Homeschool Resource Start with a Book

It’s Wednesday, July, and time for Language Arts Homeschool Resources. I would like to bring your Start with a Book which allows our children to have new reading resources during the Summer. Charlie and I will be checking out the resources on Dinosaurs this morning and if you have other Dinosaur resources you think we should check into Please leave me a comment and a link as I am working on next years Lesson Plans.

Start with a Book

Age Range: 3-12 (Grades PreK-8, with parental supervision)

This website is a project of the PBS show, Reading Rockets and along with funding from The Park Foundation, Inc. they offer themed booklists and activities for summer reading and learning.

When you get to the website click on any of the graphics in the center of the page. A new page opens providing instructions on how to explore a particular theme:

Fiction and non-fiction books (suggested list by age and grade)
Hands-on activities
Fun ideas to build writing skills
Kid-friendly websites
Play and learn mobile apps

The activities include a materials list with pictures and instructions and discussion help. Many themes like these can be explored:

Dinosaurs
Flight
Bugs, Birds, and Animals
Stars, Planets and the Night Sky
Weather
Detectives and Explorers
Art and Artists
Folktales, Fairy Tales, and Myths
Poetry
and many more!
