Handzies Wipes: Soap and Water Cleaning Without a Sink

Disclosure: Handzies provided our family with the opportunity to try Handzies again. As always, the opinions and experiences shared here are our own. I only share products that we have actually used and that I believe could be helpful to my readers. Visit Handzies to learn more about the company and its products.

There are some products that come into our home, we try them, and then life goes on. And then there are products that our family tries and everybody starts stealing them from Mom. Handzies is one of those products. Which is why you will find them inside our Christmas Gift Guide/ Wish List again this year.

My family has used Handzies in the past, and when our family gets the opportunity to try them again, I already know what is going to happen. I am going to have to hide them. Why? Because David likes to keep them in his work bag, his locker and his truck. Charlie has started keeping them in his car, on his desk and next to his bed. And I keep mine on my desk, in my kitchen and wherever else I might need one. Apparently, we have reached the point where we need to have a family meeting about who gets the Handzies!

One of my favorite things about Handzies is actually right there in the description: Squeaky clean. No sink required. The Free & Clear Handzies are individually packaged cleansing towelettes made with Handzies’ proprietary formula of Castile soap and water. The company describes the formula as using olive-oil-based Castile soap, purified water and essential oils. And that makes a difference.

These aren’t the little wipes that you use and then feel like you have some sticky coating left on your hands. They actually leave my hands feeling clean. There isn’t that strong chemical smell that you sometimes get from cleaning wipes or hand sanitizing products either. That is particularly important in our family because strong smells can be a problem for us, and I appreciate being able to grab a Handzies without worrying about an overpowering fragrance.

The individually wrapped packages are probably one of my favorite features. There are 24 individually packaged towelettes in the Free & Clear package, and each towel measures approximately 7 by 6 inches. That means I don’t have to carry an entire package everywhere.

If I’m heading out the door, I can grab one or two and put them in my purse or bag. If I’m sitting at my desk eating something messy? Handzies. If I’ve been eating Cheetos and don’t want orange fingers? Handzies. If I’m cooking and have been handling meat? Handzies. If we’re out somewhere and there isn’t a convenient sink? You guessed it. Handzies.

The company specifically suggests keeping them in lunch boxes, backpacks, purses, gym bags, cars and while traveling or camping. But our family has discovered that list is only the beginning. When we were homeschooling, Handzies were one of those things that I considered a must-have.

You know how homeschooling goes. Somebody is eating. Somebody is doing an art project. Somebody is handling something sticky. Somebody has food on their hands. And somehow everybody needs to wash their hands at exactly the same time more times than not in my home.

Having individually packaged soap-and-water wipes meant I didn’t always have to stop what we were doing and send everyone running to the bathroom. I could see teachers keeping these in their desks, too. They would also make sense for classrooms, church nurseries, offices, travel bags and family vehicles. And if you’re putting together a college student’s care package, I think these would be a great little addition.

Handzies are marketed for many of those everyday situations where you need clean hands but don’t have a sink nearby. But I can see them being useful for every age. Parents can keep them in diaper bags. Kids can keep them in backpacks. Teenagers can keep them in their cars. Adults can keep them in a work bag. Travelers can put them in their luggage.

And I can see seniors finding them especially useful when getting up and down to wash their hands isn’t always convenient. They are also useful for those little moments that don’t necessarily require a full trip to the bathroom. Sometimes you just need to clean your hands.

Handzies says the Free & Clear formula does not contain alcohol, triclosan, BZK or artificial perfumes or dyes. The product is also listed as dermatologist tested, hypoallergenic, cruelty-free, vegan and non-GMO. The company also explains that its formula uses Castile soap, purified water and essential oils rather than an alcohol-based hand sanitizer formula.

I like knowing what I’m putting on my hands, especially when we’re using something repeatedly. And I really appreciate that I don’t have to deal with that sticky hand-sanitizer feeling afterward. Or end up with a hand sanitizer that contains alcohol or a harsh scent.

They’re Easy to Use; The instructions are about as simple as they can be:

  1. Tear open the package.
  2. Remove and unfold the towel.
  3. Wipe until clean.
  4. Dispose of properly.
  5. Do not flush the towelette.

That’s it.

I also noticed something this time that I hadn’t really paid attention to before: the individual packages have an expiration date. That’s a nice reminder when you’re stocking your purse, car, desk or emergency supplies that these aren’t something you should put away and forget about forever.

Handzies says its packaging incorporates recycled material, and the company has an emphasis on sustainability in its packaging and manufacturing. For something that is designed to be convenient and disposable, I appreciate a company thinking about what goes into the packaging as well.

The current price for the Free & Clear 24-count package is $14.99 on the Handzies website. And yes, when you first look at that price, you might think: That’s a lot for 24 wipes! But I think you have to look at what you’re actually getting. You’re not buying a dry towel and then needing to find water.

You’re not mixing anything. You’re not carrying a bottle of soap. You’re not dealing with a bottle of hand sanitizer. You tear open one individually packaged towel, clean your hands and you’re done. For me, the convenience is part of the value. And considering how often my family members apparently “borrow” mine, I’m thinking we might need to start buying them in a bigger package! Or take stock out in the company. Handzies currently also offers larger Free & Clear packages, including a 100-count option, as well as other package sizes.

We’re heading into the time of year when I’m thinking about Christmas gift guides, stocking stuffers and those practical gifts that people will actually use. So you can bet your bottom dollar that I’ll be telling Santa, as we’re loading the sleigh, to make sure there are Handzies in the front of it.

Because Santa is going to be eating cookies. Lots of cookies. And I think he might need clean hands, too! But I’m not just thinking about Santa. I hope he tells the Elves these would make wonderful gifts for all the good parents on his Wish List this year especially teachers.

I can see Handzies being a practical gift for:

  • New parents
  • Teachers
  • College students
  • Travelers
  • Grandparents
  • Seniors
  • Homeschool families
  • Campers
  • People who work on the road
  • Nurses and medical-office staff
  • Church nurseries
  • Anyone who spends a lot of time in the car

Honestly, I think almost everybody could find a place for them. Now, I know you want to know if I would I keep Handzies in our Home? Absolutely. Our family’s biggest problem isn’t figuring out whether we’ll use Handzies. It’s figuring out who is going to get the last one!

I love having them on my desk. David keeps them with his work things and in his truck. Charlie has found his own places to stash them. And after using them again, I can see why. They’re convenient, individually packaged, easy to carry and give me that soap-and-water clean feeling without having to find a sink.

For a busy family, sometimes that little bit of convenience makes a big difference. And if you happen to see me hiding a package of Handzies in my desk drawer? Now you know why. Remember like in Las Vegas what happens in my office stays in my office. Because if I don’t hide them, David and Charlie will take them!

You can learn more about Handzies, see the different products and find the current Free & Clear options on the official Handzies website. The Free & Clear 24-count package is currently listed at $14.99.
