Before David and I got together he used to bake from scratch all the time. He doesn’t do this anymore and we’ve never been parents who make Cookies or desserts for Christmas and now Charlie is grown.
Getting Charlie into the kitchen to do anything is harder than pulling a tooth. But now that Christmas is coming, and we’re continuing our Interactive Christmas Gift Guide I knew I wanted to start baking this year.
As I was deciding what I wanted to make I decided to find a recipe kids of all ages can have fun creating: Christmas fruit roll-ups! Which as you know we’ve done for other #Holidays and #Seasons.
That’s what makes this activity so much fun. We’re not just making the same old fruit roll-up and calling it Christmas. We’re going to make them Christmas inspired.
For Christmas, I’m thinking about making an apple-pie fruit roll-up. I love the idea of those warm apple-pie flavors rolled into something fun for the holidays.
But here’s the thing: that’s what I would make. What would you make? Maybe you’d make a pumpkin fruit roll-up. Maybe you’d choose blueberry, strawberry, cranberry, apple cinnamon, or another flavor you love.
And it doesn’t even have to be fruit! When I say the sky’s the limit, I mean it. I could see David throwing some meat together and making a meat fruit roll-up.
And knowing Charlie, he might follow right along with his dad because he’s not exactly a fruit lover. Although, knowing Charlie, he might surprise me and make a strawberry jelly or jam fruit roll-up.
With that boy, you just never know! That’s exactly what I want kids to think about when they do this activity: What would YOU make? Because you can use anything your heart desires.
Here’s where I think this activity gets even more fun. Don’t make a traditional fruit roll-up. Make a Christmas fruit roll-up! Instead of leaving it as one long sheet and simply rolling it up, think about the shapes you could make.
What if your Christmas fruit roll-up looked like:
🎅 Santa
🧝 An elf
🎄 A Christmas tree
🎩 A Santa hat
⛄ A snowman
⭐ A star
🧦 A Christmas stocking
🎁 A present

I haven’t purchased these particular cookie cutters. I’m sharing them because they’re a fun way to help turn your homemade roll-ups into something that looks like Christmas.
And you don’t have to use the shapes I’ve listed. If your child comes up with something completely different, that’s even better! Because we want these to be unique.
Maybe an apple-pie roll-up becomes Christmas trees. Maybe strawberry becomes Santa hats. Maybe blueberry becomes stars. Maybe someone decides a savory roll-up needs to be shaped like a Christmas stocking. It’s their creation. Remember adults can make there own.
This is a kid-friendly recipe and a great opportunity to let children participate in the kitchen. If your #Homeschooling your children this can be used as a lesson in cooking.
Depending on their age, kids can help choose the flavor, measure ingredients, mix the ingredients, spread the mixture, and decide which Christmas shapes they want to make.
Of course, an adult should handle any part of the recipe involving heat, sharp utensils, ovens, dehydrators, or other equipment that isn’t appropriate for the child’s age.
The important thing isn’t making a perfect roll-up. It’s giving kids an opportunity to create something themselves. They get to make decisions. They get to experiment. And they get to see that a recipe doesn’t always have to be followed exactly the way someone else made it.
And once you’ve made your Christmas fruit roll-ups? Make some for your friends and family! Wouldn’t it be fun to put together a little assortment of Christmas shapes and let everyone choose their favorite?
You might have Santa, Christmas trees, stars, snowmen, and something completely unexpected sitting on the same plate. Then ask everyone: “What would you make?”
You could even turn it into a family challenge and see who can come up with the most creative combination of flavor and shape. Because your Christmas fruit roll-up doesn’t have to look like mine. And mine doesn’t have to look like yours. That’s what makes this activity so much fun.

We have a Crossword Puzzle for you. 4. Read for 10 Minutes– Pick a book and read for at least 10 minutes.
And because we’re using our reading challenge throughout the Christmas season, you can continue earning tickets by reading.
How the Tickets Add Up
Complete the four activities in the guide: 4 activities = 4 tickets Read for 10 minutes four times: 4 reading sessions = 4 more tickets
Now you’re at: 8 tickets!
And if you complete all eight activities, you earn: 2 BONUS TICKETS!
That means you can earn 10 Christmas tickets by completing the entire challenge.
What you do with those tickets is up to your family. Maybe they’re used toward a special Christmas activity, a privilege, a family reward, or something else you’ve already planned. The tickets simply give kids another reason to read, create, participate, and have fun together.
What Would YOU Make? That’s really what I want families to take away from this activity. Don’t worry about making your Christmas fruit roll-up exactly like someone else’s.
Think about what you would make. Would you make apple pie? Strawberry? Blueberry? Pumpkin? Cranberry? Something savory? Would you make Santa? An elf? A Christmas tree? A stocking? Or something nobody else has thought of?
There is no single right answer. The fun is in creating your own. And once you’ve figured it out, make a few for the people you love and show them what you can do.
Then ask them the same question: “What would YOU make?” Because sometimes the best family memories come from giving everyone the freedom to make something a little bit different.
And who knows? Maybe David really will make that meat fruit roll-up. And maybe Charlie will surprise us all with strawberry. That’s the beauty of letting everyone create their own. The sky’s the limit!
