I would like to help you discover why Grapevine is called the Christmas Capital of Texas, and while doing this I will be sharing the festive downtown decorations, and the spectacular Christmas parade, family attractions, holiday shopping, budget-friendly outings and special ways to make Christmas memories with your friends and family.
For my family there is something magical about Christmas in a town that truly embraces the holiday season. The Christmas lights, decorated storefronts, Christmas music, beautifully decorated trees and families walking together enjoying everything the season has to offer is my favorite part of the year. Did you know you live in North Texas, you don’t have to travel hundreds of miles to find a little Christmas magic. You can find it right here in Grapevine, Texas!
Grapevine, Texas is known as the Christmas Capital of Texas, just like Denton, Texas is the Capital of Halloween. Grapevine goes all out for the holidays. From Historic Main Street and its beautiful Christmas decorations to the Gaylord Texan, and also the Great Wolf Lodge, Grapevine Mills Mall and family-friendly attractions, there are plenty of ways to celebrate.
But here’s something I especially want families to remember: You don’t have to spend a fortune to enjoy Christmas in Grapevine. You can walk through downtown, admire the decorations, take family selfies, enjoy the Christmas lights, pack a picnic lunch and make memories together
. If you have room in your budget for a special attraction, a picture with Santa or even a Christmas staycation, those are wonderful experiences, too! Let’s explore Christmas in Grapevine and discover how to make the most of the holiday season and yes, sometimes we will not even spend money.
Welcome to the Christmas Capital of Texas!
Grapevine has earned its reputation as one of North Texas’s favorite Christmas destinations. During the holiday season, the city comes alive with more than 1,400 Christmas events over approximately 40 days. Don’t worry I don’t expect you to do all of them because we couldn’t if we tried.
Take a stroll through the Historic Main Street which becomes a Christmas wonderland, with decorated buildings, larger-than-life holiday displays, festive entertainment and plenty of opportunities to capture family pictures. Whether you visit during the day to browse the shops or return after dark to see the Christmas lights, there is something special about experiencing Grapevine at Christmastime.
And you don’t have to do everything in one visit. Make a list of the things your family wants to see and spread your Christmas adventures throughout the season. One of my favorite ideas for enjoying Grapevine at Christmas is simply taking time to walk through Historic Main Street.
Sometimes we get so caught up in buying tickets, making reservations and planning expensive outings that we forget how much fun it can be to slow down and enjoy what’s right in front of us. Grapevine offers several wonderful Christmas displays and photo opportunities that families can enjoy while exploring downtown.
Christmas Photo Opportunities on Main Street– Here are some of the festive displays to look for during the 2026 Christmas season:
Christmas Tree Farm and Historic Log Cabins– Visit the Historic Torian and Bushong Log Cabins at 200 S. Main Street. Enjoy the historic setting, Christmas decorations, vintage wagons, sleighs and festive photo opportunities.
Toyland at Liberty Park Plaza– At 200 S. Main Street, families can enjoy larger-than-life classic toys, including a giant Rubik’s Cube and Operation game. These displays make fun backdrops for family pictures.
Candy Cane Lane– Head to 300 S. Main Street for Candy Cane Lane, featuring the Coca-Cola polar bears and festive Christmas decorations.
Town Square Gazebo– At 325 S. Main Street, look for the decorated gazebo, Christmas tree, sleigh, carriage and vintage truck.
The Singing Snowmen– Keep an ear out for the Chili Dawgs singing snowmen near West Worth and Main Street. Their shows begin at 5:30 p.m. nightly.
Grapevine’s Live Christmas Tree– Make your way to Peace Plaza at Grapevine Main Station, 815 S. Main Street, to see the towering live Christmas tree decorated for the holidays. Bring your camera, take your time and let everyone choose their favorite Christmas display. You might even make a family tradition out of taking the same picture every year!
Free Christmas Fun: Make a Day of It!– Remember not every Christmas outing needs to include an admission ticket. One of the best ways to enjoy Grapevine is to plan a family day around the decorations and community atmosphere.
Here are a few ideas:
- Walk Historic Main Street and enjoy the Christmas decorations.
- Take pictures beside the oversized Christmas displays.
- Look for your favorite Christmas tree.
- Enjoy the singing snowmen.
- Browse the decorated storefronts.
- Make a Christmas wish list while window shopping.
- Take family pictures and selfies.
- Enjoy the beautiful Christmas atmosphere without feeling obligated to purchase something at every stop.
- Pack a Picnic and Bring Your Own Christmas Treats- Here’s another idea for families trying to keep Christmas expenses under control. Bring sandwiches, snacks, bottled water and perhaps a thermos of hot chocolate. Find an appropriate public place where picnicking is permitted, take a break and enjoy spending time together.
You can even make a Christmas scavenger hunt for the children. Challenge them to find:
- A Christmas tree.
- A reindeer.
- A snowman.
- A Santa Claus.
- A giant Christmas toy.
- A decorated storefront.
- Their favorite holiday display.
Take pictures along the way and see who can find everything! The goal isn’t to rush through Grapevine checking off attractions. It’s to enjoy the time you have together.

Of course, overnight stays and special activities can add up, so check the rates and decide what fits your holiday budget. And if staying overnight isn’t possible this year, you can still plan a special outing to experience some of the Christmas magic.
Snowland at Great Wolf Lodge– Another popular Grapevine Christmas destination is Great Wolf Lodge.
