Every year I sit down and think about doing a Christmas Gift Guide/ Wish List or not and more times than not the LORD surprises me with companies I never thought would work with me for one reason or another.

I have to put on my big girl panites and contant them because even if I get a no, I tried and to me that means more than anything. This is what happened when I received a press release from Kuru Footwear.

For me there are shoes I buy because they’re cute. Then there are shoes I buy because they’re inexpensive. And then there are shoes where I look at the price and think, “That’s more than I normally spend on shoes.” Those are the shoes I put on my wish list.

That’s where I was with my KURU MOMENT Ease but then the LORD reminded me to reach out to them. Because a no, doesn’t always mean no, it could just be not right now. But that wasn’t the case with Kuru Footwar.

They said they would work with us and I was over the world because these aren’t inexpensive shoes, and I don’t want to pretend that they are. There a pair of shoes I might not be able to afford even though they could help me.

In my home we have to be thoughtful about what we spend. A $100-plus pair of shoes isn’t something we casually pick up every time we need footwear. But once a year, when income tax comes in, we have traditionally tried to buy each of us a really good pair of shoes.

Why? Because we’d rather spend more on a quality pair of shoes that we hope will last for years than continually replace inexpensive shoes that don’t hold up or don’t give our feet the support they need. And that’s exactly how I’m looking at KURU.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that comfortable shoes aren’t a luxury for me. They’re important. I have one foot that has been broken several times, and my feet aren’t exactly the same size or shape. I also deal with foot discomfort when I’m walking.

And walking is something I want to be doing more of. One of my goals is to walk more every day as part of taking better care of myself and becoming healthier. But it’s hard to make walking part of your everyday routine when your feet hurt.

That’s one of the reasons I’m interested in KURU beyond this first pair. I’m already thinking ahead to next year. If these continue to perform the way I’m hoping they will, I’d like to invest in another pair of KURU shoes that I can wear throughout the year. As well as a pair for David for work and another pair of Charlie.

I want something I can reach for when I’m walking and something comfortable enough that foot pain doesn’t become the reason I stay home. Something I can expect to wear for years. That’s a much bigger investment to me than simply buying another pair of shoes.

If your like my friends and family your asking if they are worth the money. And I think the honest answer is: That depends on how long they last and how much I actually wear them. I’m not going to tell you that a $139 pair of shoes is automatically worth $139 just because they’re comfortable when you first put them on.

I’m going to keep wearing mine and I’m going to see how they hold up. I’m going to see how the suede handles everyday life. I’m going to pay attention to the soles. And I’m going to see whether these become the shoes I naturally reach for when I need to get up and go. Because if I can wear a pair of shoes for years, they’re a very different purchase than a pair I replace every few months.

One thing I’m grateful for is Charlie and I don’t wear the same size of shoes anymore because I could see him borrowing them when he takes the dogs out for a walk. Or to Sonic or QT when he wants to go get a drink.

This first pair has actually made me curious about what else KURU offers. I don’t just want a closet full of shoes. I want the right shoes. Shoes for different seasons. Shoes I can wear with different kinds of clothes. And, most importantly, shoes that make it easier for me to get up and walk.

So while I’m reviewing the MOMENT Ease now, I’m already looking toward the new year. If these continue to impress me, I would love to find a KURU style that I can wear year-round and make that my next serious shoe investment instead of the usual Skechers I buy.

For my family, spending more once in a while on something we believe will last is very different from spending more just because something has a name on it. I want the shoes to earn their place. And so far, my KURU MOMENT Ease are definitely getting my attention.

The more I wear my KURU MOMENT Ease, the more little things I notice about them, and I wanted to come back and share those details with you. Before you ask no, Charlie hasn’t tried to take them yet but he still might.

In the meantime let’s talk about how easy these shoes are to put on and take off. I can literally slide my feet into them while standing up without using my hands and go. When I come back home, I can slide them right back off. There is no wrestling with laces or struggling to get my feet into them.

