I don’t know about you but I’ve always tried to make both #Birthdays and #Holidays special in my house for David and Charlie. But more times than not when it comes to my Birthday its just another day to them. I got up this morning and David is home and hasn’t even said anything to me.
I know he has been busy with the dogs but still he walked out of our bedroom and could have said good morning, happy birthday but he didn’t. Then I checked my phone to see if there was a message from Charlie since he wasn’t coming home and of course there isn’t.
My mother in law did call and I am grateful for that but it would be nice if David and Charlie said something. But its okay I have plans this morning and work to do. I’m just going to put my head down and work and get things done so later I can go to Mardel’s and Hobby Lobby to find something for my mother in laws Birthday on the 11th. Without dad here this year I want to make it special for her.
Welcome to November 4th, my birthday! Another year older, another year wiser (at least that’s what I’m telling myself), and another opportunity to wake up and see what the Lord has planned for me. If you not busy today would you like to sneak away later for a slice of cake somewhere?
It’s pretty outside this morning, although a little chilly, so I turned on the heater. The doggies have already been outside, and I’m settling in with my cup of chocolate milk before getting started on today’s reviews. Sitting nearby are the Three Musketeers mini bars David picked up for me. I’m trying to convince myself that I don’t need one this early in the morning. LOL! We all know how that might turn out.
I also have my new Home Breeze Lavender Cedarleaf Linen and Room Spray. David picked it up for me at the Dollar Store yesterday. It has a little lock on the bottle, which I thought was pretty neat. It wasn’t an extravagant gift, but it was a little something that said, “I was thinking of you, which was nice”.
And sometimes those are the gifts that mean the most. David is off again today, and I believe we’re going to make a trip to the Family Dollar Store because I need a Garden Flag and signs to put out for Thanksgiving. David said I could shop online and Charlie told me which store to check last night but you all know how I feel about shopping online it isn’t going to happen. Or is it this time?
I’ll be honest with you. Today is a little bittersweet. This is the first birthday when neither of my children is here to celebrate with me or even send me a birthday wish first thing in the morning. As you all know Suzzane is in Heaven and on days like today I miss her more than anyone knows.
I thought I would have woken up to a message from Charlie, or perhaps a phone call. But I also know he has been busy with Mikalyia and her family, and as I shared yesterday, he decided to extend his stay and won’t be home until Monday which is what I figured would happen but wasn’t ready to hear.
Last year, he wasn’t home for his birthday when he turned 18. This year, he isn’t home for mine. Now, I wonder if he will even be here for his Birthday and Christmas next month. I suppose these are some of the things we have to learn to navigate as mothers.
Our children grow up, make their own plans, and begin building lives outside the home. We’re proud of them, and we want them to spread their wings. But that doesn’t mean we don’t miss them. Sometimes a mama just wants her kids home for her birthday. And today, that’s me. And if I’m being selfish I don’t care but I am angry because he knew I had been counting on him to be home and so was his dad.
Yesterday, I finished reading my Danielle Steel book, Weddings. I enjoyed having that little reading routine, and I’m looking forward to getting more reading done today, God willing the creek don’t rise. I just need to decide what book I want to start or should I go and pick up the newest Danille Steel book as a Birthday present to myself?
Tonight, I’m taking myself to B&B Theatres for Friends trivia! It’s free, and I decided I wanted to go. Sometimes we have to make our own birthday plans and give ourselves permission to enjoy something just because we want to. Would you want to come with me because it would be a lot more fun with a friend or two.
I have plenty of reviews and articles to work on today, including a children’s book review of Dogs Can Dance: Mix and Match, A Parade of Presents and Pups by Naomi Tipping. I thought this would be something Charlie would enjoy, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with you.
I can already feel myself starting to get a little overwhelmed, so I’m reminding myself to slow down, take breaks, and enjoy the day. I’, also reminding myself to remaGrateful, Thankful, and Blessed for the new year the LORD is bringing me which I appreciate.
I woke up to birthday messages on Facebook, and I’. so grateful for everyone who took the time to send one. I also woke up to a few emails this morning. Those little moments are always special to me. Sometimes the Lord sends us reminders when we least expect them, and I like to think of those as little Godwinks.
I don’t know where today will lead. I don’t know what we’ll have for dinner, what we’ll find while shopping, or what other surprises might be waiting around the corner. But you know what? That’s okay. It’s all in the Lord’s hands no, matter what happens today I have my friends and family and our pets and that’s all I need.
As I begin another year, I want to thank you for visiting Greatful Moments and allowing our family to share a little piece of our lives with you. Whether you’re here for our book reviews, family stories, recipes, local adventures, gift guides, or just a little encouragement, please know that we appreciate you.
We’re grateful you’re here, and we hope you know that we’re here for you, too, whenever you need us. So today, I’m going to enjoy my chocolate milk, try not to eat all those Three Musketeers, spend a little time with David, work on a few reviews, and hopefully have some fun at trivia tonight.
I hope your Wednesday is beautiful, blessed, and filled with little reminders of just how much you have to be thankful for. Until next time, remember to stay Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed! If there is anything you need please let me know and I will try my best to help you.
Grateful. Thankful. Blessed.
