What made the United States enter World War I? Some say it was the sinking of the Lusitania. On May 7, 1915, the British passenger vessel was hit by a torpedo from German U-boat. Born during this week in 1884 was the 33rd President of the United States, Harry Truman. Recognizing that the U.S. government was slow to end segregation, and extremely embarrassed by it, in 1948 he ordered an end to segregation in the military.
