What If I Was a Season?

I’ve been having so much fun asking ChatGPT what if I was questions and seeing what it would choose for my family that I decided to keep it going If you haven’t been following along our “What If I Was…?” series has been about looking at the people, memories, and little pieces of our lives in a different way.

We’ve already asked questions that made us stop and think about who we are including what type of flower would I be and what song would I be or what color would I be and more times than not ChatGPT has chosen items that fit my family to a T.

Today, I decided to ask ChatGPT another question: “If each person in my family were a season, what season would they be?” Not their favorite season. Not the season they were born in. But “what if they were a season”.

I asked ChatGPT to look at what it already knows about each of us—the personalities, the memories, the relationships, the things that make each person special—and choose a season.

And since our family includes more than just people, I decided our four-legged family members needed to be included, too because they aren’t just dogs but family. So let’s see what ChatGPT said.

If Glenda Were a SeasonChatGPT says Glenda would be spring. I could see why they chose Spring for me couldn’t you? ChatGPT says Spring feels like a good fit because Glenda is always looking for something new to grow.

Whether it’s a new story for the blog, a new series, a family memory, a project, a garden, or another way to bring people together, there always seems to be something growing. And spring isn’t just about flowers.

It’s about second chances. It’s about beginning again. It’s about looking at something that may have been sitting quietly for a while and saying, “Let’s see what we can do with this.” That feels very much like Glenda.

Even when life has brought difficult seasons, she keeps looking for something to be grateful for, something to remember, something to create, or someone to encourage. So if Glenda were a season, ChatGPT says: Spring—because she keeps finding ways to bloom.

If you remember from the beginning of the year I chose BLOOM as my word of the year so I know the LORD helped me pick out that word and I’m so glad he did because its been showing up in new ways each and everyday.

If Charlie Were a SeasonChatGPT says Charlie would be summer. I agree with this as well because when Charlie was little Summer is when he would flourish the most from being outside from Sunup to Sundown.

There is a sense of energy and creativity about Charlie that feels like summer. Summer is when you have room to explore. You can stay outside longer. You can try something different. You can imagine an adventure and then figure out how to make it happen.

Charlie has grown up, but that creativity is still there. He has his gaming, streaming, photography, and the things he creates, and he has always had his own way of looking at things.

Summer also represents possibility. There are so many days ahead that you don’t know what they will bring. And that seems fitting for Charlie. He’s still building his story. So if Charlie were a season: Summer—creative, energetic, adventurous, and always looking toward the next thing. David and I agree with ChatGPT choice and so did Charlie. Do you think they got Charlie right?

If David Were a SeasonChatGPT says David would be winter. That is funny because David hates Winter and snow and being cold and even ChatGPT said that might sound surprising at first. But winter isn’t simply cold.

Winter can represent strength, quiet, dependability, and the ability to keep going when things aren’t easy. After hearing this I can see why ChatGPT chose Winter for David can’t you?

David is someone who works hard and does what needs to be done. There is something steady about that. Winter doesn’t need to announce itself. It simply arrives and does what winter does. And underneath that quiet winter ground, life is still happening.

That is what makes this season fit David. There is strength there, but it isn’t always loud. There is also warmth in the middle of the quiet—the kind of warmth you find in family, home, and the people you love. So if David were a season: Winter—a quiet strength you can depend on.

If Suzanne were a season, ChatGPT said she would be Autumn because there is something about Autumn that reminds me of Suzanne from t beautiful colors, the changing leaves, the warmth of the memories, and that quiet feeling of holding onto something precious.

Suzanne’s life was much too short, but the love and memories she left behind never disappeared. Like autumn leaves, those memories may change with time, but they are still beautiful and still a part of our family story.

Suzanne would be the kind of autumn afternoon that makes you stop, look around, and remember someone you love. Suzanne would be Autumn—the season of memories, beauty, and love that remains. Which is so Suzzane.

If Gerald Were a SeasonChatGPT says Gerald would be fall. Fall is different and Gerald is as well. It doesn’t try to be spring. It doesn’t try to hold onto summer. Fall knows what it is. The colors are bold. The leaves change. There is character everywhere you look.

And Gerald has that same sense of individuality. He has his own interests, his own way of doing things, and his own story. Fall also represents transition and that is where Gerald is at the moment.

It reminds us that people can change directions and still remain themselves. Sometimes life takes us somewhere we never expected to go. Sometimes we start a new chapter later than we imagined. And sometimes we simply find ourselves in a different season of life. So if Gerald were a season: Fall—independent, distinctive, colorful, and comfortable being himself.

If Debbie Were a SeasonChatGPT says Debbie would be spring. There is something about spring that reminds me of the youngest person in the family. Spring can be sweet. It can also be unpredictable.

