I remember when I was younger watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show on TV and never dreaming I would see it in a Theater because some of the content was embarrassing to me and I didn’t feel comfortable watching it in mixed company but once again the LORD hadn’t other plans for me. I went to the show with David and my step-son Travis.
But before I share my thoughts with you. I have question for you. Have you ever gone somewhere with your family and ended up with a story you still laugh about years later? Well, I have one for you! And now I’m thinking it might be time to make some more memories with Charlie, Bradley, and David.
The Ridglea Theater in Fort Worth is hosting The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Saturday, October 17, featuring Los Bastardos. When I saw the event, it brought back a memory from years ago when we took my stepson, Travis, to see the movie for his 19th birthday. With Charlie turning 19 in December I thought it would be fun to take Charlie and Bradley as a early Birthday present for them.
When I let David know I wanted to take Travis to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show back in the day he reminded me he had seen it on the Stage years before. David knew what was going to happen and all about the props and things people used but Travis and I had no, clue what we was getting ourselves into.
David didn’t warn us about the audience participation or what happened to people who had never seen the movie before. When standing in line they asked who hadn’t seen the movie before. David pointed at Travis, and said he hadn’t. They walked up to Travis and put a V on his head to show he was a virgin.
Travis didn’t want to be the only one with a V on his head so he pointed at me and said she hasn’t seen the show either and I ended up with the v on my forehead as well.. So there I was, walking around with a V on my forehead right alongside him. David knew what was coming and never said a word! I’m still laughing about it.
Now it’s time for Charlie and Bradley to have their turn. Charlie will be turning 19 in December, and I think it would be fun to take the family to see the show together and make some new memories. You can bet if they ask who hasn’t been to the show that I will be letting them know Bradley and Charlie haven’t been so they can be labeled virgins because what goes around comes around.
Another reason we’d love to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show again is that Meat Loaf, who played Eddie in the movie, was one of our favorite performers. He passed away in 2022, and revisiting a movie featuring someone whose work we enjoyed is one way to remember the talent and entertainment he shared with the world.
Especially when we’ve also lost Tim Curry, who played Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Reports published August 26, 2026, say he died at age 80 on August 25. For me he was my favorite character in the entire movie and the whole reason I want to take Charlie to this event.
For my family movies are about more than the stories we see on a screen. They bring together actors, musicians, singers, writers, and other creative people who leave their mark on entertainment. Sometimes a movie or song stays with us for years, and we find ourselves remembering the people who made it special.
This also brings me back to our homeschooling years with Charlie. I have always believed that learning doesn’t happen only when we’re sitting down with a textbook. Entertainment, music, musicians, actors, and authors all have a place in our lives. We can learn about the people behind a movie, the music that became part of popular culture, the performers who brought characters to life, and the history surrounding a film. That was one of the things I wanted Charlie to understand as he grew up. Learning can happen in all sorts of ways, including through movies, music, books, and the things we enjoy together as a family.
I’ve watched The Rocky Horror Picture Show on television many times over the years. Even when Charlie was younger, there were a couple of times when he watched it with me. I don’t believe in hiding everything from my son just because something might be different from what another family chooses to watch. If there’s a classic movie I enjoy and want to share with Charlie, I want to be able to sit down with him and enjoy it together.
Now, I understand that not every parent will agree with my choices. Some parents may not want to watch this particular movie with their children, and that’s their decision. I’m not here to tell anyone else how to raise their family. Each and every one of us is different, and how we raise our children is our own choice. What works for one family might not work for another, and that’s okay.
For our family, sharing movies, trying new experiences, and making memories together have always been important. Charlie and Bradley are adults now, so this could be an opportunity for all of us to enjoy an unusual night out together. And who knows? Maybe this time David will have to explain a few things before we walk through those theater doors!
If you’ve never experienced The Rocky Horror Picture Show in a theater, this event offers more than an ordinary movie screening. The Ridglea Theater is hosting a showing featuring Los Bastardos, a shadow cast that performs alongside the film. Audience participation is part of the experience, and attendees can get ready for the Time Warp sing-along. Costumes are encouraged, and optional prop packs are available for $7 before the show. The event also advertises limited VIP tables and a lingerie contest.
This is an adult-oriented event, so it’s important to know what to expect before purchasing tickets.

As I work on our interactive Halloween gift guide and our Christmas Gift Guide/ Wish List, I want to share experiences that give people something different to consider when making plans. Not every activity will appeal to every reader, and that’s perfectly fine. The idea is to share information so people can decide what suits them and their families.
For us, going back to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show would bring together an old family memory, our appreciation for the performers, and the chance to create new memories with Charlie and Bradley.
I still remember that V on my forehead from all those years ago. Now I’m thinking it might be time for another trip to the theater, another round of the Time Warp, and another story to tell from our family’s adventures. And this time, we can’t say we didn’t know what was coming!
As Santa loads the Sleigh this year this event will have passed so I will not be asking him to get tickets for our family but I wanted to remind you sometimes the best gifts aren’t things you wrap. They’re the experiences that give you a story to tell long after the day is over. And around here, we certainly have a few of those stories to share.