That may sound like a small thing, but when you want to get out the door quickly, I really appreciate it. Plus, it makes it easier on me when my head is hurting and bending down to put on my shoes makes it worse.

I never thought I would want a pair of suede shoes but I absolutely love the black suede and one day I want to get them in brown ie toffee as well. The suede is so soft, and I think it is beautiful. They have a dressier appearance than some of the clogs I’ve seen, which is one reason I don’t feel like I’m limited to wearing them with casual clothes.

I’ve worn my KURU MOMENT Ease with jeans and with dressier clothing, and they work with both. And when they get a little something on them, I’ve been able to wipe the surface with a cloth and keep them looking nice.

That makes me happy because I want shoes I can actually wear — not shoes I’m afraid to take outside because I’m scared I’ll ruin them. The only thing I’m worried about is how they will hold up if I wear them out in the rain which I wouldn’t do initially but I live in Texas and one minute the sky is clear and the next minute it can be raining cats and dogs.

I think the details are what make these shoes stand out. There is a gold buckle on the side, and KURU is actually incorporated into the buckle. Then, on the other side, there is another little gold button with its own design.

The shoes also have double stitching along the sides, and I really like that detail. It gives them a finished, classy appearance that I don’t normally associate with a clog. And yes, I’m calling them clogs because that’s how I’ve been thinking of them.

But then Charlie looked at them and said they reminded him of Birkenstocks. That actually turned into a little #teachingmoment for me because it made me stop and think about what exactly makes a shoe a clog.

So now I’m curious: Do you call these clogs? Do you call them something else? And do you wear your clogs with socks or without socks? I’ve tried mine both ways, and I like them both ways. Although, I’m partial to socks.

The bottom of the KURU MOMENT Ease has a rubber sole with a broken-up, lined tread pattern rather than being one completely smooth piece. I think that design is part of what makes the shoes so comfortable to walk in.

But I’m going to be honest about something I haven’t completely answered yet: How are these going to do when they’re wet? That’s something I really want to find out. Which I know I touched on earlier but its Autumn ie Fall and Winter is around the corner.

In Texas weget some crazy winter weather here including rain, and I love the rubber sole, I’m not going to tell you that these are wonderful in wet weather until I’ve actually had enough experience to know. I certainly don’t want to discover that my beautiful black suede clogs turn into ice skates on a wet sidewalk! So that’s something I’m keeping an eye on as I continue wearing them.

When I first looked inside the shoes, I thought the insole looked almost like corkboard. I know that’s probably not the technical description, but that’s what it reminded me of! There is a pretty design inside, too, and the whole shoe has a very intentional feel to it.

KURU talks about its shoes being shaped around the foot, and that really caught my attention because my feet aren’t identical. One of my feet has been broken several times, and that foot doesn’t always feel like the other one.

That’s one reason I was willing to try a size 9 even though I normally wear an 8 or an 8½. The lady I was talking to when I said what size shoe I needed that KURU Shoes shoes run small, and I’m glad I paid attention to that when choosing my size.

The size 9 gives me the room I need, but my feet aren’t sliding all over inside the shoes. Until they arrived I was worried they would be too big and I would have to return them. But I didn’t but I knew to keep the box in case I had to. For me, that’s important.

Here is something that surprised my family these are becoming my everyday shoe. That’s probably the biggest thing I can tell you after actually wearing them. I’m not saving these for special occasions. I’m wearing them around the house.

I’m wearing them outside and I’m wearing them with socks. I’m wearing them without socks and I’m wearing them with jeans. I’m wearing them when I’m dressed up. And because I can just slide them on and go, I find myself reaching for them without having to think about it. That’s when I know a shoe is becoming part of my everyday life.

I’m still testing these shoe and I want to know how the suede continues to hold up. I want to see how the rubber sole performs over time and I want to know how they handle the Texas weather. And most importantly, I want to see how I feel after wearing them for a longer period of time.
