As we begin a new day and I’m already tired I wanted to start the day with our What If I Was question. This morning since all of my family are Soda Pop drinks I thought I would ask ChatGPT What If I Was a Soda Pop? and see what it had to say.
Come and join me for Part A: The Immediate Family which includes David the head of the house, myself, Charlie and end with Suzzane. Then we will move on through our family in other post.
Sometimes I ask ChatGPT some pretty strange questions. Not because I need an important answer. Not because I’m trying to solve a complicated problem. Sometimes I just want to have a little fun with my family.
That’s how this series started a couple weeks ago and it was so much fun I’ve been asking it a question a day. Today, I asked ChatGPT, “If my family were soda pops, what soda would each of us be?”
Now, before you start wondering why in the world I would ask a computer what kind of soda my family would be, let me explain. One of the things I love about using ChatGPT is that sometimes it can take all the little pieces of a person—their personality, the things they love, the way they act, and the stories I’ve shared—and turn them into something completely unexpected.
So we’re going to see what happens when ChatGPT turns the Cates family into a soda aisle. We’re starting with Part A: the immediate family. And I have to tell you, some of these answers were pretty darn good. Some were so good I immediately agreed. And some made me laugh because I thought, “Well… I would have picked something completely different!” Let’s start with David.
David — ChatGPT– chose Coca-Cola for David. And honestly? I laughed because Coke is exactly what I would have picked for David, too. See before we even get started ChatGPT and I think alike.
ChatGPT said David feels like Coca-Cola because he’s classic, dependable, familiar, and the kind of person who’s going to be there when his family needs him. Coke isn’t trying to be fancy. It already knows who it is. And that feels very David.
He’s also got that combination of being a little intimidating while still being funny. I think about the old Coke commercials where Santa Claus meets the M&M characters. There’s something familiar and comforting about Coke, but there’s also a personality behind it.
Coke has been around for more than a century, and Charlie would probably tell you it’s been around since the dinosaurs roamed the face of the Earth. And it’s not going anywhere.
There are so many versions of Coke, too. There’s Classic Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero and all the other variations. Which actually gives us another way to look at David. Classic Coke is David today—with his belly hanging over a little bit. But back when he was younger and slimmer? He might have been Diet Coke. So yes, ChatGPT got this one right.
Glenda’s Thoughts: David is Coke. Classic Coke and I don’t even need to argue about this one with ChatGPT because David has been around forever and he isn’t going anywhere. Like Coke I could see him driving a truck during Christmas or meeting the M&M’s as he places presents under the Christmas Tree.
What do you think?– If you know David, what soda pop would you have picked for him?
Glenda — ChatGPT chose Dr Pepper for me.
And I have to admit… That’s pretty spot-on. ChatGPT said Dr Pepper fits me because I’m a little bit sweet, a little bit spicy, creative, complicated in the best way, and definitely not just one thing.
I’ve got a whole lot of different flavors going on at once. A blogger. A mom. I was a homeschool mom. A storyteller and a bargain hunter. A woman of faith and a wife and mom. I’m a family person.
And then there are all those crazy little everyday adventures that somehow become stories. Dr Pepper is also a little unexpected. And, well… So am I.
Glenda’s Thoughts– It’s funny that ChatGPT chose Dr Pepper for me because my dad used to say Dr Pepper tasted like prune juice. But here’s the funny part: Dr Pepper was my mom’s favorite drink.
So being a Dr Pepper actually makes me think about my parents, and I kind of like that. But if you had asked me what soda I thought I was, I probably would have chosen Fanta Grape or Fanta Orange.
Why? Because I’m the whole kitchen caboodle and more. I’m full of color. I don’t necessarily fly away like a butterfly. Buttercup, but I’m strong, but I’m also bright and colorful. And that’s me. Still, I have to admit that ChatGPT’s Dr Pepper choice makes sense.
What do you think? If you had to pick a soda pop for me, what would you choose? Would you agree with ChatGPT and say Dr Pepper? Or are you going with my Fanta Orange or Fanta Grape idea? Or something else?
