Five In A Row

I wanted to share a new Homeschooling Resource with everyone called Five In A Row the program we use to teach Charlie 3rd grade. FIAR for children ages 5/6.

Besides FIAR you ’ll need a good phonics program and a simple introduction to math program for the grades you will be teaching. I will be using workbooks for Charlie.

For children who are already reading successfully, you’ll need to supplement daily math and spelling as well as penmanship and grammar if you choose to teach those as individual subjects.

intend to do so I will search online for free resources or websites Charlie likes and join them and use “Free Worksheets” when I can find them. Or I will create our own resources.

I wanted to share the main reason I chose Five In A Row, and that is because you use one book a week and each day we read a story from the book to the children.

If we need to stay on a Lesson longer, we can and for Charlie reading is hard  and he doesn’t always pick up and remember a book as fast as other children do. Reading the same book five days in a row will help Charlie retain what he is learning.

Another feature I like about Five In A Row is there is a cookbook that goes along with the curriculum. I have been wanting Charlie to cook more because this is something Charlie enjoys.

Using the cookbook will allow us to sample recipes we wouldn’t usually try. Also this will let David help out as he does the cooking and I believe the cookbook should bring Charlie and David closer together.
