Madam C.J. Walker

Celebrate Black History Month

This morning I would like to share a Entrepreneur with you. Madam C.J. Walker created specialized hair products for African American hair care. Not only that C/J/ Walker was one of the first American women to become a self-made millionaire.

She created these products after losing her own hair to a Scalp Ailment that caused her to go bald. After creating the products she traveled around the giving lecture-demonstrations.

Madame C.J. Walker created Laboratories to manufacture cosmetics and train sales beauticians.

She donated money toward the construction of an Indianapolis YMCA in 1913

Walker’s life was portrayed in the 2020 TV show Self Made, with  Octavia Spencer portraying Walker. Before you ask no, I haven’t seen the show but I plan on looking for it for Charlie and I to watch.

C.J. Walker was born on a Cotton Plantation on December 23, 1867 in Delta, Louisiana. C.J.’s parents, Owen and Minerva, were enslaved and recently freed, and Sarah, who was their fifth child, was the first in her family to be free-born

Her mom died in 1874 and her day a year later leaving her a orphan at 7. She went to live with one of her sisters and brother in laws. As she had 5 sisters and brothers.

C.J. Walker is a American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and political and social activist.

If you were to look inside  Guinness Book of World Records you will find out C.J. Walker is the first female self-made millionaire in America.