One day everything is warm and beautiful, and the next day you aren’t quite sure what the weather is doing. And honestly, that can be family, too. Debbie has her sweet side, her complicated side, and all the layers that come with being a person who has grown up inside a family with a lot of history.

Spring is also a season of becoming. You don’t look at a tiny plant and expect it to already be a full-grown tree. You watch it grow. You give it room. You see what it becomes. So if Debbie were a season: Spring—sweet, layered, growing, and sometimes just a little unpredictable and that part is more true than you will ever know.

If Renee Were a SeasonChatGPT says Renee would be fall. Fall is a season filled with many different pieces that somehow work together. Different colors. Different leaves. Different textures. And when you put them all together, you get something beautiful.

That reminds me of Renee and the work we do together. There are always many pieces moving at once. Ideas. Stories. Projects. Plans. Things that need fixing. Things that need to be finished. And somehow those pieces come together.

Fall also knows how to adapt. It doesn’t fight the change of seasons. It becomes something different. That feels like Renee. So if Renee were a season: Fall—adaptable, creative, full of different pieces that come together to make something special and that is what Rene is.

If Phoebe Were a SeasonChatGPT says Phoebe would be summer. But if you asked me she could be Winter to because when she gets made at me she can become one cold B..ch but that is why she is so loveable.

Phoebe brings energy which is true. She has that little spark that makes you notice her. Summer can be bright, cheerful, playful, and full of movement. That’s Phoebe. She’s the kind of personality that doesn’t need to take up the whole room to make her presence known.

Sometimes the smallest things bring the biggest smiles. And summer is full of those little moments. A sunny afternoon. A little bit of silliness. Something unexpected happening. A reason to laugh. So if Phoebe were a season: Summer—bright, energetic, playful, and impossible not to notice.

If Sandy Were a SeasonChatGPT says Sandy would be spring. And this one makes perfect sense. Sandy is still learning. She’s still figuring things out. She’s still discovering what it means to be part of the family.

She can be stubborn. She can bark. Man oh, man can she bark and bark and bark. She can definitely let everyone know what she thinks. But she is also growing. That’s what makes spring such a good fit for her.

Spring is messy sometimes. The flowers don’t all bloom perfectly. The weather doesn’t always cooperate. Things are still taking shape. But you can see the promise underneath it all.

Sandy came into our family as a rescue puppy, and now she’s becoming part of our everyday story. So if Sandy were a season: Spring—still growing, still learning, a little stubborn, and full of possibilities so yes, she is Spring.

If Bear Were a SeasonChatGPT says Bear would be winter. There is something comforting about winter when you think of it as a season of home. Blankets. Quiet evenings. Rest.

Being close to the people you love. Bear has that comforting quality. Sometimes animals become more than pets. They become part of the rhythm of the family and this is what bear is for Charlie in more than one way.

They are there for ordinary days. They are there when you’re laughing. They are there when you’re having a hard day. And somehow their presence becomes part of what makes a house feel like home. So if Bear were a season: Winter—quiet, comforting, peaceful, and a reminder of home

And Then When ChatGPT Looked at All of Us Together– What I love most about this question isn’t really which season ChatGPT chose. It’s what happens when you put all of those seasons together.

Glenda is spring. Charlie is summer. David is winter. Gerald is fall. Debbie is spring. Renee is fall. Phoebe is summer. Sandy is spring. Bear is winter. And suddenly our family becomes a little like the calendar.

We aren’t all the same. We don’t have to be. Some of us bring energy. Some bring steadiness. Some bring change. Some bring new beginnings. Some bring comfort. And some bring memories. That’s what makes a family. We don’t all have to be the same season.

In fact, maybe it is better that we aren’t. Because if everyone were spring, we might never learn how to rest. If everyone were summer, we might never slow down. If everyone were fall, we might spend too much time letting go.

And if everyone were winter, we might forget that something new is always waiting underneath the surface. We need all four seasons. Just like we need all the different people who make up our families.

So What If You Were a Season?– Now it is your turn. If ChatGPT had to choose a season for you, what would it be? Would you be spring because you’re starting something new? Would you be summer because you’re full of energy and adventure? Would you be fall because you’re changing and growing? Or would you be winter because you are the steady, comforting person others can count on?

And maybe the answer isn’t always the same. Because just like the seasons change, we change, too. There are seasons of our lives when we are beginning. There are seasons when we are celebrating. There are seasons when we are letting go. And there are seasons when we simply need to rest and remember.

Maybe that is the real beauty of asking: What If I Was a Season? We don’t have to stay one season forever. We get to grow. We get to change. We get to bloom. And we get to carry the memories of every season we’ve lived through into whatever comes next.

What season would you be? And if you asked ChatGPT the question, what do you think it would choose for you?

Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
