On Wednesday morning I got up early and was on Facebook when I saw Black Rifle Coffee Company on Rufe Snow was closing. Charlie was sleeping and I needed to run errands. I finished the article I was working on. Then I let David know I was leaving. he asked me to wait for him to take the dogs out.
Then we went and got into Charlie’s car and I reminded David I needed to find a Gift for my best friend Debbie. We decided to go see what time the stores on Rufe Snow opened over by Walmart and Winco. I was cold and thirsty and David asked if I wanted to stop for a drink and I said no, because I was waiting to surprise David when we got on Rufe Snow.
This is why a simple trip to the grocery store turns into a memory you didn’t know you needed. That is exactly what happened when David and I visited Black Rifle Coffee Company on Rufe Snow Drive in North Richland Hills, Texas when I went into Winco to go grocery shopping.
I had seen a post on Facebook about Black Rifle Coffee Company closing some of its local stores, and when I realized the location practically in our backyard was among those closing, I knew I wanted to stop by. Their last day of business is scheduled for November 8, 2026, according to what we were told during our visit.
As much as I hate seeing small businesses close, especially those right here in our neighborhood, I wanted to support this veteran-founded coffee company while we still had the opportunity. And since David and I were already planning a trip to WinCo, my go-to grocery store, it seemed like the perfect time to surprise him.
We needed to go grocery shopping at WinCo but when we got on Rufe Snow I asked David to pull into the shopping center where Black Rifle Coffee Company was on Rufe Snow Drive, in the shopping center with MOD Pizza, near Walmart and across from WinCo.
When we pulled up, I told David to hold on because I wanted to run into the shopping center. Knowing David I’m sure he thought I was going to get a menu from MOD Pizza because he had been wanting pizza. But I had something else in mind! I asked him, “How would you like a cup of coffee?”
Then I explained that this was one time I wasn’t going to gripe or fuss about what a cup of coffee cost. I wanted to go inside and support the business because it was closing. Before I could even finish talking, David was out the door and heading inside before I could even get out of the car.
As we walked toward the entrance, I pointed to the sign identifying Black Rifle Coffee Company as veteran-owned. David immediately connected with that. He told me it was like having a cup of coffee for his dad or Mike and even my dad because they are veterans, too. I told him yes, that was exactly part of why I wanted us to stop.
Sometimes supporting a local business is about more than the product you purchase. It’s about the people behind it, the community around it, and the reasons that make a place special to someone. Its also why I would like to bring Charlie here before they close but if it isn’t possible we can still shop online and look for other locations around us.
When we walked inside, we saw that the merchandise was marked 50% off. That stopped us in our tracks a little. It was sad to see such a cute little business in a convenient shopping center preparing to close its doors. But if I’d had extra money I would have been Christmas Shopping because Santa and David are going to need Coffee when they begin filling the Sleigh and this is why you will find Black Rifle Coffee Company inside our Christmas Gift Guide/ Wish List.
Black Rifle Coffee Company describes its business as sourcing high-quality coffee beans, blending and roasting them, and shipping them directly to customers. The company also sells coffee and merchandise online, so coffee lovers can continue exploring its products even when a particular storefront closes.
But there is something different about walking into a neighborhood coffee shop yourself. You get to see the space, meet the employees, smell the coffee, and enjoy a few moments away from your usual errands. And this shop had something I absolutely loved.
When I looked around, I noticed the beautiful leather chairs inside. They reminded me of the kind of chairs you would find in a library, and I have always wanted a library with chairs just like those. All that was missing was a fireplace! A blanket and Pheobie and Charlie.
There was even a little bookshelf with books nearby. If you know me, you can probably imagine how easily I could have spent the day sitting there, looking through the books and enjoying the surroundings. But I was good I drank my Coffee and headed out to finish my errands.
Outside, there was a beautiful little patio that would have been a lovely place to sit, too. But I wanted to stay inside and enjoy those comfortable chairs. I could picture myself meeting my girlfriends there, visiting over coffee, and spending time together. Honestly, I could picture myself sitting there even if I wasn’t drinking coffee.
Sometimes you walk into a place and immediately feel comfortable. That was my experience here. I don’t always feel that way when I go into coffee shops. David and Charlie are more adventurous with their coffee orders, while I tend to keep things simple. I sometimes feel out of place when I don’t know what to order or what all the different drinks are.
That wasn’t how I felt at Black Rifle Coffee Company. A lot of that had to do with the woman helping us at the counter. When the employee asked what I wanted, I told her I wanted a small cup of black coffee with cream and sugar. Now, before you get confused, I like my coffee with more cream and sugar than actual coffee!
