If you’ve been following our 31 Days of Denton adventures, you already know we’ve been talking about the Scary Chair. last week I had plans to go look for the chairs but the LORD had other plans for us and I wasn’t able to lool

Then the other day David said if he is off on Wednesday we could go spend the day in Denton. Now, that I’ve talked about it long enough. David and I are going chair hunting! I just haven’t told David yet. LOL

And honestly, I have absolutely no idea where this adventure is going to take us. Which is probably why I’m looking forward to it so much. I know we will end up in new stores we haven’t been in before and we may end up with lunch or breakfast which will be nice.

Here’s the funny—and honestly, slightly sad—part. I actually asked for help on Facebook. I was hoping somebody might have an old chair sitting around that they didn’t want anymore.

Maybe there was one sitting in a garage, storage building, or somewhere taking up space that somebody would be willing to let us have. I was also hoping somebody might have some ideas about where we should look.

And… Crickets. Nobody responded. Not one person. So I guess that means David and I are on our own! And that’s okay. Because now we’ve got ourselves another adventure. Allowing us to have one on one time together we need.

I even have a back up plan if we can’t make it to Denton and the million-dollar question is can I talk David into going to the Goodwill? Then we could go to Michael’s for supplies and then we might stop at Walmart.

If we are able to make it to Denton there is a store there that is giving us a discount on the supplies we purchase to decorate our chairs with. Which is why the more I think about it, the more I’m thinking: Denton is where we need to go.

Why? I had thought about small Towns near my like Grapevine but when I think about Grapevine, I think Christmas. Grapevine does Christmas beautifully and we’re not looking for Christmas right now.

We’re looking for SCARY! So Denton may be the better adventure for this particular project. Not only that on the way to Denton we pass a lot of other small Towns we can stop and check out.

This is where I would like to say thank you to Larry Stewart and Lisa Marie Bird because we have the truck to bring the chairs home in. Which is a Godsend because we don’t have to try and get them into our GMC.

If we do make the trip to Denton, we might as well make a day of it. We can look for chairs. We can shop for supplies. We can hunt for decorations. We can see what we can find. And, of course… We can stop for lunch! Because if you’re going to go on an adventure, you might as well eat while you’re out. Through it all I will be able to get in the steps I haven’t been getting.

Please don’t ask me what all were looking for because I don’t even have the complete supply list figured out yet. I know I’m probably going to need: A glue gun. That’s a given. I’m also thinking about purple and black flowers.

I remember finding some purple and black flowers at Walmart one year when I was shopping for David’s mom, so maybe I’ll get lucky again. But beyond that? I don’t know! And that’s part of the fun.

Maybe we’ll find something that inspires the whole chair. Maybe we’ll see a decoration and think: “Oh! We have to put that on it!” Maybe we’ll find a chair that tells us exactly what it wants to become. Yes, I know that sounds crazy. But if you’ve ever started a craft project, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

I do believe every good craft project needs a glue gun and duct tape. At least that’s what I tell myself. Need something attached? Glue gun. Something falling off? Glue gun. Something that probably shouldn’t be glued? Well… Duct tape. We’ll figure out the rest when we get there.

With Bradley, Charlie and David helping me with the chairs I have no, clue what our chairs will look like and I actually like that because they may be creepy or maybe they’ll be elegant.

Maybe they’ll look like something sitting in a haunted house or they maybe covered in flowers. Or we may find something completely different than what I have pictured in my head.

That’s okay. Because we’re not trying to copy somebody else’s chair. We’re going to make our Scary Chairs unique and one of a kind. And I’m sure once we get started, the project will take on a life of its own.

The fun part about this isn’t just going to be the finished chair. I want you to come along for the whole adventure. We’ll show you what we find. We’ll show you what we pay. We’ll figure out what supplies we’re going to use.

We’ll show you what works. We’ll probably show you something that doesn’t work, too. And eventually, we’ll show you what these chairs become. Because sometimes the best part of a project isn’t the finished product. It’s everything that happens along the way.

We’re also working on a Scary Chair printable for anyone who wants to make their own. You don’t have to make your chair look anything like ours.

🖤 Creepy
💜 Glamorous
🕷️ Covered in spiders
🌹 An elegant haunted chair
😂 Or something completely ridiculous!

There really aren’t any rules. The whole idea is to take an ordinary chair and use your imagination to turn it into something that makes people stop and say: “Okay… that’s a little creepy!” 😂

So Here We Go! Tomorrow’s mission is pretty simple: Find the chairs. That’s it. We don’t know exactly where we’re going. We don’t know what chairs we’re going to find. We don’t know what supplies we’re going to need. We don’t know whether Charlie is coming.

We don’t know whether we’re going to Denton, Goodwill, Michael’s, Walmart, or somewhere completely unexpected. And we certainly don’t know where we’re going to have lunch. But I do know one thing:

We’re going on an adventure. And maybe that’s the best part. Because sometimes the things you remember aren’t the things you carefully planned. They’re the random Tuesday—or in this case, Wednesday—when you got in the car and say:

“Let’s go see what we can find.” So tomorrow, David and I are going chair hunting. Come along with us. Let’s see if we can find two ordinary chairs that are just waiting to become something wonderfully spooky.And if you happen to have an old chair sitting around that you don’t want anymore… We’re still listening! 😂
