Welcome back to our Interactive Fall Gift Guide! I hope September is treating you well. Before we begin our day I wanted to share a share another post which is part of our Interactive Falll Gift Gide.
Today were bringing your family a recipe that would make a wonderful breakfast, snack, or even dessert for a busy fall day. If your #Homeschooling your children this snack could be part of a cooking class for them.
Now, I have something fun to share with you about this recipe which makes it interactive for families each child gets to be part of creating there own dessert from start to finish. Adults you can make your own as well.
For my family, I love finding ways to take something simple and turn it into something we can enjoy together. This fall fruit roll-up is one of those activities. You can start with our simple apple version, or let everyone get creative and design a fruit roll-up of their very own.
Today, your child has the opportunity to earn two tickets for our Interactive Fall Guide. If they make the fall fruit roll-up: They will earn 1 ticket for making the activity. If they read for 10 minutes they earn a second ticket.
Those tickets can go into your family’s ticket jar and be saved throughout Fall toward the special prize you have chosen. So today we’re combining cooking, creativity and reading into one fun fall activity.
And here’s where our Interactive Guides get even more fun! If you complete the Interactive Fall Gift Guide, Interactive Halloween Gift Guide, and Interactive Christmas Gift Guide activities, you can earn three tickets โ one for completing each guide.
Then, if you read for at least 10 minutes for each guide, you can earn another three tickets. That gives you six tickets already! But we’re not stopping there. We also have two bonus tickets to earn, giving you even more opportunities to fill your ticket jar.
So when you complete everything that’s part of the challenge, you can earn up to 10 tickets in one day! That’s a pretty exciting way to build up your ticket jar, especially when those tickets are being saved toward a special prize at the end of each challenge. Giving you a chance for three prizes.
And remember, you don’t have to do everything at once. The idea is to have fun, participate, read, create and enjoy the season together. Every ticket you earn brings you one step closer to that end-of-year surprise!
Today we will begin with a simple apple fruit roll-up, but here’s where the fun begins: your roll-up doesn’t have to be exactly like ours. You can choose your own fruit and decide what other ingredients you would like to add.
You might choose:
- Apples
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Bananas
- Peaches
- Grapes
- Or another fruit you love
Then decide what kind of roll-up you want to create. Maybe yours will be sweet with jelly, peanut butter, honey, whipped cream, chocolate or cinnamon. Or perhaps you want to experiment with something savory, such as chicken, vegetables, ranch, bacon, hot sauce or salsa. And that’s what makes this activity so much fun โ everyone’s creation can be different.
Before you make your roll-up, use our printable to think about your creation. What fruit will your roll-up include? What other ingredients will you add? Will your roll-up be sweet, savory, or maybe a little of both? Why did you choose those ingredients?
And don’t forget the most important question: What will you name your creation? Once you’ve made it, you can draw your finished roll-up on the printable, too. Then take a picture and come back and show us your creation.
After you’ve finished making your creation, it’s time to settle down with a good book. Read for at least 10 minutes and you’ve earned your second ticket for today’s activity. You can read a children’s book, a chapter book, a cookbook, a magazine, or another age-appropriate book your family enjoys. But remember readng can even be a box, a magazine or anything your heart desires as long as your reading.
I especially love the idea of pairing today’s cooking activity with a cookbook. You can look through the recipes together, talk about the ingredients, and see what other recipes you might want to try another day.
That’s our challenge for today. Read it.: Read for at least 10 minutes. Choose it. Choose your fruit and ingredients. Create it. Make your very own fall fruit roll-up. Taste it.
Sit down together and enjoy what you created! And don’t forget to put those tickets in your ticket jar.
I wanted to let you know one of the things I love about this activity is that it doesn’t have to stop with fall. We can change the ingredients, decorations and printable to create a Halloween fruit roll-up, a Thanksgiving fruit roll-up, or even a Christmas fruit roll-up later in the year.
The basic idea stays the same, but the theme changes with the season. That means one simple recipe can become several different family activities โ and every time you participate, you have another opportunity to earn tickets.
For my family, that’s what makes our Interactive Fall Guide more than just a list of things to do. We’re creating little moments where we can make something, learn something, read together and have fun.
So grab your printable, choose your ingredients and let’s see what kind of fall fruit roll-up you can create!
And Lord willing, we’ll keep adding more fun activities as we work our way through fall and toward the holidays.
๐ Design Your Own Fall Fruit Roll-Up ๐
September Homeschool Cooking & Creative Writing Activity
Today, we’re designing our very own fall fruit roll-up!
There is no wrong answer. Pick your ingredients and make it YOURS!
What will YOUR roll-up look like?
Something Sweet
Something Savory
Or think of something completely different!
Find a dessert cookbook, family cookbook, or another cookbook at home. Spend 30 minutes reading it. Look for recipes that use fruit, wraps, tortillas, crepes or other ingredients that could inspire your own creation.
You don’t have to copy the recipe. Sometimes reading a recipe is simply the beginning of an idea!
Read It. Choose It. Create It. Taste It!
This doesn’t have to stop with fall. For Halloween, you could make a spooky fruit roll-up. For Thanksgiving, try apples, cranberries and warm spices. At Christmas, create a red-and-green roll-up with your favorite fruit.
The possibilities are endlessโand that’s exactly what makes this activity fun!
