A couple days ago we had begun the preparations for our Interactive Halloween Gift Guide. Today it’s finally here! Interactive Halloween Challenge Day 1! If you joined us for our Fall Challenge, you already know what we’re doing.

And if you’re new here, don’t worry. We’re going to have a whole lot of fun together over the next 31 days. But our Halloween Challenge isn’t just about Halloween decorations, candy, costumes, or buying things. It’s about doing things together.

Every day, we’ll have something your family can do. Sometimes it will be a craft. Sometimes a game. Sometimes a recipe. Sometimes a reading activity. Sometimes a printable. Sometimes we’ll ask you to get outside.

And sometimes it may be something so simple that you wonder why you never thought of doing it before. The important part is that your child participates. But adults can as well and make sure you invite your friends and family.

How the Halloween Tickets Work

Here’s how your child earns tickets: 1 ticket for completing the day’s activity. 1 additional ticket for rating or reviewing the activity. Then they can earn a extra ticket if they read for at least 10 minutes. So each activity gives your child the opportunity to earn up to three tickets.

And those tickets go into your family’s Halloween ticket jar, basket, box, or whatever you decide to use. If you don’t have one you can see how to make a ticket jar here and then you can print out your ticket here.

At the end of our 31-day Halloween Challenge, your parents get to choose the reward. And remember: Greatful Moments isn’t providing the prize. The parents are. And remind your parents not to worry they don’t have to spend money.

The reward could be a movie night. Baking Halloween cookies together. Choosing the family dinner. Watching a favorite Halloween movie. Going for a walk to look at Halloween decorations.

Having hot chocolate or a beverage of your choice. Playing a board game. Staying up a little later. Picking the family activity. Or anything else that makes your child feel special. The whole idea is to turn those tickets into family memories.

For Day 1, we’re starting with something simple: Create Your Halloween Countdown! Have your child make a countdown for the 31 days of Halloween. They can create there own calendar or use one you have laying around the house.

They can draw pumpkins, ghosts, bats, cats, candy, leaves, monsters—or anything else they think belongs on Halloween. Number the spaces from 1 through 31. Then each day, they can cross off or decorate one number from the items they created which can be glued or taped to the calendar as they complete that day’s activity.

It’s a simple way for children to see how far they’ve come. And when they finish today’s countdown activity: They will earn 1 ticket! Then ask them to rate today’s activity. Did they enjoy making it? What was their favorite part?

Would they make another Halloween countdown? What would they change? That’s another ticket! Two tickets are waiting for them today. Unless they read for 10 minutes and get the bonus ticket. And tomorrow, we’ll do it all over again.

So grab some crayons, markers, pencils, or whatever you have around the house. You don’t need to go shopping. You don’t need fancy supplies. You just need a little imagination. Because that’s what this challenge is really about.

31 days. 31 opportunities to make memories. And maybe, by the time Halloween arrives, your family will have a jar full of tickets and a whole month full of memories. So let’s get started. Happy Halloween Challenge Day 1! Now… Who’s ready to earn their first ticket?
