Charlie and I was in Dollar Tree the other day walking around and I stopped to look at the Halloween Decorations because it used to be one of my families favorite #Holidays. As time has moved on, and Charlie has grown up.
Charlie has now decided that Halloween isn’t a holiday he feels comfortable celebrating, and I know there are other families and individuals who feel the same way. Which is why we’ve added our Fa;/ Harvest Gift Guide this year alongside our Interactive Christmas and Interactive Halloween Gift Guide.
So when we talk about face painting, I want you to remember that it doesn’t always have to be about Halloween. The same idea can be used for fall, Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays, school activities, family game nights, or just a fun afternoon at home.
But since we’re working our way through our Interactive Halloween Guide, we wanted to give you another fun family activity to try together. Today, we’re going to make our own face paint and then use it to create something fun!
Make Your Own Face Paint
What You’ll Need
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- ½ teaspoon water
- ½ teaspoon face lotion
- Food coloring
- Small bowls or cups
- Cotton swabs or a small clean paintbrush
Let’s Make It
1. Mix it up.– Combine the cornstarch, water, and face lotion in a small bowl.
2. Stir until smooth.– You want the mixture to have a paint-like consistency.
3. Add your color– Add a tiny amount of food coloring and mix well. Divide the mixture into several small bowls if you’d like to make different colors.
Try:
🟠 Orange for pumpkins
⚫ Black for cats, spiders, or bats
⚪ White for ghosts
🟢 Green for leaves or silly monsters
🟣 Purple for something completely your own
You could paint:
- A pumpkin
- A spider
- A black cat
- A friendly ghost
- A bat
- Leaves and fall designs
- Your own silly monster
And remember, you don’t have to make it Halloween-themed at all. Change the colors and make a fall design. Save the idea for Christmas and make snowflakes, candy canes, or Christmas trees. There are so many possibilities!
A Quick Safety Reminder– Have an adult check the ingredients and test a small amount on the skin before using homemade face paint. Keep it away from the eyes, mouth, and broken or irritated skin. Stop using it if irritation occurs.
Today’s Interactive Halloween Tickets
We’re keeping our ticket challenge simple. Complete the Activity = 1 Ticket. Make your face paint and create a design with it. Show your finished creation to a parent or another adult to earn your ticket. Then if you read for 10 Minutes you will earn 1 More Ticket
After your activity, pick up something you enjoy reading and read for at least 10 minutes. It can be a Halloween book, a mystery book, a comic book, chapter book, magazine, or whatever you’re currently enjoying.
Activity = 1 ticket 10 minutes of reading = 1 ticket That means you can earn 2 tickets from today’s post!
Creating the Paint doesn’t have to be something the kids do alone. Mom can make a pumpkin. Dad can make a monster. Grandma can create a fall leaf. Siblings can paint designs for each other. The point isn’t to create perfect face paint.
The point is to spend time together, get creative, and make a Greatful Moment. And if Halloween isn’t something your family celebrates, that’s okay too. Take this same activity and make it your own for fall, Christmas, or another family day you’re comfortable celebrating.
