I thought I would ask ChatGPT what if I was a movie? The I asked ChatGPT to pick the movies that represents my friend and my family then our Furbabies. I ended the pos by asking what movie would my family be.
I know people have different opinions about ChatGPT but I like to use it for research. The answers to the questions in this series come from information ChatGPT has learned about my family.
I have a question for you. Have you ever watched a movie and suddenly thought, “That character reminds me of somebody in my family”? That is exactly where this question came from.
Comer check out the movies Chat GPT choose that represents each person in our family. In the past I’ve asked about places, cities, and other fun things, and this time I decided to ask: What if each of us were a movie?
Now, before we get started, let me explain something about these answers.
ChatGPT doesn’t actually know my family the way I do. It takes the things I’ve shared over time—the personalities, stories, interests, relationships, funny little details, and things that make each person unique—and uses those clues to make a choice.
That doesn’t mean ChatGPT is always right. Sometimes it gets something so right that it makes me laugh. Sometimes it gives me a movie I’ve never thought about in connection with that person. Sometimes I disagree completely.
And sometimes it reminds me of a movie, memory, or story that I had completely forgotten. That’s what makes this series fun. The answers don’t have to be right or wrong. They can be funny, thoughtful, sentimental, surprising, or completely off the wall.
So I decided that instead of simply telling you what ChatGPT picked, I would give you ChatGPT’s reasoning, my thoughts about the choice, and then let you decide for yourself. So grab some popcorn and a glass of Sweet Tea and join me on the porch, because we’re going to the movies.
In Part A: we will focus on David, Me, Charlie & Suzanne. Part B will be focusing on Gerald, Debbie and Renee. Part C we will feature our dogs, Bear, Pheobie, Sandy and Gunner. Then we will end the series asking what movie my entire family would be.
David: ChatGPT picked Forrest Gump because he is “steady, loyal, hardworking, and the kind of person who keeps putting one foot in front of the other no matter what life throws at him.”
And honestly? ChatGPT nailed this one. David and I watch Forrest Gump all the time. Charlie watches it with us, too, so this isn’t just a movie David happens to resemble. It’s already part of our family movie memories. That is why Life is like a box of Chocolates.
And then there’s the shrimp. David loves shrimp. He loves boats. He loves the water. So when ChatGPT picked Forrest Gump, I couldn’t help but laugh because the movie already has so many little connections to things David enjoys.
Glenda’s thoughts: The personality description is what really got me because it is David to a t because David is steady. He’s loyal. He’s hardworking. He puts one foot in front of the other and keeps going.
Even when his knees are killing him. Even when he’s completely exhausted. Even when he’s been helping around the house and is dead tired, he’ll still get up and go to work. That reminds me so much of my dad, too. David doesn’t always make a big production out of things. He just does what needs to be done. So, ChatGPT… You got David right.
If you know David, do you think Forrest Gump fits him? Or is there another movie that you think describes him better?
Then ChatGPT picked Steel Magnolias for me. And I have to admit… That one made me laugh. Because Steel Magnolias is one of my all-time favorite movies. In fact, I was already thinking about watching it again this week.
ChatGPT said: “Family, humor, strength, tears, love, and the ability to keep going even when life gets incredibly hard.” Yep. That’s me. And there’s an even deeper connection here.
A lot of what Steel Magnolias means to me comes from what happened after Suzanne passed away. That combination of family, laughter, tears, strength, grief, and learning how to keep moving forward is something I understand in a very personal way. And now, with Dolly Parton having recently passed away, this movie has taken on another layer of meaning for me.
My thoughts on why ChatGPT said they picked Steel Magnolias: This isn’t just a movie I liked. It actually described a part of my life. Sometimes you can laugh through the tears. Sometimes you cry because you love somebody so much.
Sometimes family drives you crazy. Sometimes family is exactly what gets you through. And sometimes you just keep going. That’s my Steel Magnolias.
If you’ve known me for a while, do you think Steel Magnolias fits me? Or would you have chosen something completely different?
Charlie: ChatGPT picked The Goonies. Now, I’m going to be honest. I’m not completely sure I’ve seen the whole movie. I’ve definitely seen Gremlins, and because those movies tend to live in the same part of my movie-memory brain, I probably have seen The Goonies at some point. But I’m going to have to watch it again.
ChatGPT said: “adventure, independence, figuring things out, curiosity, and determination.” And once again, I can see where ChatGPT was going with there choice.
My thoughts: Charlie is adventurous. He’s independent. He’s curious. He’s always figuring something out. And technology? Absolutely. He can look at something that would make me scratch my head and somehow figure out what it is supposed to do.
He’s also one of those people who thinks outside the box. There really isn’t anybody else quite like Charlie. He’s uniquely himself. One of a kind. Which reminds me of the Cat in the Hat.
And that reminds me of something else we’ve said about Charlie before—his curious-cat personality and the connection to Alice in Wonderland. So I haven’t officially given The Goonies my final stamp of approval yet because I need to watch it again. But I understand why ChatGPT picked it. And I’m curious to see whether Charlie agrees.

If Suzanne Were a Movie: ChatGPT picked The Notebook. I want to make sure Suzanne is included in every one of these “What If I Was…?” questions because she is still part of our family story.
ChatGPT: picked The Notebook and this one isn’t just a good choice. This one is incredibly personal. ChatGPT said: “A story about a love that doesn’t simply disappear with time.”
My thoughts: And there is a reason that movie hits me so hard. The Notebook was the very last movie Suzanne saw. I absolutely love James Garner, and I love the movie. I can watch it over and over again. And no matter how many times I watch it… I still tear up.
Because love doesn’t disappear simply because somebody isn’t physically here anymore. Suzanne hasn’t disappeared. She’s been gone for years, but she is still part of our family. She’s still part of our memories.
She’s still part of our stories. She’s still part of the things that make us laugh. And she’s still part of the things that make us cry. So when ChatGPT picked The Notebook for Suzanne, I didn’t need much convincing. This one belongs to her.
