Our QT Morning Adventure: How We Got a Free Drink, Free Chips and More for $5.43

If you’ve been following our morning adventures, you already know that Charlie and I have developed a little routine. We get up between 6:00 and 7:00 in the morning, and one of our favorite things to do is head to QuikTrip and see what kind of deals we can find.

This morning was a little different because David was off work and decided to come along with us. So today, our QT adventure had a guest! Which was okay because he also has the QT app so double the savings. Double the fun. Buttercup.

And because we use the QT app, we weren’t just walking into the store and paying full price for everything. We checked our offers first. That is something I think more people need to know about the QT app.

The app isn’t just for finding a QT store. It can have deals, offers and coupons waiting for you, and those offers can change. You might open the app one day and find a free Coke. Another day you might have a free cookie. Another day it might be something completely different.

Only the Lord knows what you’re going to get! That’s why I think it’s worth checking the app every day if you’re someone who stops at QT regularly. Which we did and for the longest time and by that I mean years and years Charlie and David wouldn’t use the app.

It took Charlie losing his job and wanting drinks more times than I had money for that he decided we needed the app. Then he decided since most days we would be buying 2 drinks David needed the app as well.

That was a Godsend because Charlie downloaded the app down on both of our phones and now were able to get out of the house at least once a day. Allowing us to spend time together.

This morning, Charlie woke up first. Then he head me stirring and said mom are you ready. I said let me get dressed and we would go. David was home and he was still sleeping. We asked him if he wanted to go and he did.

We headed to the QT on Denton Highway in Haltom City. When we got there we was able to get the largest QT fountain drink for FREE through one of our app offers. We also had a QT tea offer that was Buy One, Get One Free. And we got a FREE bag of QT-brand chips.

David got his Ghost Monster, because of course we couldn’t have him come along on his first QT adventure without getting his drink. And after everything that applied to our $5.43 purchase was figured in, that’s what we spent.

I also had a 50-cent soda, but that isn’t included in our $5.43 total because Charlie paid for that separately. So when I’m talking about our QT savings today, I’m talking about the items that came out of our $5.43 purchase.

What Would This Have Cost Without the Offers? This is the part I really want to start doing with our QT adventures. Instead of just telling you, “We spent $5.43,” I want to show you what we would have paid if we had simply walked in and bought everything without using the offers.

We had:

Charlie’s largest fountain drink — FREE

QT-brand chips — FREE

QT teas — Buy One, Get One Free

Ghost Monster — regular purchase

Total actually paid: $5.43

The two biggest savings were immediately obvious: the fountain drink and the free bag of chips didn’t cost us anything. Then the BOGO tea offer gave us another savings because we received two teas while paying for only one.

That’s why the app matters. You’re not necessarily going to walk out of QT with everything free. That’s not what I’m saying. What I’m saying is that if you’re going to buy something anyway, why not check and see whether QT has an offer that can lower your cost?

If you’ve never really looked through the QT app, this is the part you want to remember. Open the app and look for the Offers section. That’s where you’ll find the special deals and coupons available to you.

You can also use the app to see QT locations, order ahead and use QT Pay to pay. So the app isn’t just a digital coupon book. It can be useful for the whole QT experience. Which is what my family likes.

You can see what stores are available, place an order, pay through the app and, most importantly for our morning adventures, check your current offers. And those offers aren’t necessarily going to stay the same. That’s why I recommend checking them regularly. Also watch the expiration dates which Charlie is really good at doing.

And our QT adventure didn’t end this morning. I still have several offers sitting in my app that I want to use before they disappear. I have a 49-cent drink offer that I need to remember to use.

I still have the welcome offer for the $1 pretzel, and I already know David is going to want that one. Although, my sister may snag it if David doesn’t watch out. There’s also an extra $1 off a pizza slice and Dr Pepper, which sounds like a pretty easy way to make a quick lunch.

And honestly, with the kids back in school, that could be a great little lunch idea. You don’t always have to spend a lot of money to make lunch feel special. Sometimes Mom needs a treat, too.

We’re not finished with QT yet. There’s a two-for-$3 candy offer that Charlie and David are planning to pick up later. There are also $1 two-packs of cookies, including flavors like peanut butter, white chocolate macadamia and M&M candy cookies.

I’m voting for the peanut butter and white chocolate macadamia. Then there’s the $7 extra-large pizza offer for pepperoni, sausage or cheese. Charlie is planning to pick one up for lunch after he and David finish running some errands.

And there is another deal I probably shouldn’t tell David about. There’s a $1 hot dog when you purchase two Monsters. I’m just going to keep that one between us for now. Because I already know David is going to see that offer and say, “We’re getting that!”

Just because I have one coupon you might have something different One thing I have learned from using these offers is that you can’t just save them and forget about them. Check the expiration dates. Some offers are good for several days.

Some disappear much faster. Some are there today and gone tomorrow so if you see something you want and your close to a QT I would suggest getting it. For example, I have an offer that expires tomorrow, and the Snyder’s pretzel and Smartwater offer expires September 4.

So if I need to pick up a bottle of water in the next couple of days, I’m going to use that offer and get the pretzels, too. That’s another reason I like checking the app every day. You don’t want to find a great offer after it has already expired.

Our $5.43 purchase this morning may not sound like a huge shopping trip. It wasn’t. But that’s exactly why I think these little adventures are worth sharing. We’re not pretending that we’re getting an entire grocery cart of food for free.

We’re simply looking at the offers before we buy. A free fountain drink here. A free bag of chips there. Buy one, get one free tea. A discounted drink. A $1 pretzel. A couple of dollars off lunch. Those little savings can add up, especially if QT is already part of your routine.

And if you have kids who are back in school, sometimes a $1 or $2 special can turn an ordinary afternoon into a little treat without blowing the budget. And Moms? Don’t forget yourself.

If you’re already stopping to get everyone else something, check the app and see if there’s an offer for you, too. Maybe it’s a cookie. Maybe it’s a drink. Maybe it’s lunch. Maybe it’s something completely unexpected.

Only the Lord knows what you’re going to find in that app today! So before your next QT run, take a minute. Open the app. Go to Offers. See what you’ve got. Check the expiration dates.

And then see whether you can turn a regular QT stop into a little savings adventure. That’s what Charlie and I do every morning. And now that David has joined us, I have a feeling our QT adventures are about to get even more interesting. Stay tuned for the next one.

Come back at the end of the month to see how much the T app saved us.

Grateful, Thankful, Blessed.

Thank you,

Glenda, Charlie and David Cates