Located at 100 Great Wolf Drive, Great Wolf Lodge is known for its indoor water park and family-friendly resort experience. During the Christmas season, the resort celebrates Snowland.
Families can look forward to seasonal activities such as:

Great Wolf Lodge offers families an opportunity to combine a Christmas celebration with an indoor water park getaway. If you’ve dreamed of taking your children for a Christmas overnight stay, this could be another option to consider. I want to take a moment to talk about something important. Christmas can get expensive. Between gifts, food, decorations, activities and family outings, it’s easy to feel like you need to spend more than you planned. But you don’t! You can enjoy Christmas in Grapevine in different ways depending on what your family can afford.
Here are a few ideas:
If you’re looking for a free Christmas outing:
- Walk Historic Main Street.
- Enjoy the Christmas decorations.
- Visit the free photo displays.
- Take family selfies at Grapevine Mills.
- Attend the free Carol of Lights.
- Watch the Parade of Lights.
- Enjoy the drone show.
- Pack your own lunch and snacks.
If you have a little money set aside:
- Purchase a picture with Santa.
- Enjoy an afternoon of ice skating.
- Visit the Christmas Market and purchase a special treat.
- Take the children to LEGOLAND or SEA LIFE.
- Enjoy a special Christmas activity.
If you’re planning a bigger Christmas adventure:
- Visit ICE! at the Gaylord Texan.
- Experience Snowland at Great Wolf Lodge.
- Ride Santa’s North Pole Express.
- Plan an overnight Christmas staycation.
My suggestion is to choose one or two experiences that matter most to your family. Maybe you want that special picture with Santa. Maybe your children have always wanted to ride a Christmas train. Perhaps you want to save for an overnight stay at one of Grapevine’s resorts.
Whatever you choose, decide on your budget before you go. You can even start a Christmas savings envelope and put away a little money throughout the year. And don’t feel bad if some of the bigger experiences aren’t in your budget right now. They can always become something to look forward to another Christmas. Christmas memories aren’t measured by how much money you spend.
Before heading out to enjoy Christmas in Grapevine, I want to share an important reminder. Some of these events attract enormous crowds, especially the Parade of Lights, Carol of Lights and other popular downtown celebrations. When you’re out enjoying Christmas with your children, please take a few extra precautions.
Hold those little hands!– Keep younger children close, especially when walking through crowded areas, crossing streets or standing among parade spectators.
Choose a meeting place.– Before attending an event, identify a specific meeting location in case anyone becomes separated from the group. Make sure older children know where it is and who to ask for help.
Take a picture before leaving home.– Take a quick picture of your children showing what they’re wearing that day. If you become separated, you’ll have an up-to-date picture and clothing description.
Make sure children know how to get help.– Point out event staff, police officers and other identifiable safety personnel. Teach children to stay with a trusted adult if they become separated.
Keep important phone numbers handy.– Make sure older children know your phone number. For younger children, consider keeping your contact information in a secure place they can access.
Stay together throughout the outing.– These reminders aren’t just for the parade! Whether you’re walking through Historic Main Street, visiting Grapevine Mills, taking pictures with Santa, enjoying an attraction or attending a Christmas event, keep an eye on your children.
We want to bring home beautiful Christmas memories, not spend the evening worrying about a missing little one. A little preparation can make a big difference.
Parking and Getting Around Grapevine at Christmas– With so many visitors coming to Grapevine during the holiday season, planning your parking and transportation ahead of time can make your outing easier. The city offers several parking options, including free parking areas and complimentary shuttle service.
Some locations listed for the 2026 Christmas season include:
- Grapevine Convention Center and Public Library, 1201 Municipal Way, with free parking and complimentary shuttle service.
- 307 W. Dallas Road.
- 410 W. Dallas Road.
- 636 S. Main Street.
- Additional designated public parking areas throughout Historic Grapevine.
The Grapevine Main Parking Garage at 255 E. Dallas Road offers the first 90 minutes free, with additional hourly charges. You can also consider riding TEXRail to Grapevine Main Station and walking into the Historic Main Street area.
Important: Main Street has scheduled vehicle closures during several busy holiday periods. Check the official parking and transportation information before leaving home, particularly when attending the parade or drone show.
Whether you’re coming from Fort Worth, North Richland Hills, Keller, Hurst, Watauga or somewhere else in North Texas, Grapevine is a wonderful place to add to your Christmas outing list. You can spend an afternoon walking through downtown, enjoy the decorations at Grapevine Mills, take pictures with Santa, attend the parade or plan a bigger Christmas adventure at the Gaylord Texan or Great Wolf Lodge.
You can spend a little or spend a lot. You can visit for an hour or plan an entire weekend. And if you can’t afford every attraction this year, don’t let that stop you from enjoying the Christmas season. Sometimes the best memories come from the simplest things: holding your child’s hand, sharing a picnic lunch, laughing over a silly selfie, watching Christmas lights sparkle and spending time together.
I’d love to experience a Christmas staycation at the Gaylord or Great Wolf Lodge one day. Maybe that will be a future Christmas adventure. Until then, there is plenty of Christmas magic to enjoy without having to book a hotel. So grab your camera, gather your family, make a plan and head to Grapevine! Because Christmas isn’t about how much you spend. It’s about the memories you make along the way.
From our front porch to yours, wishing you a Christmas season filled with grateful moments, happy memories and a whole lot of holiday magic!
