Have you ever woke up with a song stuck in your head and you find yourself singing it out loud? This week I’ve woken up with 9 to 5 song stuck in my head for the last couple of days. If you said the first few words, I could probably start singing right along with you — and we’d probably be laughing before we even got through it!
So with September 25 being Dolly Parton Day, I started wondering: Or what they are calling 9-2-5 Day . I thought we would take a look around and discover what Dallas-Fort Worth doing to celebrate Dolly? And, of course, I went down a few rabbit holes. Okay… Maybe more than a few.
If you’re wanting to get out and celebrate, there are Dolly-themed things happening around Dallas-Fort Worth. Including celebrations at the Truck Yard, and around Fort Worth, and even in Denton and also things happening around the Fort Worth Stockyards.
There are also Dolly-themed paint-and-sip events and other celebrations. And somebody has to be creating a Dolly drink or snack somewhere around here. I mean, come on! If you’re going to celebrate Dolly, there needs to be something pink, sparkly and probably a little over-the-top involved. And if you find a Dolly-inspired drink or snack, tell me about it! Better than that let’s go try it.
Then I had another thought. Heck, I might just host my own Dolly Parton Day right here at home! Would you want to come join me? I have plenty of Dolly signs. I can go buy us a CD or two.
I can find a movie or two.
We can listen to Dolly.
We can watch Dolly.
We can laugh.
We can sing.
We can talk.
And yes, I actually work 9 to 5, so I think I’m qualified to celebrate! 😂
So here’s my question:

Would you cook one of her recipes?
Listen to her music all day?
Watch one of her movies?
Find a Dolly mural?
Head to the Stockyards?
Go to a paint-and-sip?
Or would you turn your living room into your own little Dolly celebration?
Johnny Paycheck Had Something to Say, Too
And then there’s Johnny Paycheck.
He gave us “Take This Job and Shove It.”
And I can just picture him standing there saying it while Dolly is right beside him with her big hair and rhinestones, laughing and thinking, I understand exactly what you’re saying! 😂
Most of us know the 9-to-5 life.
We work.
We come home.
We do it again.
But I don’t think we’re supposed to live our whole lives that way.
We need music.
We need laughter.
We need family.
We need friends.
We need movies.
We need good food.
We need a little fun.
And sometimes we just need Dolly Parton.
How Could I Forget Urban Cowboy?
Now here’s where I really have to laugh at myself.
How could I forget my favorite movie — Urban Cowboy?
If you’re a true Dolly fan — or a true country-western fan — you’ve probably seen this movie more than once.
John Travolta played Bud.
Debra Winger played Sissy.
And if you’ve known me for very long, you know that John Travolta was supposed to be my husband someday.
He’s just taking his time getting around to it. 😂
And there’s a Dolly connection in Urban Cowboy, too!
Remember the Dolly Parton contest?
Corinne, Bud’s aunt, dressed up as Dolly.
So naturally, if I’m hosting Dolly Parton Day at my house, Urban Cowboy is going on the television.
Big hair.
Country music.
Dolly.
John Travolta.
What more could a girl want?
And Then Dolly Saddled Up With Rocky
And who remembers when Dolly Parton saddled up next to Sylvester Stallone?
Yep.
Rhinestone.
Dolly and Rocky.
Together.
In a movie.
😂
And if you’ve seen it, please tell me you remember “Drinkin’stein.”
That song alone deserves its own Dolly Day conversation.
So now we’ve got:
Dolly.
Big hair.
Rhinestones.
John Travolta.
Urban Cowboy.
Sylvester Stallone.
Rhinestone.
And “Drinkin’stein.”
At this point, we might as well have a party!
Go Find a Dolly Mural
If you want to make your own Dolly Day adventure, go find a Dolly mural.
Take a picture.
Put Dolly on the radio while you’re driving.
Find a Dolly-themed event.
Grab a Dolly-inspired drink.
Put on one of her movies.
Or simply sit at home and listen to your favorite Dolly songs.
You don’t have to spend a fortune to celebrate.
Sometimes all you need is a little music, a little laughter and somebody fun to share it with.
Be Like Dolly
And here’s what I really want us to remember.
Be like Dolly.
Share a little kindness.
Not just today.
Not just on Dolly Parton Day.
Every day.
You never know what somebody else is going through.
A kind word can make somebody smile.
A little encouragement can change someone’s day.
And sometimes simply sitting beside someone and listening is enough.
That’s something all of us can do.
Now, Who Wants to Come Over?
I’m going to go listen to a little “9 to 5.”
And heck, I might even watch The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
