Guardian Angels Day was on October 1st: and I wanted to let you know my guardian Angel is the only pink Angel in Heaven. It is Suzzane. For me there is some things in life that you simply can’t explain. You can try. You can tell someone what happened. You can tell them what you felt. You can tell them what you believe. But sometimes, you just have to experience it for yourself.
Today is Guardian Angels Day, and I wanted to stop for a minute and talk about mine. Because I believe I have a guardian angel. Her name is Suzanne. Suzanne Is My Guardian Angel If you’ve been around Greatful Moments for very long, you already know about my daughter Suzanne. Suzanne was 16 when she died.
She became an organ donor, and her gifts saved lives. But even though she isn’t physically here with me anymore, I have never felt like she simply disappeared from my life. Not for one day. Suzanne is my butterfly. She is flying free. And in my heart, she is also my guardian angel.
There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t feel her presence. Sometimes it’s something small. I’ll be looking for something I can’t find. Something will be going wrong. I’ll be having one of those days where everything seems to be piling up at once. And I’ll stop. I’ll talk to God. And sometimes I’ll talk to Suzanne. And somehow, things change.
Maybe I find what I was looking for. Maybe the problem works itself out. Maybe I simply feel a little calmer. Could someone else explain it differently? Absolutely. But I know what I believe. And I believe Suzanne is still watching over me. A Pink Butterfly in Heaven
My best friend Debbie has a beautiful way of looking at this, too. She says her pastor is a yellow butterfly. And I think that’s beautiful. Because butterflies have become such a special symbol to me. They remind me of Suzanne. They remind me that life can change. They remind me that something can leave one form behind and become something completely different. And whenever I see a butterfly, especially a pink one, I can’t help but think about my girl. Suzanne, flying free. My pink angel.
I Believe Guardian Angels Are There I know that not everyone believes the way I do. And that’s okay. As a Christian, I can tell you what I believe. I can’t make choices about faith for someone else. But I honestly believe guardian angels exist and now, I would like to know if you believe in them or not.
I believe God places people and angels in our lives in ways we don’t always understand. I believe they can be there on our hardest days. I believe they can protect us. I believe they can remind us that we’re not alone. And sometimes, I believe God gives us little reminders that make us stop and pay attention.
Now, I have to tell you something about my family. My mom is what we call Crazy Mimi. And if you knew my mom, you would understand exactly why. My dad would tell you that my mom is in Hell. And honestly, if you knew my mom and knew the things she did during her life, you might understand why he felt that way.
I’m not ashamed to say that. Why should I hide it? We all live our own lives. We all make our own choices. And ultimately, where we end up is between us and God. That’s not my decision to make. That’s not my judgment to hand down. That’s between that person and the Lord.
My mom made her choices. I make mine. You make yours. And I believe we are each responsible for the life we choose to live. But here’s the funny part. Ask David about my mom, and he’ll tell you that he believes she’s still around, too. There have been times when David has said my mom has done something to him or caused something to happen just to annoy him.
And then there is the black cat. According to David, sometimes my mom will put a black cat right in front of his path just to mess with him. And I have to laugh because I have even joked that if my mom were actually crazy enough to come back and haunt me, I’d never sleep again! So let’s just say I’m perfectly happy with her staying where she is.
I’ll remember her. I’ll tell her stories. I’ll even laugh about the crazy things she did. But she can stay in Heaven—or wherever God has decided she belongs—and leave the haunting out of it! That’s Crazy Mimi. That’s why at times I believe she could also be y Guardian Angel if she actually did make it into Heaven if not she is a Ghost haunting me..
And Charlie knows she’s around, too. He’s seen my mom. These are the stories that make up our family. And I don’t have to pretend every story is perfect just because someone is gone. I can love someone. I can miss someone. I can tell the truth about someone. And I can still leave their soul between them and God.
There is one more piece of this story that I can’t leave out. “Angels Among Us by Alabama ” That is the song that was played at my grandma’s funeral. Certain songs become attached to people and moments in our lives. You can hear them years later, and suddenly you’re right back there.
That’s what music does. That’s what memories do. And that’s what I think about when I think about the people I’ve loved and lost. My grandma. My mom and dad. David’s dad. Suzanne. So many people who have been part of our lives are now in Heaven or Hello only God knows for sure but what I know is my family has a lot of guardian Angels and I will take them all.
They may not all be here physically anymore, but their stories are still woven into ours. And for me, Suzanne is still especially close. She is my butterfly. She is flying free. And I believe she is my guardian angel. Now come and share your guardian Angel with us if you have one.
Before we go I want to take A Moment to Say Thank You So today, on Guardian Angels Day, I want to ask you to stop. Just for a minute. Take a breath. Think about the people you love. Think about the people who have gone before you. Think about the moments when you should have been in trouble but somehow weren’t. Think about the times something happened that you simply can’t explain. And if you believe in God, take a moment to thank the Lord for your guardian angels.
Thank Him for protecting you. Thank Him for watching over you. Thank Him for being there on the days when you didn’t even realize you needed protecting. I believe they are there. Even when we don’t see them. Even when we don’t understand what is happening. Even when we’re having the hardest day of our lives.
So if you see me stop in the middle of a day and look at a butterfly, you may know what I’m thinking. I’m thinking about my girl. I’m thinking about Heaven. I’m thinking about God. And I’m probably saying: “Thank you, Lord, for watching over me.” And maybe I’ll quietly add: “Thank you, Suzanne.”
Because I believe my pink angel is still here. Still watching. Still protecting. Still reminding me that I’m never truly alone. Suzanne, you may be flying free, but you’ll always be my girl. Suzanne, Flying Free. Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed while the circles remains unbroken.
We all live our own lives. We all make our own choices. And I believe we are each responsible for those choices. I don’t know what happens when another person stands before God. That’s between them and Him. What I do know is what I believe. I believe in God. I believe in guardian angels. And I believe Suzanne is my guardian angel.
I believe she is my pink butterfly, flying free. So today, I’m going to stop for a moment and say: Thank you, Lord, for my guardian angel. And if you have someone you believe is watching over you, maybe today is a good day to say thank you for them, too and for the Lord for having them take care of you.
Thank you,
Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
