Summer may officially be behind us, and we may be turning the corner on Fall and Autumn but if you live in Fort Worth, Texas, you know we sometimes feel like we have summer 365 days a year! We don’t exactly get much of a winter around here which is both a good thing and a bad thing.
So today, I thought we would take a little time to celebrate summer, even if I didn’t do quite as much celebrating as I should have this year. Our swimming pool was actually opened, and guess what? I never even got in it once! Nor, did I go over to Lisa Marie Birds to swim.
That’s very unusual for me. I also let my walking slide, didn’t drink as much water as I should have, and somehow managed to let several of those little things I enjoy get pushed aside. Back in September, I had all these grandiose plans for the months ahead. I was going to get things organized, make changes, spend more time outside, and get back into some better routines.
And now here we are. Today is Halloween, tomorrow we’re beginning November, and there are only two months left in the year! Where did the time go? That is the question I’m asking myself today as I look at myself in the mirror and don’t see any of the changes I wanted to make.
But even though that happened I didn’t want summer to slip away without taking a moment to acknowledge it and thank the Lord for another beautiful season. Here is Texas we had gorgeous weather although at times it was hotter than I would like, we had beautiful flowers, and plenty of little reminders of just how blessed we are.
I’m already looking forward to next summer, when I can get outside, enjoy my garden, and hopefully spend a little time in that swimming pool! I hope you feel the same way. Because I do plan on making changes and walking and drinking more water is at the top of my list. Would you want to join me?
Maybe summer was everything you hoped it would be. Maybe you took family vacations, visited someplace new, spent afternoons swimming, worked in your garden, or simply enjoyed sitting outside with a glass of something cold with the people you love and your animals.
Or maybe, like me, summer didn’t go exactly as planned. Perhaps you struggled through it, had things you wanted to accomplish but didn’t, or found yourself wishing you had made more time for the things that bring you joy. And that’s okay, too. Summer is coming back and we can work on accomplishing the things we didn’t get done then.
One thing I wanted to share is that we should be Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed that the Lord gave us another summer. Not every season looks the way we imagined it would, but there is always something worth being thankful, grateful and blessed for. So today, I’d love for you to share a little piece of your summer with me.
What did you love about summer? What did you absolutely hate? What do you wish you had done differently? And perhaps there’s something we can work on changing together as we head into a new season. No, we can’t change the weather. We can’t change other people, either (although sometimes we wish we could!).
But we can change some of the little things around us. We can make time for ourselves, get back to doing things we enjoy, spend more time with the people we love, and stop putting off those little things that make life special. Here’s to being thankful for the summer we had and looking forward to everything the next one might bring. Until then, let’s make the most of the season we’re in!
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
