Everyone knows Wednesday’s is the day David and I go shopping. The other day we decided to go to Winco to see if they had any Steaks on sales. I like shopping at Winco because I never know what I might find.
This is how I came home with a $5.99 Sticker that dad to come home with us because of what it said. Which turned our grocery shopping into one of those days when you go to the grocery store for groceries, and somehow the store decides to rearrange your entire life?
Well, maybe not your entire life. Buttercup… But definitely your shopping trip. David and I walked into Winco to get groceries, and apparently someone had decided it was time to change everything around. Which I knew from Charlie going a few days earlier but I had forgotten to warn David. Everything. had been moved.
I was one unhappy camper because I had to spend extra time walking up and down the aisles trying to find the things I normally know exactly where to find. And if you’ve ever been grocery shopping when a store has rearranged everything, you know what I’m talking about.
You’re looking for one thing, and suddenly you’re walking through the entire store thinking, Where did they put it? Eventually, I made my way to the register. And, as I always do, I started looking at the magazines while we waited.
That’s when I saw them. Stickers. Which I used to buy for Charlie when he was little but these stickers weren’t for children they were for adults just sitting there. Waiting for me to find them.
And one of them said: Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed. Well… of course I had to have it. The only problem was the price and deciding if I wanted to spend $5.99 for a sticker because that is the price of a Hamburger.
I told David about the sticker laughing because I know exactly what he thinks about paying $5.99 for a sticker. That is not exactly on David’s list of things we need to spend money on. But this wasn’t a tiny little sticker.
It was a big sticker with beautiful purples, oranges, and other colors that caught your eye. The letters were large enough that you could actually see the saying, and it’s waterproof. David knew if that sticker didn’t come home with us I would never stop thinking about it.
Can you guess what happened Buttercup? David bought the sticker for me and I’m trying to decide where I’m going to put it. Maybe on my front room window. Maybe outside. Maybe on my computer. Maybe on the front porch. Maybe it’ll end up on David’s truck. Who knows?
You’ll just have to watch and see what I actually do with it. I might even leave it on the paper and turn it into a piece of art. Because when you’re decorating on a budget, you learn to look at things differently. A sticker can become a decoration. A placemat can become a decoration.
You don’t always have to buy something that was specifically made to hang on a wall or sit on a shelf. Sometimes you just have to use a little imagination. And this particular saying means everything to me.
Grateful. Thankful. Blessed. Those aren’t just words I like to decorate my house with. They’re words I want to remember every single day. Because every morning when the Lord gives us another day, we have something to be grateful for.
Something to be thankful for. And another day that we are blessed to be here. I’m sure if Suzanne were still here, she would have seen that sticker and picked it up, too. Charlie understands it and for once didn’t gripe at me for bringing something new home. And even David knows it now.
In fact, they’ve gotten to where they look for things with those words on them. They’ll find something and say, “Look! Grateful, Thankful and Blessed!” And sometimes they pick it up and bring it home because they already know what it means to me.
That’s what makes me smile. They know me. They know those words. They know how much they mean to our family. And now I have a $5.99 sticker that I’m trying to decide what to do with.
But here’s the funny thing. There were several other stickers there that caught my attention, too. There was even a camper sticker that I think would make a really cute and unique stocking stuffer for David’s mom.
So… we might have to go back to Winco because I like to shop year round and if I find a Gift I like to purchase it because at Christmas my shopping is done and I can enjoy the Holiday instead of shopping.
I’m sure David is going to be thrilled when he hears that we’re going back for more $5.99 stickers. But honestly, I think this whole thing was a Lord moment. Or as Oprah would say a Godwnk.
Think about it. We went into Winco for groceries. They had rearranged the store, so I had to spend extra time wandering around looking for everything. Which was another Godsend because I got extra steps in.
Then I ended up at the register doing something I always do—looking through the magazines. And there, sitting right in front of me, were the stickers. I didn’t go looking for them. I didn’t know they were there.
But somehow, on that particular day, I was in exactly the right place to find them. And I don’t believe that was an accident. Sometimes the Lord speaks to us in big ways. And sometimes He puts a $5.99 sticker in our path.
Maybe I didn’t need another decoration. Maybe we didn’t need to spend the money. But I needed the reminder. Grateful. Thankful. Blessed. And sometimes that’s exactly what a Lord moment looks like. A grocery trip. A rearranged store. A few magazines at the register. And a sticker waiting for me to find it. I’d say that’s worth $5.99. Wouldn’t you?
Has this ever happened to you?
Grateful, Thankful, Blessed.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
