Life is hard when you have a lot of choices and your trying to decide what Crackers you want as a snack. Thanks to David’s Birthday party and his dad’s memorial service we have Wheat Thins I need to give my sister. Club Crackers Charlie likes for his snacks. Town House because they was on sale and I hadn’t had them in a while. We also have Ritz because I wanted them to use with the Lunch Meat I had.
I thought I would conduct a taste test this morning featuring Ritz vs. Town House vs. Club Crackers: Which One Is Best? Sometimes the simplest things can turn into a pretty serious family debate. For us, it can be something as simple as crackers. Come walk down the cracker aisle at the grocery store and you’ll find plenty of choices, but when you’re looking for that classic cracker to go with cheese, peanut butter, dips, sandwich meat, or just eat straight out of the box, three names always seem to come up: Ritz, Town House, and Club.
And in our house, we don’t all agree on which one is best. Charlie prefers Club Crackers, and I have to admit that I like them too. But if you ask me which cracker is my favorite, I’m choosing Ritz. But if you were to ask David he would say he doesn’t have a favorite and can do without Crackers. That man is crazy.
Ritz Crackers is my favorite, and one of the reasons is that they remind me of things my mom used to make. My mom and dad would put Cheez Whiz on Ritz crackers, and they were very particular about it. They would only buy the real Cheez Whiz, never the store brand. If you asked them about it, they would tell you really quickly not to buy the store brand because it just wasn’t the same.
My mom would also put Cheez Whiz on celery. Those are the kinds of little food memories that stay with you. For me, Ritz crackers are also perfect with peanut butter. There is just something about a Ritz cracker with peanut butter that I’ve always enjoyed and it something Charlie and Suzzane would eat as well. The buttery, salty cracker and the peanut butter make a simple snack that doesn’t need anything else.
Of course, Ritz works with all kinds of toppings, too. You can put cheese on them, add sandwich meat, use them with chicken salad, or crush them for recipes. But if you put a box of Ritz in front of me and some peanut butter beside it, I already know what I’m doing. What about you and why? How do you like Ritz Crackers?
Town House is a little different and one thing I especially like about Town House is the shape. If you’re putting sandwich meat on your cracker, Town House can be a better choice because the cracker gives you more room for the meat than the round Ritz cracker does because it is more round but longer than a Ritz Cracker.
You can make a little snack-sized cracker sandwich without feeling like you’re trying to balance everything on a tiny circle. That’s one of those practical differences you don’t necessarily think about until you’re actually making a snack. Town House is also a good choice when you’re putting together a snack plate or serving crackers with toppings. So if you’re looking for a cracker that can hold a little more, Town House gets points from me.
Then there’s Charlie’s favorite Club Crackers. I actually really like Club Crackers myself, but I especially enjoy eating them plain. There’s something about that light, buttery cracker that makes it good all by itself. Now, that doesn’t mean I won’t put something on a Club cracker.
I’ve eaten them with dips. I’ve put sandwich meat on them. And they work perfectly well with toppings. But if you asked me how I prefer them, I’d probably just eat them plain. Sometimes you don’t need to add anything to a good cracker. Or I don’t but with Charlie and David that is a different story.
So Which One Wins? I don’t think there is one winner because each cracker has something different going for it. Ritz is my favorite. I love them with peanut butter, and they bring back memories of my mom putting Cheez Whiz on crackers and celery. Club is Charlie’s favorite. And even though I like Club too, I usually prefer to eat them plain.
Town House wins when I want to put more on my cracker. Especially if I’m using sandwich meat, the shape gives me more room than the round Ritz cracker. And that’s why I think these little grocery-store comparisons are fun. You can put three similar products next to each other, and everybody can find a different reason to choose one.
Sometimes it’s the taste. Sometimes it’s the shape. Sometimes it’s what your mom and dad insisted on buying. And sometimes it’s simply the cracker you grew up eating. What Would You Choose? If I put three boxes on the kitchen counter—Ritz, Town House, and Club—which one would you reach for first?
Would you choose Ritz like me? Would you choose Club like Charlie? Or would you pick Town House because you like having a little more room for sandwich meat, cheese, or other toppings? And what do you put on yours? Peanut butter? Cheese? Deli meat? Dip? Or do you eat them plain? Because sometimes the simplest snacks have the best stories behind them. For me, a Ritz cracker with peanut butter can take me right back to childhood. And sometimes that’s worth more than any fancy snack.
