I love sitting down at my desk and looking over and seeing new books Authors are waiting to be reviewed. This morning it was a children’s book that caught my eye. I could see I Am King Chameleon being a fun bedtime story, #Homeschool Story and just a fun children’s picture book to be read year round.
First I have a question for you. Have you ever read a children’s book and found yourself having just as much fun as the children? That’s exactly what happened when Charlie and I opened I Am King Chameleon! I Demand to Be Seen! by Ben Okon, illustrated by Sourav Majumder.
First, I would like to let you the Author Ben Okon has some wonderfully funny book titles .including Dino Dinos Love Dinosaurs and Monsters Love Brownies both caught my attention, and now I want to read more of his books which the book I received was the very first book of his my family has had a chance to read.
When I looked up Ben Okon, I couldn’t help thinking he reminded me of Mr. Clean! LOL Maybe it’s just me, but now that image is stuck in my head. 😂 But today, we’re talking about a very demanding little king who has something important to say: he wants to be seen!
The book is published by Sourcebooks, and it is a hardcover picture book recommended for children ages four and up but I can see both children and adults of all ages enjoying this story. It combines a rhyming story with a seek-and-find activity that reminded me of a Scavenger Hunt, making it a fun choice for family reading, classrooms, and little readers who enjoy a challenge. And believe me, this chameleon can be quite the challenge!
King Chameleon believes he deserves everyone’s attention. After all, he’s royalty! But there’s one little problem: he has perfect camouflage. His changing colors make him difficult to spot, even when he’s standing right in front of you. The only clues might be his little eyes and his crown.
The story is written in rhyme, and I love how the king keeps reminding readers that he is important and deserves to be noticed. His personality is just as entertaining as the search itself. As he moves through different settings, readers have to look carefully for him among flowers, tall grass, branches, and other places where a chameleon might hide. I especially love his eyes and that little crown. He’s just too cute! Charlie and David said they would love to have him as there newest pet. Me not so much. LOL
While your reading the book your asked if your can find King Chameleon? Which is where the real family fun begins. As you turn each page, you’re invited to find King Chameleon hiding in the illustrations. The scenery changes, and the places he hides become more challenging.
One moment you’re looking through branches and a treetop setting, and then you’re exploring a river, a waterfall, and beautiful mushrooms. There are zebras and so many colorful details that you almost forget you’re supposed to be looking for one little chameleon! And let me tell you, I had trouble finding him!
Charlie and David were much quicker than I was, but that’s probably because their eyes are better than mine. I found myself looking all over the pages while they spotted him much faster. That’s what makes this book so much fun. Everyone can join in, and you don’t have to be a child to enjoy a good game of hide-and-seek. Just ask Charlie and David.
I could see children of different ages taking turns finding King Chameleon, challenging their parents, grandparents, brothers, and sisters to see who can spot him first. Will you be able to find him before everyone else? I can tell you I most likely wouldn’t be the one to find him first but I bet you Charlie would be although David wouldn’t be far behind.
I love how the Author makes sure the fun doesn’t end with the story like most books do. At the end of the book, readers get another challenge: helping King Chameleon find his missing royal belongings. Which was so much fun to find with Charlie and David’s help.
You’ll be searching for things like a royal ring, a bugle, a royal cake, a royal can, royal armor, a royal staff, a song scroll, a decree scroll, a gemstone, and Sabbath rock. That’s quite a shopping list for one little king! The back of the book also includes the story behind the story, along with ideas about creativity, the benefit of failure, the power of almost perfect, and teamwork.
I particularly enjoyed seeing the thank-you to the sixth-grade class involved in creating the book. Wouldn’t that have been fun when we were in sixth grade? Imagine working with your classmates to help create a children’s book that other families would eventually get to enjoy.
There is even an answer key in the back for readers who need a little help finding King Chameleon. But I’m going to suggest that you try finding him yourself before looking at the answers. No cheating! Once you’ve found him, share the challenge with your friends and family.
While looking through the book, I discovered there’s another King Chameleon adventure coming! I’m Classroom King Chameleon! I’m the Coolest King at School! is listed as the second book, with a December 2026 release. That sounds like perfect timing for Charlie’s birthday on December 16.
And here’s another reason I think this series could become a family favorite: Grandma Shery has a lizard, so I already know Charlie and David are going to be interested in seeing what this little king gets up to next. I can imagine them wanting to read the next adventure as soon as it arrives.
What I appreciate most about I Am King Chameleon! I Demand to Be Seen! is that it gives families something to do together while reading. It’s not just about sitting down and listening to a story. Children are looking closely at the illustrations, practicing observation, enjoying rhymes, learning new words, and challenging the people reading with them.
It’s a fun addition to a classroom library, a homeschool reading basket, a grandparent’s bookshelf, or a Christmas gift pile. And because the illustrations are so colorful and full of details, even younger children who enjoy looking through picture books can participate with an adult.
So, Santa, when you’re loading up the sleigh, please make sure you have enough copies of I Am King Chameleon! I Demand to Be Seen! for all the good little boys and girls on your list. And please bring the second book for our family, too. I would really appreciate it!
In the meantime, I have one question for you: Can you find King Chameleon? Come join our family for a little royal hide-and-seek. Just remember, no looking at the answer key until you’ve given it your best try! Happy reading, happy searching, and remember: Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed!

Meet the Author: Ben Okon

As a children’s book author, Ben Okon has the second-best job in the world. And he found it by accident.
Ben’s first child was born in the midst of COVID-19, at the same time that his grandmother Gigi, a retired writing teacher, became isolated. With no way for Gigi and his baby to meet, Ben helped them connect over videos, where they enjoyed reading children’s books together.
This simple experience sparked an obsession: using the power of storytelling to share special moments across generations. Ben’s stories are filled with humor, heart, and self-discovery and are as varied as the readers who enjoy them. They include unexpected wordplay, interwoven games, cross-generational humor, and subtle (or not-so-subtle) tips and tricks about life. But they are all bound by one common theme: a unique style that gives everyone–of every age–something to learn, love, or laugh about.
Ben has now published dozens of children’s books, including award winners and bestsellers, across multiple series such as King Chameleon, Younger Me Academy, Mythical Feasts, and Mo’s Emotions.
So what’s the best job in the world, you ask? Ben has that one too. He’s the dad to two rambunctious boys and husband to an amazing wife.
He’s had a bunch of other cool jobs as well. He helped raise seeing-eye dogs for a while and got paid once or twice for juggling. He worked in restaurants, parked cars, and tinkered with strategies for companies like Google (he’s still enjoying this one, too!). But those are all stories for another day.
