Sunday Dinner in my Grandmother’s Home

This week when we went shopping at Kroger’s they had there Roast on sale for .99 cents a pound. II couldn’t resist picking up two Roast one to make a Pot Roast for dinner with and the second Roast for Pulled Pork or Stew. Once we got home David put the Roast in the freezer and I put the rest of the groceries up. Each Roast was les than $7 and enough for dinner and two lunches feeding 3 people.

That Roast kept calling my name and I knew I was going to have it as soon as possible. As we watched TV that night I asked David if he would get the Roast out of the Ice Box because I wanted to make it for dinner the next day even though it wasn’t Sunday. Which when I was growing up would be when we had Roast not only at my grandmother’s but in my parents home as well.

David went to work the next day thinking we was having Pot Roast cooked in the Crock Pot but that wasn’t what I had in mind. I got out my Roasting Pan and placed the Roast in the pan with a little bit of water. I didn’t season the Roast because I knew using Seasoning and making Brown Gravy later could make the meat salty.

I had the over pre-heated to 350 degrees and cooked the Roast for 3 hours then I turned it down to 250 degrees for another 2 hours and let it cook. The last hour I peeled and cooked Potatoes for Mashed Potatoes and made Hominy and Brown Gravy to go with the Roast. David picked up Rolls from Sweetie Pie’s one of our local Restaurants.

My sister came to visit and lunch/ dinner was done and served by 3:30. As we were eating David walked in and made him a plate but he took the Roast and made Sandwiches to go with the Vegetables. Once dinner was over Debbie left. David and I cleaned up the kitchen and after 16 years of being married David let me know he liked the Roast better this way than in the Crockpot. Men what can I say other than at times I do as well. LOL

Thank you,
