Blackstone Cookbooks We Love — Plus Our Make-It-Your-Way Blackstone Recipe

I don’t know about the men if your lives but finding Gifts for David is hard because he is wants something and we have the money he will purchase it for himself. Just as my dad did and also his dad. As Charlie get’s older and finds a new job I wonder if he is going to be the same way which drives me batty.

This time though I might have a idea for a Gift for David he wouldn’t have thought of. Since we bought out Blackstone Grill the other day I’ve been thinking about getting him some accessories for it and when I do I was also thinking about getting him a Blackstone Cookbook or two.

For David there is something about cooking on a Blackstone that makes an ordinary meal feel a little more fun. I can’t wait until Charlie and I are able to make our first meal on the Blackstone. I was thinking Fajita’s. What do you think?

When David and I discovered we both wanted a Blackstone, we weren’t looking to become professional griddle chefs. We wanted something we could use for the kinds of meals our family already enjoys — hamburgers, hot dogs, bacon, pork chops and good old-fashioned down-home cooking.

And that’s why I started looking at Blackstone cookbooks. If you have recently bought a Blackstone, or you’re shopping for someone who has, a good cookbook can be a wonderful way to get started.

The cookbook gives you ideas for what to cook, helps you learn what your griddle can do, and sometimes inspires you to try something you wouldn’t have thought of yourself. I decided we didn’t need a huge list of cookbooks. Instead, I wanted to choose a few that stood out for different reasons.

The first cookbook I was thinking about getting David is The Beginner’s Blackstone Cookbook: | 2 Books in 1 | Beginner-Friendly Super Easy Recipes & Fast 10-Minute Outdoor Favorites to Master Your Blackstone Like a Pro

If you’re buying a Blackstone cookbook for someone who is just getting started, this is the kind of book I would look at first. Because it would teach us the basics of cooking on our new Blackstone.

A beginner’s cookbook makes a great companion to a brand-new griddle because you’re not necessarily looking for complicated recipes. I want ideas that will help my family get comfortable while cooking on our Blackstone.

This would be a particularly fun gift for someone receiving their first Blackstone for Christmas, a birthday, Father’s Day, or another special occasion. Which is why you will find these cookbooks inside our Simmer Gift Guide, Back-to- School Gift Guide, Halloween Gift Guide and Christmas Gift Guide.

The second cookbook I found I thought David and Charlie might like The Homemade BBQ Flavor Cookbook: Everything You Need to Master Homemade Rubs, Marinades, Sauces, Bastes & More – Stop Overpaying for Store-Bought Blends, & Unlock Bold, Irresistible BBQ Flavor

My family does a lot of barbecue-style cooking around here, including Ribs which we end up cooking in the Stove or in my Crockpot so having a cookbook centered around barbecue flavors caught my attention.

If your family enjoys burgers, pork, grilled meats and all those flavors that make you think of summer cookouts, this is a fun direction to take your Blackstone cooking. And remember — you don’t have to wait for summer to cook barbecue-inspired food! Wouldn’t a Brisket be good?

The “I Love My Blackstone Griddle” Cookbook: From Fluffy Buttermilk Pancakes to Crispy Breaded Pork Chops, 175 Easy and Delicious Recipes! (“I Love My” Cookbook Series). Doesn’t this sound amazing?

This Cookbook caught my eye because it says Pancakes one of David and Suzzane’s favorite foods. This cookbook caught my attention because it gives us more variety which I know David and Charlie will like.

With this cookbook you can think beyond burgers and steaks and start thinking about breakfast, everyday meals and even desserts. Pancakes, pork chops and other recipes can turn your Blackstone into something you use for much more than an occasional cookout.

That’s one of the things I love about a Blackstone. Once you start thinking about everything you can cook on that big flat surface, the possibilities seem endless. For me that is amazing because it keeps my kitchen clean and keeps the house cool as we cook outside. Now I really need to find a small picnic table or bar for the back porch.

Of course, we couldn’t do a Greatful Moments Blackstone roundup without creating one of our own recipes! So for our Down-Home Cooking series, we’re making a breakfast dish I knew everyone would like Blackstone breakfast-for-dinner hash. And this is one of those recipes where I don’t want to tell you that there is only one right way to make it.

Our Blackstone Breakfast-for-Dinner Hash

Start with the things that make sense for your family. Think crispy potatoes, bacon, sausage and eggs. If you like onions, add onions. If you like Peppers add them.

I do onions, and Gerald does onions too. But peppers? That’s where our family is different. We don’t do peppers. And that’s okay! Your family may love onions and peppers. Add them.

You can also add cheese if you like it. As much as I love Cheese I don’t eat cheese on breakfast dishes, but Gerald, David and Charlie do. I don’t eat salsa either, but they do. That’s exactly why I love recipes like this.

You can cook the basic ingredients on your Blackstone and then let everybody make theirs the way they like it. I would probably keep mine as a meal because I don’t like all my food mixed together. But somebody else might pile everything together, add cheese and salsa, and turn it into a breakfast burrito. And that’s perfectly fine!

Make It Your Way: Take that same Blackstone hash and you can: Make a burrito with a tortilla. Put it on a croissant. Serve it on light bread. Eat it right off the plate as a meal. Add cheese. Add salsa. Add onions. Add peppers if your family likes them. Or leave out anything you don’t like.

