Why LeapFrog My First Gamer Made Me Think of Charlie

I thought I would share a story about Charlie when he was little. We spent a lot of time looking for ways to help him learn and prepare for school. At three and four years old, he wasn’t eligible for the kindergarten options we were looking at because of our family’s income and also because we didn’t speak Spanish. When he was five, his birthday fell on the wrong side of the school cutoff.

Then one day I was in the Hurst Rec to see if they had a place I could walk. I picked up there magazine and found pre-k and also kindergarten classes. David and I signed Charlie up for different classes and activities, but there were days when we couldn’t make it to the recreation center or there simply weren’t classes available.

Looking back, I can see how a toy like My First Gamer might have been helpful on those days. This would have given Charlie another way to practice early learning skills at home while keeping him entertained. Being $27.99 back then would have been a lot of money for David and I to spend but it would have been worth it for all this game would have taught Charlie.

Like a lot of children Charlie started gaming when he was young, so the idea of combining a familiar gaming-style design with preschool learning caught my attention. It is designed for little ones who are curious about the games they see older children playing, helping them feel included rather than left out. And as Charlie and I recently discovered while playing music together, sometimes the simplest activities can turn into a whole lot of fun.

One feature I particularly like is that My First Gamer is internet-free. Parents don’t have to connect it to the internet or pay for an additional online gaming service to use its built-in activities. This also means this game can be played both inside and outside and taken when running errands.

The toy also encourages self-paced exploration. Children can work through activities at their own pace, giving parents a little breathing room while their children practice new skills. And if you are a mom who has 80 other things going on, you know how valuable it can be to have an age-appropriate activity that children can explore on there own while your doing other tasks.

The variety of activities is another plus. Children can practice early academic skills, experiment with patterns and logic, enjoy music, and work through playful challenges. These experiences can complement the learning children receive at preschool or at home.

I’m not saying this is the right toy for every child because as we all know every child is different, and I believe parents should decide when and how electronics fit into their children’s lives. I would encourage families to use educational toys as one part of a balanced day that also includes reading, imaginative play, movement, and time together.

One thing I learned is LeapFrog, says My First Gamer was designed by learning experts to introduce children to the fun of educational games and playful exploration. Its activities reinforce concepts involving letters, numbers, shapes, colors, patterns, music, and logic through simple controls and playful challenges.

I appreciate that the toy combines different types of activities. Some children enjoy music, others like solving puzzles, and some are happiest when they can press buttons and see what happens next. Having several ways to explore learning may help keep little ones interested. I like how LeapFrog also shares its commitment to creating a better world for children. You can learn more about the company and explore its products at LeapFrog.com.

I wanted to let you know LeapFrog My First Gamer is designed for children ages 3–6 and requires four AA batteries. But my family had fun checking out the games. If your planning to give it as a Christmas gift, remember to check the packaging for battery-inclusion details so you can be prepared for Christmas morning. You can look for My First Gamer at Amazon, Walmart, Target, and other retailers but I plan on helping Santa load his Sleigh with these toys for every good little boy and girls and its why you will find this inside our Christmas Gift Guide/ Wish List.

Now I wanted to you let you know I would I purchase LeapFrog My First Gamer because it is a gift worth looking at for families with preschoolers who are ready for an introduction to educational gaming. What appeals to my family the most is the combination of early learning skills, music, independent exploration, and a design that makes little ones feel included when older children are playing games.

I can easily imagine how something like this might have helped Charlie practice skills at home during those days when we couldn’t get to a class or organized activity. And I can tell you that I can already see all my nieces and nephews begging to play with it! When family gets together, toys that let everyone take turns exploring activities can quickly become the center of attention.

I’ve also been wondering if David could even explore some of those typing activities himself. We might all learn something! For parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and Santa’s helpers looking for a gift that combines play and preschool learning, LeapFrog My First Gamer deserves a place in your home.

As always, I believe the best gifts are the ones that give families something meaningful to enjoy, learn, or experience together.
