Frogglez Mermaidz Swim Goggles Review: No Hair Pulling and They FLOAT!

Disclosure: I received a pair of Frogglez Mermaidz Kids Swim Goggles to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.

This morning I was cleaning off my desk and I found Frogglez Mermaidz Swim Goggles as I was lookig at the package I begin to think tere are some products you look at and immediately think, Why didn’t somebody think of this years ago?

Then there are the products that make you stop and think, Okay, that’s actually pretty darn clever. That was my first thought when I learned about Frogglez Goggles which would have been a Godsend when both Charlie and Suzzane were little because they both live in the swimming pool.

Before I share my thoughts with you I wanted to let you know Ieceived the Mermaidz Pink Kids Swim Goggles, which are designed for children ages 3 and up for this review. They’re absolutely adorable, but what caught my attention wasn’t just the mermaid design. It was the strap system — and the fact that these goggles FLOAT.

And let me tell you, that floating feature is a big deal to me. Because Somebody Always Loses the Goggles more times than I can count and if you’ve ever taken kids swimming, you already know how this works. The goggles come off. Someone drops them. They sink. Then Mom gets to go looking for them.

I’m not exactly the person you want sending to the bottom of the pool. I can’t swim, so having goggles that float instead of immediately disappearing into the deep end sounds like a pretty wonderful idea to me! I liked learning Frogglez uses a patented strap design that helps keep the goggles secure and comfortable while also allowing them to float. That alone got my attention.

The pair I received is the Mermaidz Pink design, which we all know both Charlie and Suzzane would have claimed because they love pink. But if the truth is told I wouldn’t have minded keeping them for myself. They would have been perfect for Lily when she was little.

I like how they are cute without sacrificing the practical features parents are actually looking for in a pair of swim goggles. And Frogglez doesn’t just make them for little kids. They have goggles for kids, teens, and adults, so this isn’t a product that stops being useful once a child gets older.

They also have a blue shark design that immediately made me think of Charlie. If he had been little when these were available, I know the shark pair would have been the one he picked. Not only that my nephew Jason would have liked these as well.

One of the things I really like about the Frogglez design is the soft, fabric-covered neoprene strap. Instead of having a traditional rubber strap that can pull at hair, the soft neoprene glides over the hair. If you’ve ever tried to pull a pair of swim goggles out of a child’s long or curly hair, you know exactly why this matters. Nobody wants the fun of swimming to end with, Hold still while I get these out of your hair.

Frogglez specifically designed these to avoid the hair pulling, squished eyes and uncomfortable ears that can come with traditional goggles. Another feature that stood out to me is that kids can learn to put these goggles on and adjust them themselves. The straps are easy to adjust, and the goggles are designed to stretch for a comfortable fit around the head. For moms and dads, that can be a godsend.

Instead of hearing, “Mom, fix my goggles,” every five minutes, older kids can learn how to put them on, adjust them and take them off themselves.

The instructions are easy peasy Lemon squeezy:

  1. Grab the goggles by the back of the strap.
  2. Pull the goggles onto the forehead.
  3. Slide the back strap over the head.
  4. Adjust the side straps for a secure fit.

The goal is a comfortable, watertight seal without constantly fighting with the goggles.

Another question you might be asking yourself is what happens when the Goggle Strap Breaks? I don’t know about you but all of my friends and family have been there. Goggle straps don’t exactly have a reputation for lasting forever. And they always seem to break at the most inconvenient time — usually when you’re getting ready to swim.

One thing I appreciate about Frogglez is that the straps work with most popular goggle brands. The goggles also come with extra extender bands, which gives you some flexibility when you need a little more room or a replacement. That’s a much more practical approach than having to throw away an otherwise perfectly good pair of goggles because the strap gave up.

The Frogglez Mermaidz goggles have 100% UV protection and anti-fog polycarbonate lenses. They’re also latex-free and independently tested to be free of harsh chemicals including lead, phthalates and formaldehyde keeping our children safe.

Of course, goggles need to do more than look cute. They need to stay in place, keep water out and allow kids to see while they’re swimming. The watertight seal is designed to stay securely around the eyes without creating that uncomfortable, squished feeling.

And Did I Mention They FLOAT? I’m going to keep coming back to this because I really like the fact that these goggles float. Traditional goggles hit the water and sink. Frogglez goggles float. For a family with kids who are constantly swimming, that can mean fewer lost goggles and fewer trips to the bottom of the pool looking for them. For someone who doesn’t swim? I’ll take every little bit of help I can get!

Are They Worth $27.99? Here’s where I’m going to be honest. The regular price for the Pink Mermaidz Kids Swim Goggles is $27.99. And when I’m used to running into Walmart or Dollar Tree and grabbing a cheap pair of goggles, $27.99 is definitely enough to make me stop and think.

I’m not going to pretend I wouldn’t notice the price. I also wouldn’t necessarily expect Santa to bring every child several pairs of $27.99 goggles just because they’re cute enough to fit into a Christmas stocking. But these aren’t simply inexpensive goggles with a cute design.

You’re paying for the patented strap system, soft neoprene, easy adjustment, anti-fog lenses, UV protection, watertight seal, extra extender bands and the floating design. And if your child swims regularly — especially if they swim year-round — those features become much more important.

Living in Texas also changes the way I look at swimming gifts. Christmas may be in the middle of winter, but that doesn’t mean kids aren’t swimming. We don’t exactly get guaranteed snow days here, and plenty of kids swim year-round in indoor pools, community pools, swim schools and other facilities.

That’s why I think a pair of Frogglez goggles could make an interesting Christmas stocking stuffer or holiday gift for a child who loves the water. They’re small enough to fit in a stocking, they’re useful, and the different designs give kids something fun to choose from. The Mermaidz Pink pair is especially cute for little girls, while the shark designs would be a fun choice for kids who aren’t interested in mermaids.

What I Like About Frogglez: There are several things that stand out to me about these goggles:

  • They float.
  • The soft neoprene strap is designed not to pull or tangle hair.
  • Kids can learn to put them on and adjust them themselves.
  • The patented strap design provides a secure and comfortable fit.
  • They have 100% UV protection.
  • The lenses are anti-fog.
  • They’re latex-free.
  • They’re designed with a watertight seal.
  • Extra extender bands are included.
  • The straps work with most popular goggle brands.
  • There are designs available for kids, teens and adults.

For me, though, the floating feature is still number one. Because lost goggles are annoying. Lost goggles at the bottom of the pool are even more annoying. Not knowing how to swim and retrieve lost goggles is even more annoying and that is why I’m grateful, thankful and blessed to have learned about these goggles.

Would I have automatically spent $27.99 on a pair of children’s goggles before trying Frogglez? Honestly, probably not. I’m the woman who is used to grabbing a pair at Walmart or Dollar Tree when somebody needs goggles. But after seeing the features on the Frogglez Mermaidz goggles, I understand why they’re priced differently.

These are designed to solve several of the little problems parents deal with when kids wear swim goggles — hair pulling, uncomfortable straps, goggles slipping around, kids needing help adjusting them and, most importantly for me, goggles sinking to the bottom of the pool.

The Frogglez Mermaidz Pink Kids Swim Goggles are cute, practical and designed with kids in mind. And if your child is the kind of kid who loves the water, they’re definitely worth putting on your list of swim gear to consider. Especially if you’re tired of chasing after goggles that sink.Because if I’m going into a pool after somebody else’s goggles, they better be worth the trip!
