Baked Cinnamon Apple Crisp

Now, that Thanksgiving has passed I thought we might all want a night to rest and relax before we begin preparing for Christmas. For us that will be a Movie Night and I wanted to share a recipe Charlie and I plan on making this evening. It’s a Baked Cinnamon Apple Crisp with Vanilla Ice Cream. Would you like to join us for Dessert and Movie night this evening?

Baked Cinnamon Apple Crisp

One taste of this delicious dessert and you’ve won’t believe it is both Gluten and Refined Sugar Free. The addition of fresh Thyme adds a subtle savory note to the otherwise sweet flavor profile of this classic recipe.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups thinly sliced peeled tart Apples
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose Flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground Cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons Butter

Topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose Flour
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup cold Butter, cubed
  • 1 large Egg, lightly beaten
  • Vanilla Ice Cream, optional

  1. Combine Apples, Sugar, Flour and Cinnamon in a large bowl. Transfer to an 11×7-in. baking dish; dot with Butter.
  2. For the topping, combine Flour, Sugar, Baking Powder and Nutmeg in another large bowl. Cut in Butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in a Egg just until moistened; sprinkle over filling.
  3. Bake, uncovered, at 375° for 40-45 minutes or until topping is Golden Brown and Apples are tender. Serve warm with Vanilla Bean Ice cream or Whipped Cream.
