As I get up in the morning’s to work I hear families getting there kids ready for school. More times than not there fussing because there running late and someone doesn’t have what they need. I thought I would share some information that will help families create family goals for the new school year which can be used every year.
For family every new school year feels like the beginning of a brand-new chapter. There are fresh notebooks waiting to be filled, new teachers to meet, different routines to learn, and exciting opportunities just around the corner. While it’s easy to focus on school supply lists and calendars, one thing that often gets overlooked is setting goals as a family.
I can honestly say this because when Charlie and Suzzane was in public school I used to forget this more times than I can count. This why I wanted to remind you goals don’t have to be complicated. In fact, the best family goals are often the simplest ones as long as you use them.
Maybe your family wants to eat dinner together more often. Perhaps you’d like to spend less time looking at screens and more time talking about everyone’s day. Maybe your goal is to read together each evening, enjoy a weekly family game night, or spend more time praying together before everyone heads off to school.
While my own son has graduated from high school, I still enjoy encouraging families as they begin a new school year. With our nieces, nephews, and the children and families David and I’ ve been blessed to know, we’ve seen how small, consistent habits often make the biggest difference.
This is why I wanted to remind you to remember that every family is unique. Some children attend public school, while others learn through charter schools, online programs, or homeschool. Your family’s goals should fit your season of life, not someone else’s.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Choose one evening each week for a family activity these activities don’t need to cost money.
- Create a morning routine that everyone can follow and agrees to.
- Celebrate accomplishments, both big and small in both children and adults life.
- Set aside time to read together like our 10 minute reading challenge.
- Encourage kindness at home and at school.
- Practice gratitude by sharing one blessing from each day.
- Keep communication open so everyone feels heard.
The main thing I would like for you to take away from this post is not to worry about making everything perfect. We all know life will get busy, plans will change, and unexpected moments will happen. What matters most is supporting one another through each season.
As we continue our plans and getting ready for school I wanted to share our Back-to-School Countdown, and to remind you to remember that success isn’t measured by having a perfect schedule. It’s measured by the love, encouragement, and memories your family creates together. Tomorrow, we’ll talk about balancing school, homeschool, activities, and family life without feeling overwhelmed.
