I don’t know about you but this morning I woke up tireder than when I went to bed last night. Charlie said he is as well. Along with David who said he hasn’t slept good the past couple days. All I can about today is its one of those days.
You know the kind. You wake up knowing there are a million things that need to be done, and somehow the day keeps moving while the things on your list don’t. It’s 1:38 in the afternoon as I’m writing this, and I’m looking around my house thinking, What have I actually accomplished today?
The kitchen is a hot mess. There are chicken fried steaks sitting out for dinner. And God only knows if those chicken fried steaks are actually going to get cooked tonight. There are posts I need to write. Emails I need to get through. Things on my list that I wanted to accomplish.
And yet, here I am. Sitting here looking at my cup that says “Live Life in Full Bloom” and wondering if I’m actually doing that today. I don’t know. Maybe not. Mabey so. Although what I do know is today I’m having a down day.
I’m not feeling very good, and I’m frustrated. I’m frustrated because things aren’t getting done. I’m frustrated because sometimes it feels like I’m the one carrying too much. I’m frustrated because I want to get everything accomplished, and sometimes my body, my mind, or life itself simply says, not today.
And you know what? Maybe that’s okay. Today David called me. It wasn’t even that late. It was only around 12:30. He was frustrated, too, and I could hear the stress in his voice. I told him to go ahead and come home.
Yes, that means he’ll be about two hours short on his check. But you know what? Sometimes that happens. Sometimes two hours of pay isn’t worth pushing yourself past your limit. Besides that I know the LORD who helps the one’s who help themselves and that is David so I’m placing those 2 hours in the LORDS hands.
Sometimes you need to come home. Sometimes your wife needs you. And sometimes you just need to be home. Tomorrow, David and I are going to go through my room. We’re going to get rid of a bunch of stuff. And honestly, I think that is going to help me.
Sometimes clutter isn’t just clutter. Sometimes you look around at a room full of things and it feels like your brain is full of things, too. Too much stuff. Too many decisions. Too many things you’ve been meaning to get around to. Too many memories. Too many things you don’t need anymore but haven’t figured out how to let go of.
So tomorrow, we’re going to tackle some of it. And then David asked me to go to breakfast. Just me and him. Nobody else. Now, let’s be honest. He may sit there and be on his phone half the time. That’s David. But he asked me. And that matters.
We were supposed to go to Pancho’s tomorrow with my best friend Debbie. But life happens. The little boy Austin whose mother Debbie watches was rushed to the hospital after she began bleeding profusely. They don’t know yet exactly what happened, and I know Debbie’s mind is going to be with them.
Then there is her pastor, who is fighting cancer. There are so many people carrying things right now. I’ll check on Debbie later when I call to check on Angie this evening. Before you ask yes, I know Angie. She’s one of Debbie’s honory grandsons moms, and that little boy is just adorable.
And then there is family on David’s side. His brother Mike found a job. Thank God. It’s in Ponder, which is farther than he wanted to drive, but he’s driving trucks, and it gives him a job and gets him out of Mom’s house for a while.
That will give Mom a little peace and quiet, too. But I also worry about her. She’s already had so much to deal with, and now I wonder how she will do being home more by herself without Pa or Mike there. I hope she doesn’t sink into a deep depression.
So tonight, I’ll pray for her.
I’ll pray for Debbie. I’ll pray for that Austin’s family. I’ll pray for her pastor. I’ll pray for David. ‘ll pray for Charlie. I will Pray for my sister and brother and my friends and family. And I’ll pray for myself. Because sometimes we forget to pray for ourselves.
We spend so much time worrying about everybody else that we forget that we’re carrying things, too. And today I’m carrying a little more than usual. So I’ve decided something. I’m going to take some time for myself.
I’m going to get my glass of tea. I’m going to check on David. I’m going to try to do some Swagbucks. I’m going to work on what I can work on. And I’m going to stop stressing about what I can’t finish today. I have nine posts I want to get done. Maybe I will. Maybe I won’t. And you know what?
That’s okay. This is my site. These are my stories. These are my GreatfulMoments. Things get done my way. Not someone else’s way. Not according to some imaginary clock that says I have failed if everything isn’t checked off the list by a certain hour.
Sometimes life gets in the way. Sometimes family comes first. Sometimes your husband calls and says he’s coming home early. Sometimes your best friend’s plans change because someone she loves is in the hospital.
Sometimes a brother finds a job and you thank God for that blessing while simultaneously worrying about what the change means for your mother-in-law. Sometimes your kitchen is a disaster and dinner is still sitting on the counter at almost two o’clock.
And sometimes you simply don’t feel good. That’s life. And that’s when I have to remember my little engine that could. I’m not going to promise myself that I can climb every mountain today. I’m just going to put one foot in front of the other.
One thing. Then another. Then another. Maybe I’ll get the kitchen cleaned. Maybe I’ll cook dinner. Maybe I’ll write another post. Maybe I’ll get through some emails. Maybe I’ll do some Swagbucks. Maybe I’ll just sit for a while and breathe. Or I might take a nap.
Whatever happens, I’m going to keep moving forward. And most importantly, I’m going to trust God. Because I don’t have to know how everything is going to work out. I don’t have to fix everybody’s problems. I don’t have to finish everything today. I just need to take the next step.
One foot in front of the other. That’s enough for today. And tomorrow? Tomorrow we’ll get up and try again.
Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed.
