As we move through the week I wanted to bring you another question for our questions that make us go hmm series. Even though my children are grown there is still times they hit me with questions that make me go hmm and that is why I wanted to share this new series with you. If your #Homeschooling your children these questions can be used as part of there Creative Writing Class.
Before I share today’s question with you I wanted to remind you the easiest questions aren’t the ones that make you stop and think. That’s what I love about our Questions That Make Us Go “Huh?” series. Today I’m asking a question that could start a pretty serious discussion around our dinner table:
Fried chicken or rotisserie chicken?
Now, if you know my family, you probably already know there are going to be some very different answers. Charlie is definitely a fried chicken person, but there’s a catch. He wants his fried chicken boneless. If my dad was here he would say it isn’t Fried Chicken if it isn’t on a bone and even though I eat Boneless Chicken I agree with my dad.
If the chicken has bones, Charlie would probably choose chicken strips instead. That’s just Charlie. Me? Give me my daddy’s down-home fried chicken. The kind that’s fried right on the bone and served with cream gravy and homemade mashed potatoes. That’s Sunday dinner to me and one of the things I miss the most about my parents.
There’s just something about the way my dad made fried chicken. It wasn’t fancy. It didn’t need to be. It was good old-fashioned comfort food, and when you put that chicken beside homemade mashed potatoes and cream gravy, you’ve got a meal I could sit down to any Sunday. My brother feels the same way.
He’s another fried-chicken-on-the-bone person, especially when it’s made the way our dad used to make it. Then there’s David. David loves fried chicken too, but he also really likes Pollo Loco, which is more along the lines of rotisserie-style chicken. So if you asked him, he might have a hard time choosing.
But if I really, really made him pick one? I think David would choose fried chicken. Honestly, David would probably eat fried chicken every day of the week if I let him. And now I have something new that could change the chicken game around here. My Frigidaire air fryer has a rotisserie function. I’ve never actually made a rotisserie chicken at home before, even though I have a rotisserie seasoning sitting up in my cabinet waiting for me.
So now I’m going to have to try it. I have no idea why I’ve waited this long. I’ve had the seasoning. I’ve had the desire to make one. It’s healthier for me And now I have an appliance that can actually do it. So I think a homemade rotisserie chicken may be coming to our dinner table very soon. And if it turns out good, you know I’ll be sharing it with you.
In the meantime, I’m curious about your family. Are you a fried chicken person or a rotisserie chicken person? And don’t just tell me which one you prefer. Tell me why. Is it the crispy coating on fried chicken? Is it the seasoning? Is it the memories attached to the way your family made it? Or do you prefer rotisserie chicken because it’s juicy, easy, and doesn’t require standing over a skillet frying chicken?
And if you’ve ever made a rotisserie chicken at home, please share your recipe with us. I’m going to need some help before I turn that little rotisserie function on for the first time! Maybe your recipe will be the one that convinces me that homemade rotisserie chicken deserves a regular place at our dinner table.
So here is today’s question: Fried chicken or rotisserie chicken — and why? I’m already pretty sure what my family would choose. But I’m curious about yours. After this question I hope David is off on Wednesday because I have Chicken in the Ice Box and my dad’s Fried Chicken is calling my name that Rotisserie Chicken is going to have to wait.
