Sunday Family Day: Quiet House, Crockpot Cooking, and Down-Home Living

In my home Sunday mornings in my home are supposed to be family days, but life doesn’t always line up that way. Tomorrow for the first time on a Sunday it will just be Junior and me at home. Everyone else—David, Charlie, and Bradley—will be working. So instead of a full house and a full table, it will be a quieter version of Sunday.

But I still try to keep the heart of Sunday the same. Slow. Simple. Grounded. Gerald is hanging out downstairs watching tv. I have the tv on in the background in my room as I work on a few blog post this morning. Dinner is going to be easy no, down home cooking today. Just French Fries and Fish Sticks and Fish Taco’s for David.

Right now my family is in a working season. Everyone is focused on jobs, overtime, bills, and keeping life steady. Charlie and Bradley are working long hours picking up extra shifts which has changed our rhythm. Even David dealing with knee pain this week has been part of that same push through life season.

So Sunday becomes something different now. Not loud. Not rushed. Just steady. Gerald and I and the dogs waiting at home for everyone to get home from work so we can make sure everyone is okay. Before we call this week I win as the boys made it through there first week of work.

Tomorrow’s plan is a crockpot meal. Something that can cook all day while life moves around it. That slow-cooked smell in the house always makes everything feel more grounded. Do you have any idea what I should put in the crockpot and why?

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
