David has always loved Egg Rolls and sometimes on the nights we eat Fast Food everyone picks out what they want and David will go and pick up dinner for everyone. Most of the time Charlie want’s Griffs and Gerald want’s Popeye’s. For me you never know what I’m going to choose but this week I think I will get Subway. Would you like to have dinner with me?
As for David he likes to go to Vin Binh and get Eggrolls becuase he has enough to share with his mom and still have left overs for lunch. Growing up his mom and he friend Pat used to make Egg Rolls for David but she doesn’t do it anymore. This is another family recipe I need for her to write down then we can make our own Egg Rolls. Until then David has Vin Binh just like everyone in Haltom City has.
For our family a local food discovery starts with one person in the family finding something they absolutely love. In our family, that person is David. And the food is the egg rolls from Vinh Binh in Haltom City.This is one place David likes sharing with everyone he knows.
Vinh Binh is a small Vietnamese takeout shop on East Belknap Street. It isn’t fancy, and if you aren’t familiar with the area, you could easily drive right past it. It’s tucked into a shopping center, and I always think of O’Reilly Auto Parts as a landmark when we’re trying to find it.
If you’ve lived around Haltom City for a long time, you probably know the stretch of Belknap I’m talking about. Some of us old-timers may even remember Old South Pancake House, another one of those local names that brings back memories of the way this area used to look.
Even though Vin Binh sells more than Eggrollsmy family has only tried one thing from Vinh Binh: the egg rolls. My sister’s family is the same way and only tried the eggl rolls just like my mother in law and David’s brother Mike. And David loves them and so does his family.
David usually gets around 20 egg rolls, which I believe is currently around $16, although prices can change. Current listings show 20 for $16. And yes, he eats them himself. His mom will eat them with him, and Charlie will sometimes eat them, too. Me? No thank you.
Those egg rolls stink up the house! I think he should have to eat them outside and no, don’t put them in my Icebox but he does. The funny part though is the dogs will eat anything and they will not eat these Egg Rolls not because there bad but they don’t like the Cabbage. See I have smart dogs. David doesn’t care one bit.
He even fed them to my brother once, and my brother survived, so I guess that was a successful introduction to Vinh Binh. There is something important you need to know before heading over for egg rolls. Vinh Binh gets busy. We’ve been there when they’ve run out of egg rolls, and when they run out, they shut the door.
They don’t just keep taking orders and tell you they’ll make more later. They’re done. Current customer information also describes long waits during busy periods and recommends calling ahead for larger orders. So if David wants his 20 egg rolls, we’re better off calling first. And if you’re ordering a large quantity for a party, family gathering or potluck, definitely call ahead.
Another thing I want you to know before you go: Bring cash. Current listings identify Vinh Binh as cash-only, and recent customer information also specifically notes that larger orders should be called in ahead of time. Here’s the funny part about the restaurant.
I recently started researching Vinh Binh for this article and realized we’ve been missing a lot of what they offer. Vinh Binh is known locally for its egg rolls, but current information also lists Vietnamese meatballs, sausages, fish cakes, bánh mì, bánh bèo, spring rolls, desserts, drinks and other Vietnamese take-home items.
I didn’t even know they had the meatballs. And I was surprised to learn that some of the Vietnamese meatballs are sold frozen. I had assumed they would be something made fresh in the shop, so I’m not going to pretend I know how they are prepared or what is made from scratch.
We’ve only tried the egg rolls. Maybe one day we’ll branch out .But honestly I can’t see that happening. I also think Vinh Binh is an interesting introduction for someone who hasn’t explored Vietnamese food before. It isn’t a traditional sit-down restaurant experience. It’s primarily a takeout shop, and the egg rolls are clearly a major draw for customers.
A 2017 Fort Worth Magazine feature on Vietnamese food along Belknap Street described Vinh Binh as a takeout shop known especially for its pork egg rolls, along with Vietnamese meatballs, sausages, fish cakes and specialty grocery items since I’ve never been inside I can’t tell you what they carry.
That actually makes sense for our family. We’re not going there for a long dinner. We’re going because David wants his egg rolls. And now I’m curious enough about everything else that maybe someday we’ll try something new. I wish I could tell you the story of who opened Vinh Binh, how the business got started, whether it is a family-owned business, and why they chose this particular location.
But I couldn’t find reliable information that answered those questions, so I’m not going to make up a history for the sake of the article. What we do know is that Vinh Binh has been part of the Haltom City food scene for many years. A Fort Worth Magazine article featured the business back in 2017, and current listings continue to show it at 5310 E. Belknap Street.
Sometimes local businesses don’t have a big online history. They’re just there, year after year, serving the people who know about them. And apparently, people know about these egg rolls. If you ask someone on Facedbook where to get Eggrolls from more times than not there going to say Vinh Binh.

Hours can change, and our own experience has taught us that Vinh Binh can sell out of egg rolls and close the door. Current listings also contain some differences in posted hours, so calling ahead is the safest option.
Before you ask if we would go back? David absolutely would. Charlie might if there wasn’t anything else to eat. His mom would. And me? I’ll probably go along for the ride and let everybody else enjoy the egg rolls. As long as they roll the windows down because those Egg Rolls stink.
But now that I know Vinh Binh has other Vietnamese foods and take-home items, I may have to be a little more adventurous the next time we go. For now, though, Vinh Binh will always be the place where David gets 20 egg rolls, the house starts smelling like egg rolls, and everyone else knows exactly what he brought home. 😂
And if you decide to try it yourself, remember: Call first. Bring cash. Be prepared to wait. And don’t be surprised if they sell out.
