I never thought I would say this, but I have a pair of combat boots — and I actually love them! Now, I can be a bad ass like #RosietheRiveter. When I had the opportunity to try these black lace-up combat boots from DREAM PAIRS Women’s Lace-Up Combat Ankle Boots, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve always been a little hesitant about boots that are too tall or difficult to get on and off. I wondered if they would be too tight around my leg, too big, or just uncomfortable. But these boots surprised me.
My feet are funny sometimes they swell because I broke my foot in the past and that means one feet is bigger than the other foot at time. I picked a size 8½, ev en though I can wear a 8 on a good day and they fit me to a T. I didn’t need a 9 like I thought I would and that made me feel good.
I like that there is a zipper on the inside of the boot which I can upzip and slide my foot right into. Then when there on they fit just right, and I was able to move my feet into them easily. The cushioned insole and roomy toe area make them comfortable, too. The shoes went right over the socks I had on and I still had room which is a Godsend because my feet stay cold most of the time.
The boots have both laces and a zipper, so you can adjust the laces for the fit you want, but you don’t have to sit there and untie and retie your boots every time you put them on. Just zip them up and go. Saving me time and allowing me to wear them when my hands aren’t working right and I’m not able to tie my shoes. They also have a little pull tab on the back that makes getting them on even easier.
I was very worried that as big as my leg/ calf was that the shoes wouldn’t go over them but the leg opening went around my leg perfectly making me feel like I could conquer the world. The zipper moved easily, and I had no trouble getting them zipped all the way up which eve surprised David and Charlie. That’s a big deal for me because there’s nothing worse than buying a pair of boots you love only to discover that you can’t comfortably get them on.
I really like the bottom of these boots. The lugged sole has little designs and X-shaped patterns across the bottom that give the boots a substantial tread. DREAM PAIRS describes the outsole as a non-slip TPR sole designed to provide grip on mud, snow and uneven terrain.
I haven’t taken these boots out hiking through the mountains, but I like having that extra tread underneath my feet for everyday walking and outdoor adventures. The platform is about 1.7 inches, and the boot itself is about 5 inches high. They have that sturdy combat-boot appearance without feeling like you’re walking around in heavy work boots.
Another thing I wasn’t expecting was how well the boots look with both casuel and dressy clothes for a nite out on the Town. They’re black, so you can wear them with jeans and a casual outfit, but they also look surprisingly good with dressier clothes. I would like to have a second pair in white.
You can wear them with:
- Jeans
- Leggings
- Casual pants
- Skirts
- Dresses
- Dressier outfits
- Your everyday winter and spring clothes
I especially like the double stitching on the sides. It gives them a little extra detail without making them look overly fancy. And the zippers are easy to move up and down. I’m just going to say it. They make you look like a badass. And I don’t care if you’re not actually a badass — these boots make you look like one! I never thought I’d be the person wearing combat boots, but here I am. And honestly? I kind of love it.
There’s actually a reason these boots mean a little more to me than just being another pair of shoes. When I was growing up, my grandfather bought me a pair of work boots. They had that same kind of sturdy look, and they reminded me a little of the boots Charlie had when he was younger. I wore those work boots everywhere.
My parents had thought I wouldn’t wear them and didn’t really want to buy them for me, but they became my absolute favorite shoes. When I had the opportunity to try a pair of black combat boots from DREAM PAIRS, it brought back some of those memories. Maybe that’s part of why I like them so much.
They’re practical, they’re comfortable, and they remind me of a pair of boots I loved when I was younger. DREAM PAIRS has some other shoes I’d love to try, too. Their fuzzy shoes would be perfect for wearing around the house when I’m running back and forth to the mailbox.
But these combat boots? These are going to be wonderful when I help Santa load the sleigh this year! I’m already picturing myself putting them on and getting to work. And if you’re looking for them for someone on your Christmas shopping list, you’ll find my DREAM PAIRS combat boots in our Greatful Moments Christmas Gift Guide Wish List. Because sometimes the best gifts are the ones you didn’t even know you needed until you put them on.
Would I Recommend Them? For $39 a pair, I think these are an economical way to add a pair of combat-style boots to your closet without spending a fortune so you can bet your bottom dollar I will be telling everyone I know about them and all the other amazing shoes they have.
I chose the black pair, and now I’m already thinking about trying a white pair for winter. If you’ve never tried combat boots because you were worried they would be difficult to get on and off, too tall, or uncomfortable, these are worth checking out. The side zipper makes them easy to wear, the laces let you adjust the fit, the pull tab helps you get them on, and the tread gives them that sturdy outdoor look. And, as someone who never thought combat boots would be my thing, I have to admit: DREAM PAIRS may have converted me.
