Day 1: Father Knows Best – “Thanksgiving Day” | 27 Days, 27 Family Nights

I don’t know about you but I survived #Halloween and I’ve excited to move into November so help me welcome in a new month because I am living with faith not fear this month. I hope you’re ready because we’re kicking off something fun here at Greatful Moments.

Today is November 1st, and we’re beginning our 27 Days, 27 Family Nights: Movies, Classic Sitcoms & Thanksgiving Specials countdown! Everywhere I look I was seeing Halloween moves and shows and then they wanted to move on to Christmas but I didn’t want to leave #Thanksgiving out.

Then my family decided fgor the next 27 days, we’ll be sharing a different movie, classic television episode, cartoon, or Thanksgiving special for families to enjoy together. Some selections may bring back memories for parents and grandparents, while others might introduce younger family members to shows they’ve never watched before.

We’re starting with a television classic from 1954! Yes, you heard me right 1954 a time when the Dinosaurs would have roamed the Earth as Charlie likes to say. Grab your favorite drink and blanket and join me as we watch a episode of Father Knows Best which you can watch on Tubi.

Day 1: Father Knows Best – “Thanksgiving Day”– Season 1, Episode 8

If you’ve never watched Father Knows Best, you’re in for a little trip back in television history. The show follows Jim Anderson, played by Robert Young, his wife Margaret, and their three children, Betty, Bud, and Kathy. Let me tell you Kathy and Bud can be pieces of work at times but its what makes this show fun to watch.

In this Thanksgiving episode, Jim is especially proud when he discovers that his youngest daughter, Kathy, has written the winning Thanksgiving poem in her fourth-grade class. Of course, being a proud dad, Jim gets a little carried away with his excitement! He imagines great things for Kathy and plans a special Thanksgiving celebration.

But when he hears the poem, his reaction isn’t quite what Kathy hoped for. As Thanksgiving Day arrives, the family’s plans begin to fall apart, and Jim learns that sometimes the most important thing isn’t having the perfect celebration. It’s making things right with the people you love. Which is hard to do but its something we all need to do because tomorrow isn’t promised.

This episode originally aired November 21, 1954, and runs approximately 25 minutes. That makes it a nice choice for a family evening when you don’t have time for a full-length movie. Turn the show on and grab some Popcorn and spend time with those you love.

You can look for Father Knows Best, Season 1, Episode 8, “Thanksgiving Day” on Tubi through Shout! Factory TV and on Peacock. Streaming availability can change, so check your service before settling in. Before you say not another Streaming service we need to pay for no, Tubi is free. Thank the LORD for that.

After watching tonight’s episode, ask everyone:

  • Have you ever worked hard on something and hoped someone would love it?
  • What makes a Thanksgiving celebration special?
  • Would you rather have a fancy Thanksgiving dinner or a simple meal with everyone you love?

And if the younger members of your family have never watched Father Knows Best, I’d love to know what they think!

Tomorrow we’ll be back with Day 2 of our countdown as we continue our journey through classic television and Thanksgiving entertainment. Don’t forget to check off today’s selection on your 27 Days, 27 Family Nights printable! Here’s to a November filled with laughter, family time, and a few wonderful television memories.
