I thought I would ask you a question this morning as I begin shopping for Christmas Gifts for my nieces and nephews. Have you ever seen a craft kit and immediately started thinking about all the people you could make it with? That’s what happened when I came across the CRAFTILOO Latch Hook Rainbow Heart Pillow Kit!
When I look at craft kits like this, I don’t just see a finished project. I see an opportunity to spend time together, laugh at our mistakes, learn something new, and make memories along the way. And isn’t that what crafting with family should be about? It also makes me think of Suzzane and the crafts she and I used to do as well as the ones Charlie and I would do when he was #Homeschooling full time but we still do crafts today even though Charlie is turning 19. Do you do crafts with our family?
When I was looking up crafts kits for my nieces I found CRAFTILOO Latch Hook Rainbow Heart Pillow Kit which is designed to help children create a colorful heart-shaped pillow. The bad part is I wanted to keep the pillow for myself because it combines shades of yellow, blue, grayish blue, and pink and purple to create a cheerful rainbow heart.
If you know about me you know I’ve collected hearts all my life so this would be a nice addition to my collection. Although this kit is for Lily when I help Santa I will ask him to bring a kit for me and also for Charlie to make for Mikalia for Christmas and this is why you will find this kit inside our Christmas Gift Guide/ Wish List.
I like how the kit includes a preprinted, color-coded canvas, precut yarn, a latch hook tool, stuffing for the pillow, and an eight-page instruction booklet. There is also a QR code that takes you to a step-by-step video tutorial which would be easier for David than reading a instruction manual.
Having the materials together makes this a nice option for someone who wants to try latch hooking without having to hunt down all the supplies separately. The estimated crafting time is around four to six hours, so this is a project our children can work on over more than one sitting. That can be a good thing when you’re crafting with children who might prefer to work a little at a time.
One thing I noticed is that the kit’s age recommendation isn’t presented consistently. The product listing says ages six and up, while the website lists ages eight and up. When it comes to using the kit with your children use your judgment on what age can use the kit. If you’re purchasing this kit as a gift, I would check the age recommendation on the current listing before ordering. Every child is different, and a craft that is enjoyable for one child may need more adult assistance for another.
I can picture this being a fun project for a child to make for a best friend, a sibling, or someone special. A handmade pillow is a gift that says, Charlie said he would like to make one for his grandmother Sherry because it says “I thought of you, and I made this just for you.”
I can imagine working on a project like this with Charlie and our friends and family. We might laugh over the yarn, help each other figure out the instructions, and enjoy watching the rainbow heart come together. Or we might get frustrated and hand it off to David to finish and that is okay because it would become a true family craft.
This is also the kind of activity I would have considered for Charlie’s homeschool art lessons. Crafting gives children a chance to practice patience, follow directions, use their hands, and see a project through to completion. And let’s be honest: sometimes the best part of a craft isn’t whether every stitch is perfect. It’s the time you spend together while you’re making it!
You could even turn this into a Christmas activity. Imagine giving a child the kit as a present and then sitting down together during the holidays to work on it. Santa might need somewhere soft to lay his head between homes, after all! Make sure to order extra kits because everyone is going to want there own kit.
CRAFTILOO offers other craft kits, too, so if this rainbow heart pillow isn’t quite right for the child on your Christmas list, there are other projects to explore. I also love the idea of adults joining in instead of simply handing a craft to a child and walking away. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other special people can choose a project of their own and craft alongside the children. You might discover that you enjoy making things together just as much as they do!
If you’re looking for a colorful craft that can encourage creativity and provide an opportunity for family time, the CRAFTILOO Latch Hook Rainbow Heart Pillow Kit is worth considering. I can see it being a thoughtful gift for a child who enjoys hands-on activities, making presents for friends, or trying something new. Just remember to double-check the age recommendation before purchasing. Sometimes a gift doesn’t need batteries, a screen, or a complicated setup. Sometimes a little yarn, a colorful design, and time together are enough to make something special.
Would you give this rainbow heart pillow kit as a Christmas gift, or would you save it for a family crafting afternoon? I’d love to hear what you think!