Having a recipe like this is a Godsend for my family because everyone could have what they like which would cut down on the drama because the sky’s the limit when you’re making it your way. And that’s the whole idea behind this recipe.

Even though we’re calling this recipe a breakfast-for-dinner hash, you certainly don’t have to eat it in the morning. This could be Sunday breakfast. It could be Sunday supper. It could be lunch. It could be a quick meal before heading out for the evening. It could even be something you prepare before the family heads out for Halloween trick-or-treating or a sports activity because nobody wants to send hungry kids out the door!

One of my favorite things about a Blackstone is that this kind of meal doesn’t have to happen in your kitchen. It can happen at home. It can happen at the campground. It can be part of a camping weekend. It can be tailgating food before the big game.

Put your ingredients in your cooler, fire up the griddle and you’ve got a meal that can feed the family without needing a full kitchen. And because everyone can customize their own serving, you don’t have to worry about making five completely different meals. Make the basic recipe. Then let everyone make it their way.

This recipe would also make a great homeschool cooking activity if Charlie was still in school. Cooking gives children an opportunity to practice measuring, following directions, kitchen safety and planning a meal.

You can talk about how ingredients change as they cook and let children help decide how they want to assemble their own meal. There’s also a great lesson hiding in the flexibility of this recipe:

One basic recipe doesn’t have to look the same on everyone’s plate. One person might make a burrito. Another might make a sandwich. Someone else might add cheese and salsa. And someone like me might keep everything separate and simply enjoy it as a meal. That’s real-life cooking.

Now I want to share where I think the Blackstone cookbooks become especially fun. They aren’t just cookbooks. They can become part of a gift basket or gift idea for someone who already owns a Blackstone — or someone who is getting one.

A Blackstone cookbook would make a great Christmas gift for someone receiving a new griddle. You could pair a cookbook with griddle accessories, seasonings or other outdoor-cooking goodies and create a whole Blackstone-themed gift. Which is what I am thinking of doing for David and Charlie.

Who says back-to-school gifts have to be pencils and notebooks? For a family that loves cooking together, a Blackstone cookbook could be a fun back-to-school or new-school-year gift, especially for a family that enjoys homeschool cooking.

Before summer disappears, why not give someone a cookbook that helps them keep the outdoor cooking going? The end of summer doesn’t have to mean the end of Blackstone season at least it doesn’t it my family we will use our Blackstone Grill year round.

And yes, I even think this could make a fun Halloween gift idea. Imagine making a hearty Blackstone meal before everyone heads out for trick-or-treating. Or put together a small cooking-themed gift for the person who loves their griddle. Halloween doesn’t always have to be candy! At least it doesn’t in my home.

I also want to share the actual Blackstone grill we use at our house because sometimes the best recommendation is simply saying, “This is the one we have.” That’s one of the things I love about sharing products on Greatful Moments. I’m not interested in telling you that you need every gadget under the sun. I’d rather tell you about the things we’re actually using and enjoying.

Print the Recipe!

And because I know many of us still like having an actual recipe in our kitchen, we’re turning our Blackstone Breakfast-for-Dinner Hash into a printable recipe card. You can keep it in your recipe binder, put it in your homeschool cooking folder, take it camping, or keep it with your Blackstone supplies.

The recipe is simple. The possibilities are endless. And most importantly, make it your way. Because around here, Down-Home Cooking isn’t about making everything exactly the same. It’s about putting good food on the table, gathering the people you love, and being grateful for the meal you’re sharing.

Blackstone Breakfast-for-Dinner Hash

One recipe. So many ways to make it your own.
Our family version: We keep things simple with crispy potatoes, bacon, sausage, eggs and onions. Some of us like cheese and salsa, while others don’t. Some like everything mixed together, while others prefer their food kept separate. That’s the beauty of this recipe — make it your way!

Ingredients

  • 4–5 medium potatoes, diced small
  • 6–8 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 small onion, diced (optional)
  • Cooking oil or griddle oil, as needed
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
Make It Your Way:
Our family doesn’t use peppers, but if your family likes them, add diced bell peppers. Add shredded cheese if you like cheese. Add salsa if that’s your thing. You can even add other vegetables or seasonings your family enjoys.

Directions

1. Cook the bacon. Preheat your Blackstone griddle. Cook the chopped bacon until it reaches your preferred crispness. Move it to a cooler area of the griddle.

2. Cook the potatoes. Add a little oil to the griddle and spread the diced potatoes across the cooking surface. Cook until golden and crispy, turning occasionally.

3. Add the sausage. Cook the breakfast sausage on the griddle, breaking it into bite-sized pieces as it cooks.

4. Add the onions. If you’re using onions, cook them alongside the potatoes and sausage until they’re softened and lightly browned.

5. Cook the eggs. Make a small space on the griddle and cook the eggs to your preferred doneness. Scrambled eggs work especially well for mixing into the hash.

6. Bring it all together — or don’t! Add the bacon back to the griddle and combine everything if that’s how you like it. Or keep the ingredients separate and let everyone build their own plate.

There is no single right way to make this recipe. Start with the basic ingredients and let everyone make their plate exactly the way they like it.

Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed.
