Have you ever used a telehealth service? It can really come in handy for parents! With a service like Amwell that can be used from your computer or smartphone, you can save money when you or your child needs to see a doctor. It’s definitely less expensive than visiting a hospital emergency room. The other night, for instance, Charlie decided he wanted to use my treadmill and instead of asking for help to get it down he did it himself. It ended up being too heavy, and he dropped it on the floor, hitting his shoulder and slicing his arm. I thought we needed to take him to the emergency room, but David didn’t think it was necessary. He was sure Charlie would be okay. Even though I hate to admit it, David was right. Charlie is okay. Knowing Amwell was available, however, gave me peace of mind, especially since I started to not feel well myself.

You see, I woke up with a horrible cough, sore throat, and a touch of fever on Thursday. I tried to wait it out until my throat hurt so horribly I couldn’t talk. I was beginning to think I might have strep throat, so I decided I would use Amwell. As I mentioned, Amwell is a telehealth company that is all online. All I had to do was go to the website and sign up to see a doctor. Amwell gives you several physicians to choose from, or you can select the first one available. I had them get me the primary available physician as I didn’t want to spend all day waiting for a doctor to help me.

I love knowing Amwell tells us how long it will be before the doctor is with us and that they keep checking back to make sure we are there. One thing I would like to let you know is that you may want to go ahead and check out the website and register and download the video so if there is an emergency in your household you will not waste time downloading it.

I looked through the list of doctors they picked for me, and I saw not only Medical Doctors but Pediatricians as well.

There were both men and women doctors for us to choose from. I liked knowing I can use Amwell in the daytime or nighttime as this is when Charlie seems to get sick the most. So, if he gets sick again, once I pull up the website, I can invite both Charlie and David over to the computer, and they will be able to help me chose which doctor we want Charlie to see.

I know this would make Charlie more comfortable as he hates going to the hospital. Plus,  it will allow us to not come into contact with people who are sick and might make Charlie sicker. This has happened in the past when we had to go to the emergency room, and we certainly don’t want it to happen again.

I spoke to the doctor, Amwell had me see, and I didn’t feel like he was rushing me in and out. I could tell this doctor wasn’t in a hurry to move on to the next patient. He was very interested in what I had to say. He wanted to make sure I understood what he told me to do. Before he closed the website, he asked me if I had any other concerns. I let him know I didn’t. Although, I can tell you if one of us gets sick that I would want to see this physician in the future.

Another thing I liked about the visit being in our home is both of us can be with Charlie if he needs to see a doctor. This makes me feel more comfortable as I hate going into the emergency room where only one of us is allowed to be in the room with him. It’s usually me, which leaves David wondering what is happening. By using Amwell both David and I get to be a part of Charlie’s health care.

 

Now you might be wondering what would happen if you were given a prescription. The doctor from Amwell would write it out and send it to the pharmacy of your choice. You can select your pharmacy of choice when you register. I liked that they pulled up a list so I could find the one that was closet to my home and they had the one we usually use listed.

As far as the rate goes, the price of the visit was a lot lower than an emergency room and something I can afford at any time. Amwell will accept insurance. So, once David gets his personal insurance, I plan on Checking to see if they take his particular plan.
