Formula E Is Coming to Texas: Austin E-Prix Brings Electric Racing to COTA in February 2027

Texas has plenty of racing fans, and now there’s a new motorsports experience to put on the calendar. Formula E is bringing its all-electric racing championship to Circuit of The Americas in Austin for the first time on February 6, 2027.

When I think about family experiences worth sharing on Greatful Moments, I love finding events that offer more than one reason to attend. The inaugural Austin E-Prix promises high-speed racing, interactive activities, food, music, and entertainment that could make it a memorable day for families and motorsports fans. According to the announcement from Formula E, tickets are now on sale for the 2027 Austin E-Prix, which will be Round 4 of the 2026–2027 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

A New Era of Electric Racing Arrives in Texas

The Austin race will mark the American debut of Formula E’s new GEN4 race car. This next generation of electric racing technology features up to 600 kilowatts of power, active all-wheel drive, and acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in approximately 1.8 seconds, according to the announcement. The GEN4 car is designed to deliver faster, more competitive racing while showcasing advances in electric vehicle technology. Formula E also says the car uses 100% reusable materials, highlighting the championship’s focus on sustainability. Circuit of The Americas, known for its elevation changes and challenging track layout, will give drivers a new setting in which to demonstrate the capabilities of these cars.

More Than a Day at the Track

The Austin E-Prix is being planned as a full-day event, with activities beyond the racing itself. The Fan Village is expected to include interactive zones, gaming areas, food and drink, and family activities. After the podium celebrations, ticket holders will also have access to live performances on the COTA main stage. The artists are expected to be announced at a later date. That combination of motorsports and entertainment could make this an appealing outing for families who want to enjoy the atmosphere even if everyone in the group isn’t already a devoted racing fan.

American Racing Team Returns to Texas

The event will also be a home race for the American Andretti Formula E team. Its lineup includes 2022–2023 Formula E world champion Jake Dennis and Felipe Drugovich. The championship features major automotive manufacturers including Porsche, Jaguar, Nissan, Citroën, Lola Cars, Mahindra, and Opel, all competing in the all-electric series.

When and Where to Attend

The inaugural Austin E-Prix takes place Saturday, February 6, 2027, at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas. According to Formula E’s ticket announcement, prices start at $64 for adults and $32 for children. Families should check the official ticket page for current pricing, available ticket options, and any applicable fees before making plans. Tickets are available through the Circuit of The Americas website. Fans can also find championship information at FIAFormulaE.com.

As Formula E makes its Texas debut, the Austin E-Prix gives families and racing enthusiasts a new event to consider for their 2027 calendars. Between the electric racing, interactive fan activities, and planned live music, this could be an exciting way to experience a different side of motorsports in the Lone Star State.
