For the first time in a long time I was able to get Charlie and David to agree to go to the movies with me. All I had to say was Bettlejuice.. and they were ready to go before I could even tell them the day and time we was going or much less which Theater we would be attending the movie in.
For my family some of my favorite memories are the ones I get to make with my family, especially when we get to share something David and I enjoyed growing up with Charlie. And last night, we got to do just that when David, Charlie, Bradley, and I headed to Denton to see Beetlejuice on the big screen!
Now, David wasn’t exactly thrilled about taking Bradley along, but we all went together, and I’m so glad we did. Because Bradley is one of our children and we’ve always taken him to the movies with us especially when its a movie we’ve watched at home and we all loved and that is what we’d done with Bettlejuice.
We saw the movie at 7 p.m. at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Denton. A lot of times when we attend movies here we go to Movie Viewing Parties but last night it was a regular movie screening rather than the movie watch party I had originally hoped to attend, but we still had a wonderful time. You can learn more about the movie through the Beetlejuice movie page on IMDb.
Charlie has loved Beetlejuice since he was knee-high to a fly. I’m pretty sure he was only about two years old when he started watching it, and it has remained one of his all-time favorite movies. At least once during Halloween Charlie and I sit down and watch it and if he knows a friend who hasn’t seen it he invites them to watch it with us.
When we were homeschooling, we even used Beetlejuice as part of a study. That’s one of the things I love about homeschooling: you can take something your child already enjoys and turn it into an opportunity to learn together. Which has inspired Charlie’s love of classic movies.
David and I grew up enjoying these kinds of shows and movies, so getting to share those classics with Charlie makes them even more special. It’s one thing to watch an old favorite by yourself, but it’s something else entirely to sit beside your child and see him enjoy it just as much as you did.
And when the movie ended, Charlie was practically bursting with excitement. “Mom, I loved it! I loved it!” Bradley loved it, too! The fun part was on the ride home when Charlie said if I find it playing again they wanted to go back and watch it and take there friends. It looks like were going to be hosting a Beetlejuice watch party in my home soon. We just gotta make sure no, one says Beetlejuice three times so he doesn’t come and visit but Charlie said he wishes he would.
Seeing Charlie grin from ear to ear was one of my favorite parts of the whole evening. I haven’t seen that particular smile in a long time, and being able to take my son to see one of his favorite movies on the big screen was worth the trip all by itself. I saw him laugh and a little bit of my old Charlie before the last year happened and to me that was a Godsend.
There was another part of the evening that meant just as much to me as the movie. Charlie understands how important these events are to me. I reminded him that we needed to take pictures and that I wanted everyone to dress up a little. And let me tell you, both boys were dressed to the nines, and David was, too! Nobody argued about pictures. Nobody complained about stopping to pose. We just had fun being together.
As a mom, I want those pictures. I want to remember the places we visit, the things we do together, and the way we looked when we went out for a special evening. I want those memories to be there for us to look back on years from now. Seeing Charlie understand that and join in without a fuss made me proud. We were all dressed up, enjoying ourselves, and making memories together. Sometimes it’s those little things that make a mom’s heart happy.
I even placed Charlie way up at the top of the theater because he likes sitting up there, while David and I sat about halfway back. Our seats worked out perfectly! It almost felt like David and I were on a date night while the boys were hanging out and enjoying their own evening. Yet we were all together, sharing the same experience.
The boys didn’t even ask for snacks knowing we had to watch money this week but Charlie missed his Pizza and drink he likes to get . David and I missed our Popcorn & Drinks which I wish we had but that just means we need to return to the Theater more often so we can have the snacks we enjoy. That’s my kind of family night.
Since, Charlie and Bradley were sitting next to me I found myself singing and dancing to Day-O, Day-O! And Nobody Told Me to Be Quiet! Not even David because he knows better. For me one of the funniest parts of watching Beetlejuice is how the music gets into your head. Even this morning I’m still singing it.
The actors are absolutely amazing, and the movie is just plain fun. I loved how they shared other movies he was in before the movie began. I love being able to sit back, laugh, sing along in my head (or a little out loud!), and enjoy a story without taking everything so seriously.
I am not a horror-movie fan. I don’t like gore, and I certainly don’t like snakes and things that make me jump. Yes, there is a snake in Beetlejuice, but even that is funny in its own way. To me, Beetlejuice is a comedy with a quirky, spooky atmosphere. Just because a movie has a Halloween feel doesn’t mean it has to be a horror movie.
If you’ve never seen Beetlejuice, I think it’s worth giving it a chance. Families should always consider a movie’s content and whether it’s appropriate for their own children, but this one was a fun classic for our family. It’s a movie we watch a couple times a year and we’ve even used Beetlejuice as part of our Halloween decorations at times just like The Little Shop of Horrors.
The theater we visited was:
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema – Denton
3220 Town Center Tr
Denton, TX 76201
If you haven’t had the opportunity to visit Denton you can visit the official Alamo Drafthouse Denton website for movies, showtimes, directions, and theater information here and remember you can have dinner her or there is resturants right outside the Theater and even Hotels if you wanted to do a Stay-cation which I would like to do from David and Charlie one night.