Charlie — ChatGPT chose Mountain Dew for Charlie. And the first thing I thought was… Nobody in this family even drinks Mountain Dew! At least I don’t think they do. But then ChatGPT explained its reasoning.
Charlie is energetic, independent, creative, always doing something, surrounded by technology and gaming, and very much willing to go his own direction. Mountain Dew has that “I’m doing things my own way” personality.
And that part? That’s definitely Charlie. Charlie doesn’t always take the expected route. He thinks differently. He does things differently. And sometimes you just have to hang on because you have absolutely no idea what he’s going to do next.
Glenda’s Thoughts I would have picked 7UP for Charlie. Not because he drinks it. Because of the slogan: “The Un-Cola.” That is Charlie. He is unlike anyone else around him. He thinks outside the box.
He’s one of a kind. He’s kind and caring, and he doesn’t always care what you think about what he’s doing. And Charlie can keep you on your toes. One minute he’s Dr. Jekyll, and the next minute he’s Mr. Hyde.
You just never know what Charlie is going to do or say. He might decide we’re going to the store at five in the morning. Or maybe three in the afternoon. Who knows? With Charlie, you just never know. That’s why I would pick 7UP—the Un-Cola. Because Charlie is definitely the un-Charlie-of-anyone-else-I-know.
What do you think? Would Charlie be Mountain Dew? Or are you with me on 7UP—the Un-Cola? Or is there another Soda Charlie would be?
Suzzane: ChatGPT chose Strawberry Fanta for Suzanne. And once again, I understood the reasoning. Strawberry Fanta is bright, sweet, colorful, playful, and full of personality. There’s also a special strawberry connection in our family.
Strawberry was one of Charlie’s favorite drinks when he was little, and David loves anything strawberry. So I could absolutely understand why ChatGPT went in that direction for Suzanne. It said she felt like a soda that brings a little burst of happiness with it. And that part? I agree completely.
Glenda’s Thoughts– But if I’m choosing Suzanne’s soda? There’s no question. Fanta Orange. Suzanne was orange. She was a pop of sunshine. She was a ray of light on a dark day.
She smiled. She was happy. She was always on top of things. And no matter how mean somebody was to her, she didn’t let it bring her down. She’d turn around and somehow make that person her best friend.
That’s just who Suzanne was. She was sweet. She was bouncy. She was bright. She was colorful. She was sunshine. She was 100% orange. If you knew Suzanne, you knew what I mean. There really isn’t another soda I could choose for her. Suzanne was Fanta Orange. Just like Tigger.
What do you think? If you had known Suzanne, what soda would you have picked for her? Would you have chosen Strawberry Fanta like ChatGPT? Or would you have seen the same sunshine I see and picked Fanta Orange?
So What Did We Learn? Apparently, my family is a pretty colorful collection of soda pops.
ChatGPT chose:
🥤 David — Coca-Cola
🥤 Glenda — Dr Pepper
🥤 Charlie — Mountain Dew
🥤 Suzanne — Strawberry Fanta
But my choices were:
🥤 David — Coca-Cola
🥤 Glenda — Fanta Orange or Fanta Grape
🥤 Charlie — 7UP
🥤 Suzanne — Fanta Orange
And that’s what makes these “What If I Was…?” questions so much fun. There isn’t necessarily one right answer. Sometimes ChatGPT sees something in a person that I hadn’t thought about. Sometimes it picks something that makes me laugh. And sometimes it picks something that makes me say, “Yep. You nailed that one.” And then I get to tell you what I think.
But we’re only getting started. This is Part A: The Immediate Family. Next we’re going to move on to Part B, where we’ll find out what soda pops ChatGPT chooses for Gerald, Debbie, and Renee.
Then we’ll have Part C: The Fur Babies, where Bear, Phoebe, Sandy, and Gunner get their very own soda personalities. And finally, we’ll put everyone together for Part D: What Soda Pop Would the Entire Cates Family Be?
So grab your favorite soda, pull up a chair, and come back to see what happens when we turn the rest of the family into soda pops. Buttercup.. And while you’re here, tell me in the comments: What soda pop would YOU be? Because now I’m curious.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
