Pugicorn to the Rescue! (Magic Pet Shop Adventures #1) A Magical New Adventure for Your Christmas Gift/ Wish List

Charlie is out of town until Tuesday and David is working late this evening. I wanted to share a new children’s chapter book I enjoyed reading which was Magic Pet Shop Adventures Pugicorn to the Rescue by Matida Rose and Tim Budgen I can’t wait to share with my nieces and nephews and grandson Elijah.

For my family some books just make us smile before you even turn the first page, and Pugicorn to the Rescue! did exactly that for me! When I first picked up this beautiful hardcover book, I immediately fell in love with the red glittery cover, the gorgeous stars, and the adorable little puppy with a rainbow tail and a unicorn horn. Just look at that little face! Laughing out loud. Who wouldn’t want a Pugicorn of their own?

I had never heard of authors Matilda Rose or illustrator Tim Budgen before receiving this advance copy, but I’m always happy to discover new children’s books and introduce our readers to something they might not have found otherwise. And this one is definitely worth discovering!

In the book the Author helps us discover the fairy-tale world of Magic Pet Shop Adventures, a magical chapter book series where enchanting animals find their forever homes. I don’t know about you but that makes me very happy to know they are findng there homes.

Princess Ava loves helping at Miss Paws’ Magic Pet Shop. After all, Miss Paws helped her find her very own magical best friend, Pugicorn! I wish I could visit the pet shop and I know Charlie and David would like to as well. How about you and your family would you like to visit the pet shop?

Princess Ava and Pugicorn are happy to lend a hand when Miss Paws needs a break. Along with their new friend Finn, they’re excited to help other children adopt magical animals and get a group of baby flutterbuns ready to go home. But when one of the flutterbuns goes missing, it’s up to Princess Ava and Pugicorn to find her and save the day! Oh no! I wonder what’s going to happen? But no, I’m not going to tell you. You’ll have to read the book yourself!

And isn’t the name of their fairy-tale home just the funniest thing? Twinkle Town Underbeanstalks! Wouldn’t you like to live there? I know I wouldn’t mind visiting, especially if I could spend the afternoon helping at a magical pet shop. David might need to watch Charlie or I becuase we might try and bring all the animals home.

One of the things I really appreciate about this book is how it’s put together. There are eight chapters and 86 pages, with beautiful full-color illustrations throughout that I enjoyed looking at. There’s even a map at the beginning that introduces readers to the magical world and helps them discover what’s waiting for them.

The chapters are short enough for little children to read and not get bored with. The story is engaging, and the illustrations make it even more enjoyable. Although the publisher recommends this book for children ages six to eight, I can see younger readers enjoying it with an adult and older children enjoying reading it independently and even adults like the story a lot.

Charlie and David were both able to pick up the book and enjoy reading it on their own. Charlie did have one observation, though. He wanted to know why there weren’t more boys in the story. Shouldn’t there be boys, too? Apparently, girls had cooties when he was little! Laughing out loud. Sometimes they still do he said. LOL

Thankfully, that hasn’t stopped him from enjoying a story about a magical puppy who happens to have a unicorn horn! And I know my niece Lily would enjoy this book, especially with all the princesses, magical animals, and glittery fun. Like me Lily would want to bring the Pugicorn home because we both love Unicorns and rainbows.

I’m always looking for books that encourage children to make reading part of their everyday routine, and Pugicorn to the Rescue! is a wonderful fit for our10-Minute Reading Challenge and it is a book I will make sure Santa is loading on the S

With eight short chapters, children can sit down and enjoy a little reading time without feeling overwhelmed by a lengthy book.

Whether it’s ten minutes before bedtime, a quiet afternoon, or a little reading time during the holidays, this is the type of book that encourages children to keep turning the pages.

And remember, reading doesn’t stop when Christmas is over!

Make It a Magical Christmas Gift!

If you’re looking for something different to put under the Christmas tree, why not purchase the first two books in the Magic Pet Shop Adventures series and create a little gift basket?

Here’s what I would include:

  • The first two Magic Pet Shop Adventures books.
  • A cozy blanket.
  • Some favorite snacks.
  • A few packets of hot chocolate.
  • Perhaps a stuffed puppy or another little magical pet.

Wrap everything up in a basket, and on Christmas Eve, let the children climb underneath the Christmas tree, snuggle up in their blankets, make some hot chocolate, and enjoy a little reading adventure while waiting for Santa! You could even make it a family tradition.

And here’s another idea!- Since books three and four are scheduled to arrive in May 2027, you could purchase the first two books for Christmas and include a little gift card or homemade certificate promising the next two adventures when they become available. That gives children something else to look forward to in the new year, just in time for summer reading!

Pugicorn to the Rescue! is the first book in the Magic Pet Shop Adventures series.

The second adventure, Pugicorn’s Sleepover Surprise, gives readers another opportunity to visit this magical world. And wouldn’t it be fun to read that one while hosting an actual sleepover with your children? Books three and four are expected in May 2027, with more adventures waiting for Princess Ava, Pugicorn, and their friends. I also love that the back of the book gives readers a little glimpse of what’s coming next. It’s a wonderful way to get children excited about continuing the series.

I love discovering books that families can enjoy together, and this is one of those books that offers more than just a story. It encourages imagination, kindness, helping others, finding forever homes for animals, and enjoying the magic of reading. Yes, there are princesses, but don’t let that fool you into thinking boys won’t enjoy this adventure, too!

So, if you’re shopping for the little ones on your Christmas list, I hope you’ll take a moment to discover the Magic Pet Shop Adventures series. I’ll certainly be reminding Santa, as we’re loading up his sleigh, to make sure he has plenty of these books to hand out as he delivers Christmas gifts!

Merry Christmas to you and your family! And remember, reading happens all year long. Books like these aren’t just for Christmas morning. They’re books children can enjoy throughout the holidays, into the new year, and even during summer vacation.

Happy Reading, and may your days always be grateful, thankful, and blessed!
