The other day I shared my shoes from Kuru Footwear that I love which made me want to see what they might have for Charlie and David. This morning while David was working and Charlie was sleeping I started looking at KURU shoes for David, I immediately thought about how much time he spends on his feet which is more time than I can count.
David works long, hard shifts at the Airport but also doing honey-do jobs, for his mom, us and even our friends and family.. David does a lot of standing, a lot of walking, and he can be around slippery surfaces at work. When I saw KURU shoes designed with cushioning, support, and pain-fighting technology, I started thinking about David.
And then I started thinking about Christmas. Because this year, both of these KURU shoes are going on David’s Christmas Gift Guide / Wish List as I help Santa load the sleigh. Now, before anybody thinks I’m planning on buying two pairs of $100+ shoes for David, let me explain. We live on one income. A pair of shoes that costs over $100 is a significant purchase in our household.
So I’m looking at these as two possibilities for David’s Christmas wish list, not saying we’re automatically buying both. But there is something else I know about David. If I’m trying to help him carry something heavy, move something around the house, or do something that he thinks I shouldn’t be doing, I already know what I’m going to hear: “Go sit down. I got this.”
And then, probably a few seconds later: “Go sit down. I got this.” So if I’m going to help Santa load the sleigh this year, I think I need to make sure Santa brings the right shoes for the job. Because if David is going to be helping with that sleigh, he needs shoes that are going to help keep him on his feet. Otherwise, Rudolph may not be leading the sleigh. He might be taking David to the hospital. And nobody wants that Christmas story because we would end up on Santa’s naught list and I don’t want that Buttercup!
The first pair of shoes I’m looking at for David is the KURU QUANTUM 2 Slip-On which is $149 as much as I hate to admit it that is more than my grocery bill some weeks. KURU describes it as a slip-on walking shoe with pain-fighting technology and plush cushioning. It also features KURU’s heel-hugging technology, dual pull tabs, and a roomy toe box.
I really like the slip-on design for David because sometimes you just want to put your shoes on and go. No messing with laces. No bending over to tie and retie your shoes. Just slip them on and get moving. The QUANTUM 2 Slip-On is listed as being best for travel, all-day standing, and quick wear, which immediately made me think of David.
He does a lot of standing and he does a lot of walking. And his workdays can be long. Those are the kinds of situations where having a comfortable pair of shoes can make a big difference in how you feel at the end of the day. Which is why I’m Putting these on David’s Christmas Wish List because if he saw the price he would say nope, not having I’m going to Walmart although they did go up on his shoes so I don’t know what he is going to do.
Once again, I’m not going to pretend that spending $149 on shoes is nothing. In our house, it isn’t. We have a budget, and we have to make our money stretch. But I also have to look at what we’re already spending. We’re at Walmart at least once a month, if not more often, buying David another pair of shoes and trust me that adds and up and sometimes we don’t have the money for another pair of shoes so he has to wear what he has.
I’m not going to promise that a pair of KURU shoes will last a specific amount of time because I haven’t personally tested them on David for that long. What I can say is that when I repeatedly replace inexpensive shoes, I start wondering whether spending more on a better-designed shoe makes more sense in the long run. Especially when we’re talking about someone’s feet.
There is another pair that caught my attention specifically because of the kind of work David does. It’s designed for hardworking days, with features geared toward people who spend a lot of time standing and walking, along with traction for slippery surfaces. And that is something I don’t take lightly. David deals with slippery surfaces at work.
So when I see a shoe like Quantuim 2 that combines comfort and support with traction, I pay attention. Both pairs are going on our Christmas Gift Guide Wish List this year. That doesn’t mean we’re buying both. It means I’m doing what I always do when I’m helping Santa: I’m looking at what the people I love actually need. And David needs good shoes.
I can already picture Christmas morning. Can you? Santa is getting ready. The sleigh is loaded. The reindeer are waiting. And David is probably somewhere saying: “Go sit down. I got this.” Which is exactly why I’m going to be looking at those KURU shoes. Because if I’m going to help Santa load the sleigh, I want David standing on solid ground. I don’t need Rudolph taking him anywhere except back home. And definitely not to the hospital!
Sometimes the things we put on a Christmas wish list aren’t glamorous. They’re practical. They’re things someone will actually use. For David, a really good pair of work shoes isn’t just another pair of shoes. It’s something he can wear while he’s working hard, walking, standing, and taking care of our family. And that’s why both KURU pairs are making David’s Christmas Gift Guide Wish List this year as I help Santa load the sleigh.
If Santa happens to bring one pair, I’ll be happy. If Santa brings both, well… I might have to help him carry them to the sleigh. But I’m pretty sure David will still tell me: “Go sit down. I got this.” If Santa bring neither then I just work harder and purchase a par for David for the New Years and another pair on Valentines because he deserves them.