I was pleasantly surprised by some of the things we saw when we walked in. There was a Spider-Man banner, and I loved seeing a skeleton sitting in an old-fashioned lawn chair. Those little touches made the place fun before the movie even started. Being able to see what movies will be coming soon like Flywheel and Sense and Sensibility was fun.
There was a button we pushed when we arrived, but we did have to wait quite a while for someone to come help us. There was also some confusion about our tickets. Thankfully, the manager, whose name I believe was Zach, went above and beyond to help us get everything sorted out. I appreciated his effort, especially when things weren’t going as smoothly as we expected.
I also discovered that the restaurant was closed when we visited, which surprised me. However, guests could still order food to enjoy in the theater, and some of the food being delivered around us smelled absolutely amazing! By the time we left I was starving.
The Denton location offers recliner seating and food and drink service directly to your seat, making it a place where you can enjoy dinner and a movie without having to leave the auditorium. Check the theater’s current menu and hours before your visit. Overall, we had a fun experience, and the staff member who helped us made a difference when we needed assistance.
One thing I want to look into more is the Alamo Drafthouse Season Pass with Christmas, and mine and Charlie’s Birthday this would be a fun Gift for my family and I could add it to David and Charlie’s Stocking with a Gift Card for snacks and this is why you will find Alamo Drafthouse inside our Christmas Gift Guide/ Wish List.
If you love going to the movies regularly, a movie membership may be worth considering. Alamo offers Season Pass plans, with plan details and restrictions that you should review before signing up. Depending on the plan, it may make seeing movies throughout the year more affordable than purchasing individual tickets every time.
For our family, there are already several movies we’d like to see. including Avengers: Doomsday, more Godzilla movies, and other upcoming releases. I also want to see Sense and Sensibility. And I absolutely want to see Flywheel 2! I believe it’s coming out this week, so I’m keeping an eye on the Alamo Drafthouse Dallas–Fort Worth movie listings to check its release information and showtimes.
Because movie schedules and membership terms can change, be sure to check the official listings and current Season Pass details before planning your visit. Another feature I like is we can order our tickets online and not have to wait in line at the Theater. If the boys was little still I would feel comfortable watching a movie and letting them see a different movie on there own.
Now, here is one thing I wanted to let you know. Denton is a bit of a drive for us from the Fort Worth area, so I would want to make the trip worthwhile. Fortunately, there are restaurants and shopping options around the theater, which makes it possible to plan an entire outing instead of driving up just to watch a movie. We could have dinner before the show, enjoy the movie, and make an evening of it.
With my birthday coming up on November 4 and Charlie’s birthday on December 16, I’m already thinking about fun ways to celebrate. What if we planned a birthday outing around a movie everyone wanted to see? Or we could host a Birthday Party here because they do this. I wouldn’t have to worry about putting together a big party at home, we could invite family or friends to meet us for dinner and a movie. We could dress up, take pictures, enjoy a favorite film, and make a whole evening of it.
A movie outing could be a fun birthday idea for Charlie, especially if we chose something he really wanted to see. And I wouldn’t mind celebrating my birthday with a movie and dinner, either! If you’re considering a birthday party at Alamo Drafthouse, contact the Denton location directly to ask about group bookings, private screenings, or other available arrangements. I haven’t confirmed what birthday-party packages they currently offer, but it’s an idea worth exploring.
Sometimes the best celebrations aren’t the biggest or most expensive ones. Sometimes they’re the ones where everybody gets together, enjoys something they love, and leaves with happy memories. It’s also doing something new and unique for our Birthdays and having a Birthday Party here we would be able to do that.
After our Beetlejuice adventure, we already have a list of movies we’d like to see together.
- Avengers: Doomsday
- More Godzilla movies, including Godzilla Minus Zero and Godzilla vs. Megalon
- Sense and Sensibility
- Flywheel 2, which I want to see as soon as I can confirm its release and showtimes
We may not agree on every movie, but that’s part of having a family. Everybody has different favorites, and finding something we can enjoy together is half the fun. Last night’s trip to Denton reminded me why I love finding opportunities to do things with my family.
Yes, we received the tickets in exchange for this review, and I’m grateful we had the chance to see Beetlejuice together. But what I’ll remember most is Charlie’s excitement when the movie ended, Bradley enjoying the show, David being there with us, and all of us getting dressed up and taking pictures without a fuss.
I’ll remember singing “Day-O” and laughing at a movie that David and I enjoyed years ago, now getting to share it with our son. I’ll remember that grin on Charlie’s face. And I’ll remember how proud I felt standing there with my family. That’s what these experiences are all about for me.They give us something to look forward to, something to talk about afterward, and memories we can keep long after the movie has ended.
So, if you’re looking for a movie outing in the Denton area, take a look at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Denton, check what’s playing, and consider making a whole evening of it with dinner and a movie. And if Beetlejuice is one of your old favorites, you might just find yourself singing “Day-O” on the way home!
Because here at Greatful Moments, we’re always looking for reasons to celebrate the little things, spend time with the people we love, and make memories along the way. Last night I was able to do that and for that I am Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed for Alma Drafthouse in Denton.
Grateful. Thankful. Blessed.
