People including David and Charlie say browsing Facebook is a waste of time for me it’s more than that my friends and family are one there. I find blogger opportunities and businesses I hadn’t heard of and events I would like to attend. This morning I would like to share The Muses of StoryTelling Texas Author Con, which is one even but there is so many reasons to attend this event. The more ways I see it fitting into things we’re already talking about here at Greatful Moments while allowing me to find new books to read .
If you’re following our Back-to-School Gift Guide, The Muses of StoryTelling Texas Author Con could be a great place to find something a little different for a child, teenager, teacher, or even yourself. If you’ve been following our Summer Gift Guide, books are one of those gifts that never really go out of style. You can purchase books directly from participating authors, which means you may be able to find something unique that you won’t see sitting on the shelf at your local big-box store.
And don’t forget our 30 Minutes of Reading challenge. What better way to keep that reading habit going than by meeting authors and discovering new books? You might even find yourself saying, “I have to add that one to my reading list.” Or you might find a book for your children or spouse and actually get them to sit down and read something besides the Cereal box.
And Why Not Get Some Holiday Shopping Done Early? I know. I PREACH one #Holiday at a time but if I can find a new and unique Gift for the people on my Gift Giving list you can bet your bottom dollar I’m going to purchase it. Which is why we’re talking about the holidays while we’re still talking about back-to-school.
But that’s exactly why I think this is worth mentioning. If you find a book that would be perfect for a child, grandchild, teacher, friend, family member, or book lover on your Christmas list, you can get that shopping done early. And there’s something special about giving someone a book that you discovered directly from the author.
Many of the authors will have books available for purchase at the event, and some will be signing books. That means you may be able to take home not just a book, but a signed copy that makes the gift even more personal. Another fun part of meeting authors is getting a picture with them. Some authors may be happy to take a photo with you, but remember that authors are people, too. Please always ask before taking a picture. A simple, “Would you mind if we took a photo together?” is all it takes. If possible get the book in the photo giving them a chance to have there books seen.
Some authors may be signing books, talking with readers, answering questions, or simply trying to enjoy the event themselves. Being courteous makes the experience better for everyone. And if an author says yes? Take that picture! Those are the kinds of little memories that make attending an event like this special.
A Book Can Be a Back-to-School Gift, a Christmas Gift, or a Memory for a event you will want to attend for years to come. That’s what I love about this event. You don’t have to choose just one reason to go. You can go because your child loves books. You can go because you’re homeschooling. You can go because you’re a teacher.
You can go because you’re trying to read for 30 minutes a day. You can go because you’re looking for something different for your summer. You can go because you’re starting your Christmas shopping early. Or you can simply go because you love a good story. And while you’re there, you might meet an author, discover a new book, get something signed, take a photo, find a gift, and make a memory. All at a free local event. That’s the kind of opportunity I love finding and sharing with my Greatful Moments readers.
Grateful, Thankful, Blessed.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
