One thing I enjoy doing each week is checking out what #Holiday is happening and how they touch my friends and family. As we all know none of my family went to college.

But that doesn’t mean I didn’t want to celebrate National College Colors Day because it is one of those days that reminds me that you don’t actually have to go to college—or even be a big sports fan—to have a favorite team.

Sometimes, a team becomes special because of the people we love.

For me, that team is OU. Not because I went to the University of Oklahoma. Not, because David went there or even Charlie. Nor is it because I’m a huge sports fan. And not because David, Charlie, or I are the kind of people who plan our weekends around football like our friends and family do.

It’s because of Suzanne. Suzanne dreamed of going to Oklahoma State University and being an OU Sooner. Unfortunately, the Lord called her home before she ever had the chance to see that dream become a reality.

But that doesn’t mean her dream disappeared. If you walk through my house, you’ll see OU memorabilia here and there. You’ll find an OU sign. You’ll find an OU cup. You’ll find little reminders of the team that Suzanne loved and dreamed about.

And my sister has even purchased T-shirts for Suzanne. Those things may look like simple college memorabilia to someone else, but to me, they’re little pieces of Suzanne that we get to keep around us.

And there’s another reason OU has become special to me. My best friend’s husband, Curtis, is also partial to OU. Curtis was there for Suzanne’s funeral, and because of the connection between Curtis and Suzanne, you already know I’m going to celebrate anything and everything OU when it comes to the two of them.

So yes, if you ask me today what team I’m partial to, I’m probably going to say OU. But here’s where I want to hear from you. If You Could Pick a Team, Who Would You Pick?

Maybe you went to college and already have a favorite team. Maybe your parents or grandparents passed their favorite team down to you. Maybe your spouse loves one team and you’ve somehow ended up cheering along with them.

Or maybe you’ve never cared about college sports at all. That’s okay! If you were going to pick a team today, what team would you choose—and why? What colors would you wear?

For today, I’m not going to take you on a tour of my house to show you all of Suzanne’s OU treasures. We’ll save that for another day. Instead, I’ve got something you can do with your children.

Print the coloring sheet below and let everyone choose a favorite team—or create their very own team. They can color the uniforms, pick their team colors, and even make up a team name if they want.

You don’t have to be a college student. You don’t have to play sports. You don’t even have to be a sports fan. Sometimes it’s simply fun to pick a color, pick a team, and have a little fun together.

And for me, celebrating OU today is also a small way of celebrating Suzanne and remembering the dreams she carried with her. So, who would you pick? I’d love for you to come share your team with me.