She smiled and asked how many sugar packets I wanted. I told her I usually use six to eight, although I wasn’t exactly sure how many I would need. She said we would start with six and that there were more available if I needed them. I appreciated that. She didn’t make me feel silly for ordering my coffee the way I like it.
Meanwhile, David was working on his own order. He was talking with her about the different drinks, and I overheard her explaining one option and mentioning that it was tea. I had to jump in and tell David, “No, that’s a tea, not a coffee!” After all, I’m the tea drinker in our family, not David.
She continued explaining the choices, and then she mentioned caramel. That caught my attention. “That’s it!” I told David. “It’s caramel. It’s what Charlie would like!” David looked at me as if to ask what I was talking about, but I knew our son would probably enjoy a caramel-flavored coffee drink. David decided to give it a try, and the employee prepared his drink with whipped cream on top.
Of course, I couldn’t let that whipped cream go to waste. David walked back over to me with his drink, and I held out my hand. He looked at me and asked, “What?” “I need some of that!” I had to snag a little of his whipped cream because, if you know me, you know I’m a whipped cream eater. Then David tasted his coffee.
He absolutely loved it. The flavor was blended beautifully, and there weren’t any big chunks of ice. He let me taste it, too, and I thought it was really good. It was a little sweeter than I usually prefer, which is saying something because I have a sweet tooth! David enjoyed his drink, and I enjoyed watching him discover something new. That was part of the fun of our visit.
What I appreciated most about our visit was the way the employee treated us. She took the time to explain the drinks, answer our questions, and help David decide what he wanted. She made me feel comfortable asking questions instead of making me feel as if I should already know everything about ordering specialty coffee.
That might seem like a small thing, but it matters. When you walk into a business, you want to feel welcome. You want to feel like you belong there, whether you are ordering a complicated coffee creation or a simple cup of black coffee with enough sugar to make your dentist nervous.
I left feeling that Black Rifle Coffee Company was a place where I could bring my girlfriends, sit in those lovely chairs, and enjoy some conversation. I only wish I had discovered that feeling sooner but its okay because after trying the Coffee I know David will want to purchase some for the house.
Black Rifle Coffee Company was founded by veterans and built around a love of coffee and support for the military community. For David, seeing the veteran connection gave our visit an extra layer of meaning because of our own family connections to veterans.
The company offers coffee, drinks, and branded merchandise, including items customers may want to purchase as gifts. Its website also allows customers to explore coffee offerings beyond the individual storefronts. I saw several items I would like to put in David and Charlie’s stockings.
During our visit, the North Richland Hills store had merchandise marked 50% off as part of its closing sale. Some of the items included bags of coffee, which caught my attention because I am already thinking about Christmas stocking stuffers for David and Charlie.
I may have to go back and see what coffee I can find for them. But there was another item on the counter that caught my eye. While we were there, I noticed a can on the counter labeled “America’s Coffee” and “Medusa’s Mint Premium Coffee Pouches.” They looked so unusual that I couldn’t help but laugh a little. I immediately started thinking about Charlie and how much fun it would be to put some in his Christmas stocking.
The container is like a ol, fashion snugg can taking me back to high school when all the guys walked around wth a can of Coppenhagen in there wranglers. I want to go back and get a closer look at them before the store closes. I can’t wait to see what Charlie thinks!
And now you can see how one little coffee stop can turn into Christmas shopping. I went in to support a local business and came out with ideas for gifts, a new coffee experience for David, and a place I wish we had visited sooner. That’s how it goes around here sometimes which is how I know the LORD is leading this blogging journey while keeping me grateful, thankful and blessed for small based businesses.
The North Richland Hills Black Rifle Coffee Company location last day of business would be November 8, 2026. If you have been wanting to try it, or if you are already a customer, please check with the store about its remaining hours and closing-sale merchandise before making a special trip.
I’d love to bring Charlie and Bradley by before the doors close so he can experience the shop for himself. David enjoyed his caramel coffee, I enjoyed my simple cup of coffee and whipped cream, and we both appreciated the employee who made us feel welcome.
I hate seeing a business close, especially one that sits right in our neighborhood. It makes you think about all the places we drive past while we’re busy with errands and how easy it is to tell ourselves we will stop another day. Sometimes another day comes, and sometimes it doesn’t. I’m thankful we made the time to visit this one.
If you stop by, take a look around, enjoy a drink, and see what merchandise is still available. You may even find a few Christmas gifts while you’re there. And if you see those leather chairs, you’ll know where I would like to sit! You can also visit the company’s website to explore its coffee and merchandise online. The North Richland Hills location is closing, but Black Rifle Coffee Company has other locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
As for me, I’m wishing the employees all the best as they move on to their next adventures. I hope wonderful opportunities are waiting for each of them. And, as I always remind myself, it’s all in God’s hands. Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed to have experienced this amazing shop.
