BJ’s Wholesale Club Comes to DFW: Do I Really Need Another Membership?

Sometimes a conversation with family sends you down a rabbit hole, and before you know it, you’re looking at a whole new store you hadn’t really considered before. Which is what happened to me the other day when David was finished talking to his mom. Which will lead me on a new adventure with David .

I have no, clue how mother-in-law found out about BJ’s Wholesale Club but her and my bother n law Mike went shopping there the other day. Sherry paid for a membership card which I’m not so sure she needed because she has a Sams Card and we go there all the time.

When David stopped by her home the other day she had David bring me there coupon booklet. As I began to look through the catalog David helped me understand what I was looking at, and naturally, I had questions. Because when wouldn’t I have questions?

First, I already have a Sam’s Club membership. Do I use it as much as I should? Probably not! Sometimes we go because we need something, and sometimes we go because the hot dogs and pizza are calling our names. You know how that goes.

So now I’m looking at BJ’s and wondering whether another warehouse club membership would make sense for our family. And since BJ’s has expanded into the Dallas-Fort Worth area, I thought other North Texas families might be asking the same question. I haven’t visited a BJ’s location yet, so consider this my introduction to the store and an invitation to explore it with me.

BJ’s Wholesale Club is a membership warehouse retailer where shoppers can find groceries, fresh meat, produce, bakery and deli items, household necessities, clothing, electronics, furniture, seasonal decorations, toys, and much more. The idea is familiar if you shop at Sam’s Club or Costco: buy what your household needs, look for value, and sometimes discover something you didn’t know you needed until you saw it.

One difference that caught my attention is BJ’s coupon program. Members can use BJ’s coupons along with many manufacturer coupons, which may provide another way to save. While exploring the website, I found departments for groceries, Halloween decorations, game-day essentials, toys, televisions and electronics, furniture, Christmas trees, gift cards, and services. That’s quite a bit more than a place to stock up on paper towels! One item caught my eye: the Berkley Jensen LED Pumpkins with Jack-O-Lantern Faces and Halloween-Themed Scenes, Set of 2.

The listing showed a price of $40.59, reduced from $69.99, with a 42% discount displayed. I love looking at seasonal decorations, especially when Halloween and Christmas are coming around. It’s fun to see what’s available and get ideas for making the house feel festive without buying every single thing that catches my eye.

Santa, You Might Want to Take a Look! BJ’s website was also advertising free shipping on toys through December 24. Offer terms and eligible items should be checked on the website, but it certainly made me think of Santa. As Santa loads up the sleigh this year, perhaps he should check out BJ’s selection first. It might be easier than asking the elves to make every single toy themselves!

I’m always interested in finding practical ways families can stretch their household budgets. Groceries, medicine-cabinet supplies, holiday gifts, and everyday necessities can add up quickly. Is BJ’s Cheaper Than Kroger? That’s one of the questions I want to explore.

While looking at ground beef, I came across a listing for Swift & Company 73% lean ground beef in a five-pound package. The price displayed to me was $17.99, with an additional 42% discount advertised in the cart. If that discount applied to the displayed price, the final price would be about $10.43, or approximately $2.09 per pound.

That looked promising compared with the Kroger online prices I found for comparable 73/27 ground beef. However, online prices and promotions can vary by location, and the BJ’s discount needs to be confirmed in the cart. I wouldn’t want to promise readers a price that might change before they shop.

Still, it got me thinking: if a family regularly buys meat, groceries, household supplies, and other essentials, could a warehouse club help them save enough to make the membership worthwhile? That’s the kind of comparison worth doing before paying for another membership.

Since I already have a Sam’s Club membership, I wanted to see how BJ’s compares with the other familiar warehouse clubs. Membership fees can change, so check each retailer’s official website for current prices and offers before joining. The standard membership tiers have generally been in a similar range, with higher-priced options offering additional rewards or benefits.

What interests me about BJ’s is the combination of its coupon program, groceries, seasonal merchandise, household products, and online shopping options. But here’s the thing: a membership is only a good deal if you use it. If I pay for another membership and rarely visit, I haven’t saved money. I’ve just added another expense to the household budget.

What Are the Store Hours? The official pages for the currently open Fort Worth, Grand Prairie, Waxahachie, and Forney clubs list these regular warehouse hours:

Monday through Saturday: 8 a.m.–10 p.m.
Sunday: 8 a.m.–9 p.m.

Gas-station hours may differ from warehouse hours. The Mesquite store is not yet listed as open, so its hours may be announced closer to opening. Since store details can change, it’s always a good idea to check the official location page before leaving home.

The most important question for Charlie and David is does BJ’s Have a Food Court? Now, this is an important question for my family! When David and Charlie go shopping, they’re likely to be thinking about food and drinks at some point. I know how these things work. We might head out to look around, and before long somebody will be hungry.

At Sam’s Club, the food counter is sometimes part of the reason we go. So I’m curious whether BJ’s has a similar concession stand with things like hot dogs, pizza, and drinks. I haven’t been able to confirm that for the DFW locations from the official information I reviewed. BJ’s lists bakery and deli services, but I don’t want to tell readers it has a food court unless we can verify it. But I also know that I need to be realistic. If I’m not going to use a membership often enough to justify the cost, it doesn’t matter how many tempting offers I see online.
