I always taught Charlie and Suzzane when leaving the house to speak to everyone you come into contact with because kindness goes along ways. I wanted to ask you this morning if you’ve ever smiled at a stranger, said hello to someone walking past you, or taken a moment to ask someone how their day was going?
Or you see a Fireman, Policeman or someone from the Military and you take the time to thank them for there service? This is something I’ve taught my children to do since the time they could walk and talk and now David does the same thing and even like Charlie he opens the door for strangers. For this I’,m grateful. thankful and blessed.
Although, sometimes we get so busy with our own lives that we forget the people around us might need a little kindness, too. I’m not a doctor, and I’m certainly not going to tell you I can fix everybody’s problems. I can’t. None of us can. But what I can do is be kind to everyone.
I can smile at someone. I can say hello. I can take a moment to listen. And maybe, just maybe, that little bit of kindness will bring a smile to someone else’s face. You never know what somebody is going through behind closed doors. The person walking beside you might be having the hardest day of their life. They might feel lonely, forgotten, or as if nobody notices them. What if you’re the person who reminds them that they’re not invisible?
Today is Make New Friends Day, and I have a simple challenge for you: step outside your comfort zone. Smile at your neighbor. Talk to someone new. Offer a kind word to the cashier or the person sitting alone. You don’t have to become best friends. You don’t have to solve anybody’s problems. Just be willing to show a little kindness.
And why not be like Dolly today? Dolly Parton has long been admired for her generosity, warm spirit, and the way she uses her success to help others. We may not all have Dolly’s resources, but we can all share a little of the kindness she reminds us to celebrate just like Suzzane did when she was here.
Remember a smile doesn’t cost anything. A hello takes only a moment. And a little compassion can make somebody feel seen. So today, let’s put down our phones for a moment, look up, and notice the people around us. You never know. The stranger you greet today might become a dear friend tomorrow. And even if they don’t, you might have made their day a little brighter.
You don’t have to change the whole world. Sometimes, you just have to make one person’s world a little brighter.
Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed.
