Ready to Be Scared? Meet Dark Hour Haunted House in Plano, Texas

Life is funny I found a event I thought Charlie and David and the boys would enjoy but it’s owned by the people who own this #HauntedHouse which I do not part of no, how. Charlie is like me but he did say he might go in one just once with his friends but with his panic attacks and ocd I don’t know how well that would work.

But there are some people like Bradley and Ghost who want to spend Halloween looking for Bigfoot and learning about mysterious creatures. Other people want to walk into a dark room, hear something growling behind them, and wonder why on earth they paid money to be scared half to death!

That second group may want to put Dark Hour Haunted House in Plano, Texas, on their Halloween list. As for Charlie and I we will send David with Ghost and Bradley then Charlie and I will stand outside and wait for them. Otherwise I might never sleep again. How about you?

This Haunted House is owned by husband-and-wife team Allen and Shannon Hopps, Dark Hour is an immersive haunted attraction known for its elaborate sets, terrifying creatures, theatrical effects, and unexpected scares. Allen is the creative force behind much of the creature design and fabrication, with the team creating its own monsters, props, and environments.

The Hoppses also own the North American Cryptid Museum, which occupies the same address. Although the two attractions share their love of strange creatures and detailed environments, they are not the same experience. The museum explores folklore and legendary creatures in a fright-free setting. Dark Hour is for people who actually want the scares.

Dark Hour invites visitors into a world of theatrical sets, creepy creatures, dramatic lighting, sound effects, and surprises around unexpected corners. For the 2026 season, the attraction advertises more animatronics, a growing goblin horde, and new areas including Medusa’s Lair and the Strega Chamber.

This isn’t simply a walk past a few Halloween decorations. Dark Hour builds an entire environment around its stories, with its artists and technicians creating the details that make the experience feel like stepping into another world. The attraction is indoors and air-conditioned, and it operates rain or shine. On busy nights, part of the waiting line may be outdoors.

When Is Dark Hour Open in 2026? The 2026 season began September 19 and runs on select nights through November 13. Dark Hour is not open every night, so visitors should check the calendar before making plans.

How Much Do Tickets Cost?– Published event listings show a price range of $39 to $110, depending on the ticket and experience selected. That is a range, not one flat admission price, so check the ticket options for your chosen date before budgeting.

At the lower end of that published range, three tickets at $39 each would total $117 before any additional expenses. For families watching their grocery budget, that is worth knowing before planning the outing. Tickets are available online and may also be available at the attraction. Buying ahead is a good idea, particularly for a popular date such as Halloween.

How Long Should You Plan to Stay?– Dark Hour says the haunted walk-through usually takes about 20–30 minutes, plus time waiting in the themed queue. Plan for approximately 60–90 minutes overall. VIP experiences take around 90 minutes and include a private VIP room with scare stations and two trips through the attraction, with the benefit of skipping the regular line. Check the official ticket page for current VIP pricing and details.

Who Is Dark Hour Haunted House For? Dark Hour is best suited to horror fans, adults, and older teens who enjoy intense Halloween experiences, frightening creatures, jump scares, and theatrical horror. It may not be a good fit for young children or anyone who dislikes being startled or spending time in a dark, frightening environment. Parents know their own children best, so consider their comfort level before purchasing tickets. For families who want a gentler way to explore mysterious creatures, the North American Cryptid Museum offers a different experience at the same address.

Allen and Shannon Hopps have created two ways for visitors to explore their fascination with monsters and the unexplained. At Dark Hour, the goal is to deliver a frightening Halloween adventure. At the North American Cryptid Museum, the goal is to explore legends and creatures without the haunted-house scares.

If you’re deciding which one fits your family, start with what everyone enjoys—and what your budget allows. You can read our separate feature about the North American Cryptid Museum to learn more about that alternative. As always, check the attraction’s official website for the latest dates, hours, and ticket prices before heading out.
