Spirited Away — 25th Anniversary Celebration– In theatres October 17–21
Studio Ghibli fans have a special reason to celebrate! Hayao Miyazaki’s Academy Award-winning animated film Spirited Away returns to theatres as part of Studio Ghibli Fest.
The story follows Chihiro, a young girl whose family encounters a mysterious abandoned village. When her parents undergo a strange transformation, Chihiro finds herself in a magical world inhabited by extraordinary spirits and ruled by the powerful sorceress Yubaba.
Working in a supernatural bathhouse, Chihiro must find the courage and determination to save her parents and return home. Set in Spain in 1944, the Academy Award-winning film follows young Ofelia as she moves to a military outpost with her pregnant mother and cruel stepfather. There, she discovers a mysterious labyrinth and encounters a faun who claims she is a lost princess.
To reclaim her throne, Ofelia must complete three dangerous tasks as the lines between fantasy and reality begin to blur. Combining dark fantasy with the harsh realities of its historical setting, this film explores innocence, courage, and resistance. Its mature themes and disturbing imagery make it a more appropriate choice for adult audiences.
It dosen’t matter if your drawn to the artistry of Wildwood, the magic of Spirited Away, the drama of Macbeth, or the darker storytelling of Pan’s Labyrinth, these special theatrical releases offer different ways to enjoy the big screen. Screening dates and participating theatres can vary, so check availability before making plans.
