Welcome to Monday morning, Buttercup. We made it through #Haloween which I am grateful for and were moving in Thanksgiving and Christmas and Charlie’s Birthday and he will be turning 19 which I can’t wait to celebrate with Charlie. My Birthday is on Wednesday and I’m excited Charlie will be home to celebrate with me.
For those of you who don’t know, Charlie decided to make his first road trip on his own last Friday to spend Halloween in Hobart, Oklahoma, to spend some time with Mikalyia and her family for Halloween. Was this something I wanted Charlie to do after they broke up no, but its what he thought he needed to do so we let him go.
I was so proud of the young man he’s becoming because in the past this isn’t something Charlie would have done on his own. He would have wanted David to take him and yes, David would have because that’s what a dad does.. But watching him get into that car when it was raining and misty certainly scared this momma’s heart.
Thankfully, he called every time he said he would along the way. He checked in, was responsible, and made it there safely. He had a good time, too! Even though there was a tad bit of car problems the LORD was watching over him every step of the way and for that I am grateful, thankful and blessed.
Then, the other night, Charlie texted and said, “Mom, I can’t wait to be home. I’m so ready to be home.” And truthfully, Charlie, I’m ready for you to be home, too! We may have our disagreements like any parent and child, but when your child is gone, you miss them more than you sometimes realize. Especially when there your best friend and your ride or die like Charlie is.
I woke up this morning thinking about how he’d be getting on the road around 3 a.m. and should be home sometime around 8 or 9. I was already looking forward to having a cup of coffee together before he went to bed. But the weather is supposed to be stormy, so he’s decided to stay one more day.
Was that what this momma wanted to hear? Absolutely not! But am I grateful he’s making a responsible decision and taking care of himself? Absolutely! It might not be what my momma heart wanted, but I would much rather have him stay somewhere safe than worry about him being on the road in bad weather.
And then there’s another reason I’m feeling especially blessed today.
David has also volunteered to take his day off and drive to Wichita Falls to meet Charlie. With rain expected off and on, he’s willing to make that couple-of-hours drive, meet our son, and follow him home safely, even though he has to work the next day. To me, that’s what a father’s love looks like. Its what my dad would have done for me and I’m grateful David is willing to do it for our son.
For my family it isn’t always about spending thousands and thousands of dollars on your children. Sometimes it’s taking your day off, driving those extra miles, and making sure your son gets home safely from his very first road trip. And for that, I’m especially grateful, thankful, and blessed to have David.
Please keep our family in your prayers as we continue navigating these changes. Watching our children grow up is a blessing, but learning to let them spread their wings isn’t always easy. I hope you have a beautiful and blessed week! We’re just a couple of days into November, and Thanksgiving will be here before we know it.
I’d love for you to come sit on my digital front porch and share your Thanksgiving plans with me. What are you looking forward to this year? I’ll have some new content going up on the blog today, Lord willing. I’m also praying that some new clients will reach out to us. And if they don’t, I know the Lord has a plan for that, too.
Today, I’m placing everything in His hands as I begin my work. May we all remember to be grateful, thankful, and blessed for the little things, the big things, and especially the people who show us love in ways we sometimes take for granted. And Lord, please keep Sandy out of my stuff today! I ask all these things in Jesus’ name. Amen. ❤️
A Little Scripture to Carry With Us Today
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
— Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV)
I’d Love to Hear From You!
Have you ever watched your child take a big step toward independence and found yourself celebrating and worrying at the same time? I’d love for you to share your story with me. Sometimes the greatest blessing isn’t keeping our children close. It’s knowing they’re growing into the people God created them to be, while knowing they can always find their way home.
A Mother’s Heart,
A Father’s Love
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV)
When We Let Our Children Spread Their Wings
Watching our children grow up is one of life’s greatest blessings. But sometimes letting go is harder than we ever imagined. We celebrate their independence, pray for their safety, and trust God to guide every mile of their journey.
Today, I Am Grateful For…
A Prayer For Our Families
Dear Lord, please watch over our children wherever life takes them. Give them wisdom, guide their decisions, protect their travels, and remind them that they always have a place to call home. Help us as parents trust Your plans and cherish every moment. Amen.
